Addressing the media in Nagpur, Fadnavis said Pawar's remarks, made on Saturday, raised serious questions about political ethics and transparency. "You are responsible citizens. If someone approaches you saying they can influence elections, why did you not file a complaint with the police or the Election Commission? Or did you use their services and are now speaking up?" he asked.
Pawar claimed that the mysterious duo first met him in Delhi and later he arranged a meeting with Rahul Gandhi.
Both leaders, according to Pawar, declined the offer as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) wanted to contest "fairly." Dismissing this explanation, Fadnavis alleged, "It is shocking that such elements are being introduced to each other. If someone is conspiring, someone is saying they will commit fraud, your duty is to file a complaint.
This is not just casual talk — it is about the credibility of our democracy."
The CM further said that the incident could not be brushed aside as political gossip.

"The Election Commission has repeatedly thrown open a challenge to political parties, engineers and technocrats to try and hack EVMs, but no one has succeeded. If you believe there is fraud, take your evidence there. Instead, we hear these Salim-Javed style stories," he remarked, referring to Rahul Gandhi's earlier statements.
Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the opposition is making these claims is a case of "sour grapes".
"I want to challenge the opposition to find mistakes with the voter list now that local body polls are round the corner. They should go through the voter list now and come forward with any issues. But I know that the opposition will keep quiet now and then after results they will start complaining, blaming the voters list," Bawankule said.
On the Mandal Yatra launched by NCP (Sharad Pawar), Fadnavis accused the party of using OBC issues only for political gain.
"Three decades later, they suddenly remember OBCs. The reality is that for years, they denied benefits to the community and played double games on OBC reservation. Now, after the electoral setback, they want to reclaim lost ground by such yatras. But these will not yield results," he said.
Fadnavis also alleged that whenever OBC reservation was under threat, Pawar's camp failed to take a clear stand. "The OBC community has seen through this.
They know who stood firmly with them and who only gave speeches," he said.
Reiterating that the BJP remained committed to OBC welfare, Fadnavis said, "Maharashtra's voters have given us a clear mandate. Spreading baseless stories and casting aspersions on that mandate is an insult to the people."
Bawankule agreed saying Pawar failed to help OBCs during his days in power. "For almost six decades he has been in active politics. In this time Pawar has held cabinet posts, been CM and a Union minister. But never did he remember OBCs then. The real justice to OBCs was given by BJP," said Bawankule.

‘If you win, all is good, if you lose, all is bad': BJP ministers accuse Rahul Gandhi, INDIA bloc of ‘shaming democracy'
Even as both Houses of Parliament were disrupted again Monday over the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar, the BJP took on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and his INDIA bloc allies, accusing them of 'shaming not just the nation but democracy'. BJP leaders said that by questioning Constitutional institutions and their processes, the Opposition is seeking to 'trigger anarchy' to 'destablise the nation'. Union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Dharmendra Pradhan accused the Opposition, and especially Gandhi, of 'speaking the language of anti-national' forces aiming to 'uproot democracy' from the country. Gandhi's 'vote-theft' allegations and continuing protests over the SIR lack direction and that his politics is not 'issue and policy-based', they said. The Delhi Police detained Opposition MPs, including Gandhi, Monday as they took out a march from Parliament House to the Election Commission of India (ECI) headquarters to protest against the Bihar SIR. Union Agriculture Minister Chouhan alleged that Rahul Gandhi and the Opposition are defaming democracy 'under pressure from anti-national forces'. 'First, they shamed the country, the Election Commission, and even the Supreme Court. They shamed the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG), played with respect for the armed forces. Did the DMK…win in Tamil Nadu due to issues in the voter list? In Jharkhand, has the Hemant Soren-led INDI alliance government been formed due to issues with the voter list?' he asked. 'The SIR is not happening for the first time; in every state, at the national level, the EC has a rule-based process – the purification of the electoral rolls…After Independence, it has had a continuous process (in this regard). Earlier, the Congress used to tell lies on the EVM; sometimes they rake up Maharashtra, sometimes Haryana, to make a new mountain of lies. (Due to poll losses) in 2014, 2019 and 2024 especially, the Congress has reached a level of bankruptcy due to continuous losses,' Pradhan alleged. 