Desi 'uncles' turn metro into a retro karaoke lounge, viral video divides internet
The metro train is once again at the centre of attention after a viral video surfaced, showing a group of elderly men casually transforming a coach into a karaoke lounge. The now-viral clip, shared on Reddit, captures the men—fondly referred to by netizens as 'uncles'—joyfully singing the timeless romantic classic 'Pyar Hua Ikrar Hua' from the 1955 Bollywood film Shree 420. According to the post, the sing-along session took place on the Yellow Line of the Delhi Metro on 22nd April 2025, although HT.com could not independently verify the location or timing of the video.

What made the moment particularly captivating was the presence of a microphone, which added a full karaoke vibe to the otherwise routine metro ride.

The footage was uploaded by a Reddit user with the handle 'Upstairs-Bit6897' and has since gathered significant traction.
Reddit users flocked to the comments section to share their varied reactions. One user wrote, 'Delhi Metro never disappoints. From dance shows to this karaoke session – we've seen it all now!' Another remarked, 'Uncles living their best life. Honestly, this made my day.' A third comment read, 'What a throwback! They've got great taste in music, I'll give them that.'
However, not everyone was equally amused. 'This is sweet and all, but it can get annoying if you're trying to commute in peace,' one user pointed out. Another added, 'Public transport is not a concert hall. What if someone else wants silence?'

Miti Adhikari: Kolkata boy who engineered the sound of rock gods
Mumbai : Miti Adhikari, a producer and sound engineer who worked with the British Broadcasting Corporation for over three decades, recording and mixing original tracks with everyone from Bruce Springsteen to Beyonce that would then be broadcast on television and the radio, died on Sunday. He was 69. Adhikari –– who gained the moniker Silver Fox –– turned his attention to the Indian indie scene in the late 2000s, when he worked on the songs of his cousin Neel Adhikari's band, Class Apart. The duo even had an outfit called MANA (formed using their initials). Adhikari worked on albums for The Supersonics, Menwhopause, Cassini's Division, Agnee and Bengali rock band, Jack Rabbit, shuttling between the UK and India. 'I don't understand the Bollywood scene much, but I love the underground scene. I've brought a travelling studio down here and I want to work with the bands to help in the evolution of the scene. At some stage, I want these bands to match their international counterparts,' he told the Hindustan Times in 2010 interview. Adhikari grew up in Kolkata, took his first guitar lessons with legendary blues artist Gussy Rikh, played the bass guitar and sang lead vocals in a rock band called Mahamaya. In 1977, at the age of 20, he went to London and after trying for months, was finally selected to join the BBC as a trainee sound engineer. The BBC would call bands to its famed Maida Vale studios for exclusive sessions, where they would record four songs in 12 hours. Adhikari's job, as he told HT in 2010, was to be 'a fresh pair of ears in the studio environment, who would give them a direction'. Adhikari recorded and mixed the song the same week after which it received extensive airtime. Bands often asked him to produce other songs for their albums. His repertoire included rock and indie legends including Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Arcade Fire, and the Foo Fighters. He also lent his expertise at the Glastonbury, T in the Park, and Reading and Leeds music festivals. Adhikari, who was based in Goa, is survived by his wife, Sam Adhikari, and his cousin Neel, among other family members.

Goan bands hit the right note on Mangaluru stage
Mangaluru: There's a new rhythm setting the pace for celebrations in Mangaluru, and it hails directly from Goa. The coastal city's event circuit, from charity galas to ticketed parties and family functions, is increasingly showing a strong preference for Goan bands. The city's stages have seen almost all the top bands of Goa performing live over the years. A few notable names include A26, Black IN White Band, True Blue, Double R, Mark Revlon, Raagas2Riches, Uzo Band and others. Organisers and attendees of these events laud their energetic performances, passion for music and singing, and diverse repertoire, which often resonate deeply with the region's shared Konkani Catholic heritage. This trend sees many Goan groups performing regularly in Mangaluru. However, a stark contrast exists as very few Mangalurean bands secure similar gigs in Goa. Mark Fernandes of Stonebridge Entertainment, one of the event organisers who set the trend of inviting Goan bands in 2019, attributes their success to the quality of song selection, command over playlists, and quality of voice, which is as good as the original. "They don't just play one music genre, but all. Secondly, they also have a good command over Bollywood cover numbers, singing live, which not all bands can do. In total, Goan bands can capture the audience of Mangaluru and perform according to their taste," said Fernandes, adding that close to 20-25 bands from Goa are eagerly waiting to perform in Mangaluru. "They (Goan bands) perform in Mangaluru as it gives them a new platform to get recognised for their talents in the state," he said. Mark also added that earlier, bands originating from Mangaluru did not have many bookings outside the district, but of late, a few bands are able to touch the stages of Goa too. It is a positive sign, and some also perform in clubs in Bengaluru. Besides performing in ticketed events or charity galas, the Goan bands are also able to make inroads into private functions of individuals, be it roce, weddings, or other small events such as birthdays and anniversaries. Those who attend these events summarise that these bands are high in energy and dance-oriented. "Bands are well known for their high-energy performances and make everyone, be it young or old, shake a leg or two," says Laxmi Shenoy, an event organiser as well as a partygoer.
