Verizon getting on customers' nerves by pulling promised discount
Some Reddit users have complained that the loyalty discount has been taken away. User tangodownrookie says that Verizon offered them a discount of $20 per line when they were about to leave, making them not only stay but also add another line. On top of that, they also got a new phone through the carrier, which has a financing term of three years. The discount has been pulled.
—tangodownrookie, Reddit user, July 2025 Verizon has effectively left them in the lurch. They wouldn't be a Verizon customer now if it weren't for the loyalty discount, which doesn't even apply to their bill anymore. And since they haven't paid off their phone yet, they can't leave right now. These discount usually ranges between $10 and $40 and is offered for up to 12 months, after which they may or may not be renewed. It's not known if the 12 months are up already for the affected users.
It's also possible that changes made recently to their accounts have made them ineligible for the discount, or they have applied a new promo that isn't stackable with these discounts. It could also be an error.
Either way, Verizon should be able to provide clarity, but tangodownrookie isn't willing to reach out to them, claiming customer service has proven inept in the past to help them sort out similar issues. They have been with Verizon for more than 20 years, so we can't be dismissive of their claims, although it's worth pointing out that the carrier has overhauled the customer service experience and and contacting the company is worth a shot.
Other customers have had similar issues in the past. Verizon abruptly removes discounts sometimes, without a forewarning. This leaves a bitter taste in the mouths of customers.
While Verizon may have its reasons, the company should ideally be transparent and forthcoming about all the terms and conditions to prevent any misunderstandings.
We have reached out to the company for clarity on the issue and will update the article if we hear back.

Google just made its AI only one tap away on Android
Google Search has been going through a serious transformation lately, and surprise, surprise – it's all about AI. Google has been busy baking AI features into everything, from how results show up to how we interact with them. And now, there is a new update that brings AI even closer to your testing different looks to figure out where to place "AI Mode," Google has now rolled out a homescreen widget shortcut that works on pretty much any Android device. With this, you can instantly jump into AI Mode straight from your home screen – no extra steps you tap it, you get the fullscreen AI prompt screen, just like a normal search but smarter (in theory). This shortcut first showed up back in April for some beta users, then disappeared, then came back… and now it finally looks like it's here to showing up for both beta and stable users running Google app version 16.28 on Android, as a new circular icon next to the voice mic and Google Lens in the updated Search widget. You can choose to bring AI Mode front and center. | Image credit – 9to5Google Setting it up is pretty simple. Just long-press the widget on your homescreen, tap "Customize," and head into the Shortcuts section. "AI Mode" is now right there, second on the list. If you're not using a Pixel phone, this widget might be the quickest way to access AI Mode. But there's a catch: if you're not part of the "AI Mode" Search Lab, things still look like before. You'll see the shortcut as a pill under the Search bar, not part of it – and you'll miss out on the sleeker UI that's rolling out to users in the new Discover feed design, complete with Search Live access. Old vs new look. | Image credit – 9to5Google There's actually a lot going on with Search lately. Google now lets you dig deeper using AI Overview with a set of three handy follow-up buttons. It can even make phone calls to businesses on your behalf and handle deep research tasks. The new "Search Live" feature is rolling out too, letting you speak casually and get real-time answers. And AI Mode is also expanding to Circle to Search, bringing gaming support and upgraded visuals. Basically, Google's AI is everywhere in Search now – and it's not slowing down. On top of that, the company is also testing a new way to organize results into categories, which could seriously change how we find things online. But while all this sounds great for saving time, I believe there's a flip side. With AI constantly trying to predict what we want, there's a risk we might stop exploring, stop learning new things, and miss out on results we didn't know we needed. It's a shiny new era for Search – but whether it makes us smarter or just more efficient… well, that part's still up in the air.

Galaxy Watch 8 users are frustrated by a surprisingly basic flaw
The Galaxy Watch 8 was just released with very impressive looks and specs. Unfortunately, though, it seems it's not perfect as many would wish it to be, and Samsung may have overlooked a tiny (but basic) element of the wearable's design. Many people are complaining about a relatively small but annoying thing that it seems Samsung didn't take into account when designing the Watch 8. Samsung fans have taken to Reddit to express their frustration. It seems that the smartwatch doesn't sit right on its own charging pad. More specifically, the 44mm Galaxy Watch 8 doesn't lie flat on Samsung's Wireless Charger Duo, and many users are not on board with that situation. The Watch 8 doesn't lie flat on the charger. | Image Credit - Luxkeiwoker on Reddit The Redditor who opened the post is even looking for a refund over what they state was a "stupid" design flaw. There are also plenty of other Galaxy Watch 8 buyers joining in the thread with similar concerns. Some people are concerned about slower charging speeds and even increased heat, caused by the smartwatch not sitting right on the charger. One person even observed that PowerShare from Galaxy phones doesn't work reliably with this timepiece either. People have found creative ways to get over the issue. | Image Credit - gabby131 on Reddit Unfortunately, it seems the strap design of the Galaxy Watch 8 wasn't made with this specific wireless charging pad in mind. Or any other charging pad where the timepiece is expected to sit relatively flat. In fact, the default rubber band curves down quite sharply, which prevents the device from resting flat on the pad. Unfortunately, this makes charging it more difficult. For a premium smartwatch like the Galaxy Watch 8 , that's a pretty big design flaw, in my opinion, and I understand why so many people are calling Samsung out about it. I'd expect the company to pay attention to the most basic aspect of any device - charging - and to ensure it would sit right, at least on the chargers the company itself is offering.
