No demolition threat to slums in Delhi: CM Rekha Gupta
Speaking after inaugurating a toilet block in a slum in Haiderpur, CM Gupta assured that no slum will be demolished without first providing permanent housing to its residents.
She said that FIRs will be filed and strict action will be taken against those spreading false information about demolitions.
She clarified that most anti-encroachment actions are being carried out in compliance with court orders and are targeting illegal occupations that are obstructing traffic or hindering public movement.
Talking about slum demolition near Jangpura, she said the action was ordered by the Delhi High Court.
"Wherever there are orders of the Court, neither the government nor the administration can do anything. Today, the reality of Madrasi Colony is that it is settled on the banks of the Barapullah drain, and the Court has repeated almost four times that these jhuggis (informal settlements) must be removed so that machines can reach there and cleaning can be done. Otherwise, there are chances of floods in Delhi like in 2023..." she added.
The Chief Minister said the previous Arvind Kejriwal government and Sheila Dikshit government did not do any development for residents of slum clusters in Delhi.
"The BJP government in Delhi is spending Rs 700 crore on various projects," she added.
The Chief Minister emphasised that every slum resident deserves to live with dignity.
"It is our responsibility to ensure that they enjoy the same facilities as other citizens of the city," she said.
The government's goal is not just redevelopment but also improvement in the standard of living of slum dwellers, she added.
On Sunday, she also inaugurated and inspected various development projects in Nehru Camp in Haiderpur, Ekta Camp in Pitampura, and the area near U and V Blocks of JJ Cluster in the Shalimar Bagh Assembly constituency.
The Chief Minister also reviewed key works such as laying of pipelines and construction of new roads in these areas.
She also announced that a clean and safe parks with swings will be developed especially for the children of slum areas in the city.
CM Gupta reiterated her government's commitment to ensuring that every resident of Delhi's slums has access to basic amenities such as clean water, proper roads, public toilets, and parks, so that no citizen is left behind in the journey of development.
On this occasion, the Chief Minister inaugurated the construction work of a 24-seater Jan Suvidha Kendra (public convenience centre) at JJ Cluster, Outer Ring Road, No. 26, Nehru Camp in Haiderpur.
She said that this Jan Suvidha Kendra will address the long-standing issue of toilet shortage in the area and will particularly benefit women, senior citizens, and children by providing clean and safe facilities.

Cong's ‘appeasement' politics led to Partition: Adityanath
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday said that the 1947 Partition was a dark chapter 'born out of appeasement politics of the Congress party' that shattered Sanatan Bharat's unity and inflicted deep wounds on the nation. Continuing his attack, Adityanath said that while revolutionaries willingly embraced martyrdom for India's freedom, the Congress divided the nation in its 'greed for power'. 'The Congress's policies led to the ethnic cleansing of Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists in places like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi and Multan in West Pakistan,' the chief minister said., 'The violence claimed 15-20 lakh lives and displaced crores, marking one of the darkest episodes in history,' he added. He further accused the then Congress government of showing complete apathy towards those displaced. 'No memorials were built and no museums were established in remembrance of Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains and Christians who were forced to leave their ancestral homes. Their suffering was erased from public memory,' Adityanath said. He praised PM Modi for granting citizenship and rehabilitation rights to refugees through the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), noting that for the first time, displaced people in Jammu and Kashmir and other regions received citizenship and began contributing to India's development. 'The Congress never made any sincere effort for their rehabilitation,' the CM said. Paying homage to the victims, Adityanath announced that the state government will provide land on leases and full rehabilitation to eligible families under the CAA. 'We are committed to protecting their rights and ensuring their dignity,' he affirmed. Emphasising the importance of connecting the younger generation with history, Adityanath said the exhibition portrays the grim reality of Partition, the massacres, riots, and forced migrations. 'Under Prime Minister Modi's leadership, this initiative is healing old wounds and awakening future generations to historical truths.' the CM said. Deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, cabinet minister Swatantra Dev Singh, and BJP state president Bhupendra Chaudhary among others were present on the occasion.