'There is no clear issue they have in hand, or a policy…(so) they are making a political issue out of this…(they) lied about Rafale jet planes, then they helped China by raising questions related to India's sovereignty regarding which the judiciary, for the first time in Independent India, made such harsh remarks about a politician…They do not have any public honour left in a democracy. With anarchy slowly combining with arrogance, this is a deliberate strategy to trigger destabilisation in the country. You will win elections, then everything is fine. Accusing Gandhi of having 'no basic knowledge about technology, the Election Commission's procedure or the country', Pradhan alleged that the Congress and the Opposition were left with only 'votebank politics' and wanted to 'get by on the votes of infiltrators whom they have made voters'. 'When the Election Commission, from a Constitutional and impartial point of view, tells them the facts, they talk about destroying the Election Commission :'we will drop an atom bomb and the Election Commission will disintegrate'. This is the language used by our rival nations. Big powers which want to uproot democracy from a democratic Bharat, they use the language that the Leader of Opposition of the country does,' he alleged. But after two MPs participated in the consideration debate, speaking in the bill's support, the opposition members returned to the house and started raising slogans. Amid the din, the bills were passed by a voice vote following which the House was adjourned till 4pm. Earlier, Chairman of the parliamentary committee on sports, Digvijaya Singh, requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to refer the National Sports Governance Bill to the panel. He felt that the bill should be examined and discussed before it is taken up by Parliament Mandaviya said the two bills were key reforms aimed at building a "transparent, accountable and world-class sports ecosystem" in India as the country aims to bid for the 2036 Olympics. "Efforts have been made since 1975 and in 1985, we had the first draft. But sports was also politicised for personal gains. Some ministers made efforts to bring this bill but could not move forward. "In 2011, we had a National Sports Code. Another effort was made to turn it into a bill. It reached the cabinet, there was a discussion as well but the bill was deferred after that. It did not reach the Parliament," the minister stated while presenting a timeline of the bill's journey. "The National Sports Bill Governance Bill is a force of being such a large country, our performance at the Olympic Games and on the international stage has not been satisfactory and this Bill aims to build India's sports capacity," he added. The sports governance bill has provisions for a National Sports Board (NSB) to create a stringent system of accountability. All National Sports Federations (NSFs) will have to attain NSB's recognition for access to central government funding. The NSB will have the mandate to de-recognise a national body that fails to hold elections for its Executive Committee or has committed "gross irregularities in the election procedures." F ailure to publish annual audited accounts or "misused, misapplied or misappropriated public funds" would also be liable for action by the NSB but it would be required to consult the concerned global body before making its move. Another feature is the proposal for a National Sports Tribunal, which will have the powers of a civil court and decide disputes ranging from selection to election involving federations and athletes. Once instituted, Tribunal's decisions can only be challenged in the Supreme Court. The bill makes some concessions on the issue of age cap for administrators by allowing those in the bracket of 70 to 75 to contest elections if the concerned international bodies' statutes and bylaws allow for it. It is a departure from the national sports code that capped the age limit at 70. "...as a part of the preparatory activities for the bidding of Summer Olympic Games 2036, it is imperative that the sports governance landscape undergo a positive transformation to bring better outcomes, sporting excellence and aids in improved performance in major international competitions," read the bill's statement of objectives. All recognised national sports bodies would also come under the ambit of the Right to Information (RTI) Act, something that the BCCI has vehemently opposed since it is not dependent on government funding. However, the cricket board has got some leeway on that front with the government amending the bill to ensure that RTI would be applicable only on bodies that rely on government funding or support. The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill-2025 that seeks to incorporate the changes sought by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), which objected to "government interference" in the functioning of the country's Anti-Doping Agency (NADA). The act was originally passed in 2022 but its implementation had to be put on hold due to objections raised by WADA. The world body objected to the institution of a National Board for Anti-Doping in Sports, which was empowered to make recommendations to the government on anti-doping regulations. The Board, which was to comprise a chairperson and two members appointed by the central government, was also authorised to oversee the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) and even issue directions to it. WADA rejected this provision as government interference in an autonomous body. In the amended bill, the Board has been retained but without the powers to oversee NADA or the advisory role it was previously assigned. The amended bill asserts NADA's "operational independence".
