Lionsgate Explores AI for Content Adaptation and Production Efficiency
Lionsgateis actively exploring artificial intelligence, specifically through a partnership withAIstartup Runway, to adapt existing content and streamline production, a move that could reshape how films are created and distributed. The studio inked a deal with AI startup Runway last September, marking Runway's first pact with a Hollywood studio.
Michael Burns, Lionsgate's vice chairman, revealed toNew York Magazinethat the studio is experimenting with various AI applications. One significant potential use involves repackaging the studio's extensive library, allowing for adjustments in tone, format, and even rating. This could enable the creation of softer, kid-friendly cuts or even convert live-action films into animated versions. Burns stated that a live-action film could be transformed into a PG-13 anime version in just three hours. Burns notes that with the help of AI, the filmmaker can take their signature action franchises likeJohn Wickand theHunger Gamesand 'Now we can say, 'Do it in anime, make it PG-13.' Three hours later, I'll have the movie.' While the executive reiterates that actors will still be paid, this move means that ' I can do that, and now I can resell it.'
Furthermore, AI could offer substantial cost savings in production. Burns cited an example where a complex shot involving '10,000 soldiers on a hillside with a bunch of horses in a snowstorm' could be generated by AI for approximately $10,000, avoiding a multi-million dollar shoot. This strategic integration of AI aims to enable the production of movies and television shows that would otherwise be financially unfeasible.

Susan Collins to get Hollywood treatment at fundraiser with Democrats
The fundraiser will be held at the home of Sherry Lansing, a former Paramount Pictures chair and prominent liberal donor, according to three people with knowledge of the fundraiser. Lansing's home in the Bel Air neighborhood is a mainstay on the philanthropy and Democratic fundraising circuit, hosting the likes of Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis of California on her patio, which opens to sweeping views of Los Angeles. Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Lansing is set to co-host the event with Casey Wasserman, the sports and entertainment mogul and chair of the Los Angeles Olympics organizing committee, which is handling logistics for the Summer Games in 2028. Wasserman is a longtime Democratic giver as well, but he has taken steps to ingratiate himself with the right as of late, giving Olympic medals to President Donald Trump at the White House this month and donating to some Republicans during this election cycle. Advertisement Casey Wasserman, chairman of LA28, presented medals from the 1984 Olympics to President Trump in Washington on Aug. 5. Alex Brandon/Associated Press The Bel Air event has attracted some attention in Hollywood because Democrats will need to topple Republicans such as Collins if they have a chance at retaking the Senate. It is unclear how strong a candidate Democrats will field in Maine. On Tuesday, a political novice, Graham Platner, announced his entry into the Democratic primary. Advertisement Wasserman and Lansing decided to participate in the Southern California fundraiser because it was set up as a bipartisan host committee, with two Democrats and two Republicans, according to a person close to them. One of the Republicans is Harry E. Sloan, a former chair of MGM and a current member of the Lionsgate board. Sloan was once a prominent backer of moderate Republicans such as John McCain, but in recent years he has also made six-figure contributions to Democrats, including to back the 2024 presidential campaigns of Joe Biden and then Kamala Harris. Sloan's wife, Florence, a filmmaker with similar giving patterns to her husband, is also listed on the invitation. The other Republican hosting the event is Michael Burns, vice chair of the Lionsgate film and television studio. 'I'm proud to have supported my dear friend Senator Collins for many years,' Burns said in a text message. 'She remains a clear-thinking, bipartisan moderate in a world that, at least for the moment, is something far different.' Lansing, Wasserman and Sloan did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Collins' campaign had no comment. Tickets for the reception run from $3,500 to $10,000. Collins is also expected to attend finance events in Northern California around the time of the Bel Air fundraiser, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. Cult Status Streetwear Brand Kith Hosts First Fashion Show Since 2019
At Sunday evening's fashion show from the brand Kith, the weather gods toyed with the label's effort to stage its first fashion show in six years. Entitled "Institution", the runway spectacle scheduled for 6:30 PM was held outside the brand's newly renovated Manhattan flagship store at 337 Lafayette Street in Noho. Minutes prior, an unexpected thunderstorm sped through the New York City area, causing a torrential downpour. Fortunately, it passed through almost as quickly as it appeared, clearing the skies for Ronnie Fieg's vision for Fall 2025 to parade down the astroturf runway in the street, in front of the boutique that routinely has lines outside of it. Adding to the festive environment was a performance by rapper and longtime friend of Fieg, Gashi and Jimi Banks, after his recent album release, The Killah Whales of Gotham, who provided the soundtrack for celebs-cum-models Jordan Clarkson, Jim Jones, Dave East, Victor Cruz, and Malik Nabers, who walked in the show. Also in attendance were Carmelo Anthony, John Leguizamo, and his son, who have starred in Kith campaigns; Fabolous, Westside Gunn, Joey Bada$$, Frances Tiafoe, Heidi Klum and her son Johan Samuel, there to cheer on Klum's other son, model Henry Samuel, and Michael Strahan and his daughters, Isabella and Sophia. For a brand most associated with its logo Tees, the collection showed a twist on its casual roots with one of its most elevated collections to date. This was mainly due to the return of a brand sub-label &Kin, which reimagines core brand concepts in premium fabrications—think rich suedes, smooth leathers, Italian wool suiting, and Mohair sweaters. The collection blended its street-inspired ethos with tailored silhouettes for a style mélange best expressing its viewpoint. To wit, a shirt and tie styled under a football-inspired jersey and paired with a suede bomber-style jacket and pin-striped shorts, or a double-breasted brown suit worn with a green leather Kith team jacket. The effect was achieved by layering in the brand's Kith Classics and second generation of K-Tech, Kith's newly introduced lifestyle and performance collection. In true New York spirit, the show was peppered with styles branded with New York teams such as the Yankees and the Knicks, as well as the NFL. The release also features the brand's most robust accessories offerings with its Suede Monogram Program, featuring the introduction of signature carryall bags in new sizes, crossbodies, and small leather goods such as belts and cardholders made of premium Kith Monogram debossed cowhide suede. Each style from this collection is offered in hues from the Kith Palette—Stadium, Ink, Incognito, Magma, and Black. The news for Kith's fall footwear comes via Founder, CEO & Creative Director, Ronnie Fieg's newest iteration of the Black-Tie Superstar, and Kith's latest partnership with Birkenstock to debut the Braided Boston silhouette, featuring the duo's hand-braided execution on Birkenstock's iconic silhouette. Also featured were select future collaborations, including partnerships with Adidas on a new Heritage Running offering, Kith's second chapter of Adidas Football, and Ronnie Fieg's latest 8th St. Wallabee Collection with Adidas Originals and Clarks Originals, and Kith's newest 101 Program with Japanese brand, Ssstein, previewing the Winter 2025 Collection. Kith Fall 2025 releases on Friday, August 22nd at Kith shops and 11 AM EST/CET on & the Kith App.