BJP accuses Congress govt. of ‘smear campaign' against Dharmasthala, Heggade
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday questioned the manner in which the Special Investigation Team (SIT) was conducting a probe into the alleged case of mass burials at Dharmasthala and accused the Congress government of a 'smear campaign' against the Dharmasthala temple and its pattadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade. Former Minister V. Sunil Kumar, who initiated the debate in the Legislative Assembly, alleged that under the pretext of the probe, the government had 'hatched a conspiracy' to spread falsehood against Hindu dharma and the place. Not a single FIR had been filed despite hundreds of social media posts 'slandering' the temple, Shri Manjunatha Swamy, and Dr. Heggade, he said, and questioned the government's silence. There had been a deliberate smear campaign by certain individuals and the government's apparent sympathy towards them has raised suspicion, the BJP leader claimed. Stating that no one was opposing justice for Soujanya, who was murdered in 2012, he said some YouTubers, in the name of freedom of expression, were attacking religious beliefs. The BJP member questioned the government's 'agenda' behind the probe and suspected the role of the INDIA bloc and the Congress high command in the entire episode. Leader of the Opposition R. Ashok, members S. Suresh Kumar, Araga Jnanendra, B.Y. Vijayendra, Harish Poonja, S.R. Vishwanath, Aravind Bellad (all BJP), and Basanagouda R. Patil Yatnal spoke against the government and demanded continuation of SIT probe to identify the people, organisations, and alleged source of funding behind the 'smear campaign' against the temple. Mr. Suresh Kumar claimed the SIT had 'no common sense' and it has been dancing to the tunes of the complainant. Mr. Ashok claimed there was 'a gang' behind the complaint and it had put pressure on the Chief Minister to order the probe. Terming the mask-wearing person (the complainant) as 'Spiderman' who had been enjoying all privileges and was provided security, he said lakhs of taxpayers' money had been spent on the digging. He demanded a NIA probe to nab groups supporting the complainant and sponsoring the 'smear campaign'. Mr. Poonja, who represents Belthangady, demanded that the SIT report be made public. Mr. Jnanendra said the police should have conducted a preliminary probe of the complainant before starting the digging. Mr. Yatnal warned a 'Ayodhya-like movement will be launched' if the government did not stop. All BJP members demanded a halt on the social media posts, a narco test of the complainant, and tabling of the interim probe report. SIT probe aimed at revealing truth: Home Minister In reply to the Opposition's remarks against the government, Home Minister G. Parameshwara said the probe 'should not take a political or a dharmic turn.' In a terse reply to the Opposition, he said: 'We have not formed SIT under any pressure. The probe is aimed at unearthing the truth and ensuring justice. We have huge respect for Dharmasthala.' The government has given a free hand to the SIT and action would be taken against any persons who launch false campaigns. He noted the rural development and women empowerment projects, education provided to lakhs of students by trusts headed by the pattadhikari and asked BJP members: 'Don't you need a probe for Dr. Heggade to come clean? Truth will come out as per the framework of the law.' The Home minister is expected to provide a detailed reply on Monday.

CM Yogi refutes school closure claims; highlights UP's education, employment gains
New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday strongly rejected Opposition allegations that his government has shut down 29,000 schools, asserting instead that the state's education system is being strengthened through integration and modernisation initiatives. Speaking in the Assembly, CM Adityanath clarified that schools with fewer than 50 students and located within a one-kilometre radius are being merged under a 'school pairing' initiative to create integrated campuses with improved infrastructure. 'Our aim is to achieve a 22:1 student–teacher ratio and enhance education quality,' he said. Highlighting pre-2017 conditions, CM Adityanath said 1.56 lakh basic and affiliated schools faced poor infrastructure, an imbalanced student–teacher ratio, and the highest dropout rate in the country. Under programmes like 'School Chalo Abhiyan' and 'Operation Kayakalp', community members and public representatives were encouraged to adopt schools, leading to upgrades such as smart classes, digital libraries, solar power, playgrounds, and better seating. Students now receive two uniforms, bags, books, shoes, and socks free of cost. Bal Vatika and pre-primary classes for children aged 3–6 years are being introduced, while a Rs 100 crore CM Nutrition Mission package will address malnutrition and anaemia among children. Since 2017, UP has recorded 40 lakh new school enrollments and a sharp fall in dropout rates. CM Adityanath also cited progress in higher and technical education, including courses in AI, Robotics, and Space Technology in 150 government ITIs, the establishment of 71 new government colleges, and the renovation of 75-year-old inter colleges. On employment, CM Adityanath claimed 8.5 lakh jobs have been given since 2017, including to 1.75 lakh women, boosting female workforce participation from 13.5 per cent to 35 per cent and reducing unemployment from 19 per cent to 3 per cent. Through CM YUVA, 1.65 crore youth have found jobs, while UP now hosts 7,200 startups and 50 incubators. CM Adityanath added, "In the police force, 62,200 new personnel have been recruited. Training capacity has expanded from 3,000 to 60,000, and residential facilities have been upgraded from dilapidated barracks to modern high-rise complexes." Cybercrime, identified as a major challenge, is now being tackled with one cyber police station in each of the 75 districts, compared to just one in Gautam Buddha Nagar before 2017. A dedicated cyber headquarters is being established, and cyber help desks are now operational in every police station in the state.
