Johor immigration detains 27 foreign workers in ops
Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the operation involved 25 officers following intelligence and public reports.
Those arrested included eight Indonesian men, eight Indonesian women, five Myanmar men, and six Myanmar women aged 18 to 50.
All detainees are suspected of violating Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
A local man, the premises owner, was also detained under Section 56(1)(d) for harbouring foreigners.
Mohd Rusdi confirmed the detainees were taken to Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation.
He warned the public and employers against hiring or sheltering illegal immigrants.
Employers were advised to verify foreign worker management claims with the nearest immigration office. – Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- A former wushu coach was today sentenced to 13 years in prison and four strokes of the cane by the Sessions Court here after being found guilty of committing physical sexual assault against a 10-year-old girl. Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar handed down the sentence after ruling that the defence had failed to raise a reasonable doubt in the case against Gjeblehim Bong Teck Fuu, 34. "The court imposes a sentence of 13 years' imprisonment from today, along with four strokes of the cane. The accused is also ordered to undergo counselling throughout the imprisonment period and placed under police supervision for three years after completing his sentence," said the judge. The court then dismissed an application by defence counsel Tharamjit Singh for a stay of execution pending an appeal to the High Court. Bong was charged with committing the offence in his capacity as a person in a position of trust, as the victim's coach, at a premises in Taman Sri Sentosa, Jalan Klang Lama, about 7.30 pm on April 13, 2022. He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act. Section 14(a) provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, while Section 16(1) carries a jail term of up to five years and not less than two strokes of the cane, upon conviction. In mitigation, defence counsel Tharamjit Singh urged the court to impose a lenient sentence, citing that the accused had to care for his elderly mother. However, deputy public prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff pressed for a heavier sentence, arguing that the offence was serious and had caused lasting psychological trauma to the victim.

Negeri Sembilan NCID destroys RM6.7 million in drug-case evidence
SEREMBAN: The Negeri Sembilan Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) destroyed drug-related evidence worth RM6.725 million today. The evidence included 21,075 grammes of ecstasy pills valued at RM3.5 million. Other items disposed of were 89,921 grammes of methamphetamine worth RM2.91 million. Ketamine weighing 1277.34 grammes (RM105,468) and 5,428.9 grammes of heroin (RM58,722) were also destroyed. Additionally, 33.46 grammes of vape liquid (RM33,470) were disposed of. Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof said the destruction involved completed cases from 2001 to July 2025. He stated that the evidence was stored in the state's narcotics case evidence store. A total of 2,076 investigation papers were linked to the disposed items. Ahmad Dzaffir also revealed that the NCID arrested 4,713 individuals in the first seven months of 2025. Among those arrested were 2,734 drug addicts and 1,313 individuals for drug possession. Another 664 suspects were detained for drug trafficking. Asset seizures during this period amounted to RM6.534 million. **TAIPING:** In a separate operation, Taiping police destroyed evidence from criminal cases worth RM355,292. Taiping district police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the items were linked to 40 completed investigation papers. The cases involved gambling, bitcoin, fireworks, and contraband from 2011 to 2025. Seized items included 427 bitcoin mining rigs worth RM106,750. Other destroyed evidence comprised cigarettes valued at over RM280,000. Alcohol worth RM1,753.55 and gambling equipment worth RM10,000 were also disposed of. - Bernama

JPJ To Confiscate Commercial Vehicles Of Companies Employing Foreign Drivers
GOMBAK, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- The Road Transport Department (JPJ) will enforce strict action including confiscating vehicles owned by companies and licensed operators that employ foreigners to drive commercial vehicles, effective today. JPJ's Senior Director of Enforcement Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the action involves lorries, public service vehicles (PSV) and tour (sightseeing) buses that use foreign drivers. According to him, based on current regulations, foreigners are not allowed to hold a Vocational Licence such as Goods Drivers Licence (GDL) or Public Service Vehicle (PSV) and any violation is a serious offence. "In this case, enforcement action can be taken according to Sections 22, 41, 57 of the Land Public Transport Act (APAD) 2010 for violating permit conditions and Section 80 of APAD 2010, which is that officers can seize and take to court to forfeit the commercial company's vehicle if found guilty," he said at a press conference at the JPJ Enforcement Station here today. He said the action follows an increasing trend of companies and licensed operators employing foreigners for around RM2,500 a month, as well as drivers with repeated offences. As of July this year, the JPJ had issued 2,733 summonses against foreigners driving commercial vehicles — involving 2,551 cases of no GDL, 93 cases or no PSV and 89 cases of overloading. "Licensed companies and operators in the transport industry are urged to always comply with the regulations set and ensure that every employee hired has valid documents and qualifications. "Continuous inspection and monitoring operations in collaboration with other enforcement agencies and uncompromising firm action will be taken against any party found to be violating any Act 333 of the Road Transport Act 1987 (suspension or endorsement/penalty points on driving licence), Act 715 of the APAD 2010 and other related acts," he said. Meanwhile, in an operation in Selayang yesterday, JPJ identified a foreign lorry driver who was using a fake MyKad and fake driving licence.
