NFL Most Valuable Player: Complete list of winners by year
While the NFL dates its history back to 1920, its MVP award has been around since 1938. The Associated Press started giving out the award in 1957, and Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is the most recent winner of the prestigious award, being crowned the league's best player at the 2025 NFL Honors on Thursday night.

Since he has always relied a lot on his athleticism and physicality to score, some have accused him of not having "a bag" as far as offensive skill sets he can rely on. His mid-range game has gone largely unrefined and undeveloped, and although he's capable of shooting a fairly effective fadeaway jumper out of the post, he doesn't go to that move on a consistent basis. James responded to that criticism on a recent episode of the "Mind the Game" podcast, which he co-hosts with Hall of Famer Steve Nash. Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo also had his own response to that criticism of James. In some ways, Antetokounmpo's game resembles that of a young James, minus the brute force but with more length and longer strides. He, as James still is, is a terror on the fast break, and he is one of the NBA's very best players when it comes to attacking the paint and finishing near the rim. The two-time MVP averaged 30.4 points, 11.9 rebounds and 6.5 assists a game while shooting 60.1% from the field this season. With the Bucks' supporting cast aging and thinning out and fellow All-Star Damian Lillard expected to miss most, if not all, of next season with a torn Achilles, many expect Antetokounmpo to ask to be traded this summer.
