Netflix announced that a teaser for the highly anticipated fifth and final season of "Stranger Things," set to premiere later this year, would be released this week.
"9 years ago, the adventure began," the streaming giant wrote in an X post on July 15. "Stranger Things 5. Teaser tomorrow."
What lies ahead for the city of Hawkins after the crew's battle with the villain Vecna, whose physical form couldn't be found at the end of the Season 4 finale, is anyone's guess. When we last saw them, they were witnessing an apocalyptic transformation of their hometown.
The ragtag group of misfits has no choice but to come together as rifts, or portals to the Upside Down threaten the safety of the only reality they have ever known.
Their mission, complicated by the military mandated quarantine and the manhunt for Eleven (Millie Bobbie Brown), is to successfully locate and vanquish Vecna once and for all. And the anniversary of Will's (Noah Schnapp) disappearance looming certainly isn't helping.
"The final battle is looming — and with it, a darkness more powerful and more deadly than anything they've faced before. To end this nightmare, they'll need everyone — the full party — standing together, one last time," according to an official logline provided by Netflix.

According to Netflix, a teaser for "Stranger Things" Season 5 will drop Wednesday, July 16.
'Stranger Things' Season 5 release date
The Netflix original series will be released in three "volumes," with each batch having its own number of episodes and release dates.
The first volume, consisting of four episodes, will be released on Wednesday, Nov. 26 followed by the second volume, with three episodes on Christmas. The last volume, a.k.a. the finale, premieres on New Year's Eve.
Each volume will be available to stream on Netflix at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on their respective release dates.

'It's scary at moments': Creators say 'Wednesday' season 2 will bring real stakes and fear
If you thought 'Wednesday' was creepy and kooky before, season 2 is about to crank the horror up several notches. According to the show's creators, Miles Millar and Alfred Gough, the new season won't just flirt with spooky but dive headfirst into intense territory. When speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Millar said: 'There's some moments which are definitely horror movie-worthy. We have that in season 1, but I think this season there are moments that are very intense, I'll say.' Netflix's Black Mirror Faces Uncertain Future Without Original Duo
Black Mirror may be headed into uncharted territory. The creators of the dystopian sci-fi anthology, Charlie Brooker and Annabel Jones, have officially parted ways with their Netflix-owned production company Broke & Bones, raising real questions about whether the show can continue as we know it. The move marks the end of a five-year exclusive deal with Netflix, which began in 2020 when the streamer invested $100 million into the duo's new company.
