CM to PCMC chief: Cancel Charholi TP scheme plan, first take people into confidence
'I direct the municipal commissioner not to stay the TP scheme proposal in Chikhli-Charholi area but to cancel it. Without taking people into confidence, we cannot carry out the development process,' the CM said during the inauguration of several civic infrastructure projects in Chikhli.
Before the CM made the announcement, Bhosari MLA Mahesh Landge spoke about how the residents of Charholi area were opposing the TP scheme. 'PCMC's plan has caused a lot of confusion among the people. It has triggered protests.'
In a social media post after the event, Landge said, 'I welcome the decision of the Chief Minister to cancel the TP scheme in Charholi area. The CM has clearly said that the scheme should not be implemented without taking the residents into confidence. This will certainly gladden the hearts of the residents of Charholi.'
Civic activist Avinash Chilekar said, 'Since the PCMC declared its intention to implement the TP scheme in Charholi area, residents have been up in arms. They recently even organised a bandh. The TP scheme was meant for 3,500 acres of land in Charholi. It meant that farmers were going to lose their land big way. For instance, if a farmer had 10 acres of land, PCMC would have taken over 5 acres and on the remaining five acres, it would have set up public amenities. The land owner would be given TDR or transfer of development rights. The farmers said instead of giving land to PCMC, if they themselves implement a project it would benefit them more. And, therefore, the farmers were angry with the PCMC,' he said.

At the cabinet sub-committee meeting on infrastructure, Fadnavis said it was decided that the govt will purchase 268 AC trains for the Mumbai suburban railway network under MUTP 3 and 3A. "The non-AC trains without doors will be replaced in phases by these AC trains," said Fadnavis, adding that the new AC train services will be provided without increasing fares. A 25-km elevated road will be constructed from Thane to the Navi Mumbai international airport. The committee also approved the 16km underground Metro Line 11 from Wadala Depot to Gateway of India. The Rs 24,000 crore project will be financed by JICA. A proposal for the commercial development of BEST bus depots was also approved. The govt has proposed the development of Bandra and Dindoshi bus depots.

CM unveils emblem for Ganeshotsav; to be celebrated as ‘Rajya Mahotsav' from this year
The emblem for Ganeshotsav, which will be celebrated as 'Rajya Mahotsav' from this year onwards, was unveiled on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis in the presence of deputy chief ministers and other ministers. A fund of nearly Rs 11 crore has been allocated for a series of diverse cultural programmes including competitions, illuminations, lectures and folk-art performances as part of the celebrations. This year, through the direct participation of the state government, Ganeshotsav will be showcased on national and international platforms, said Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar. 'Maharashtra is a land enriched with art, culture and tradition. It carries the profound legacy of saints, reformers, great leaders, warriors, devotion, spirituality and inclusivity. This sacred soil of the Deccan, sanctified by the footsteps of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is steeped in intellectual vibrancy, while the foundation of the state's socio-economic and cultural progress has been laid through social unity,' the minister said. Shelar said, 'Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav has played a vital role in fostering this harmony. The centuries-old tradition of household and Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav have remained the very soul of Maharashtra's cultural and social fabric.' 'Keeping the social context and tradition this year, two themes – 'Operation Sindoor', a tribute to the valour of the Indian Army and 'Swadeshi Jagar', a call for building a self-reliant and Atmanirbhar Bharat, have been woven into the celebrations of Ganeshotsav, which has now been accorded the status of 'Rajya Mahotsav',' the minister said.

A cartoonist from Indore booked for depicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in a purportedly undignified manner told the Supreme Court that he would publish an apology on social media. The court was hearing a petition filed by the cartoonist Hemant Malviya, seeking anticipatory bail in the case registered against him in Madhya Pradesh. The bench said that Malviya should publish the apology within 10 days and extended the interim protection from arrest granted to him till the next hearing. On July 15, the court had granted the cartoonist interim protection from arrest but cautioned that if he continued to share posts on social media of works deemed to be offensive, the Madhya Pradesh government would be free to take action against him. The order had come after Malviya submitted an apology for his social media post. A day earlier, the cartoonist had agreed to delete the post after being criticised by the court.
