TN Guv reserves Kalaignar University Bill for President's consideration

Hans Indiaa day ago
Chennai: Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi has reserved for President Droupadi Murmu's consideration the Kalaignar University Bill, which was passed by the state legislative assembly earlier this year, a senior official at the Secretariat said.
The Bill proposes the establishment of Kalaignar University in Kumbakonam by bifurcating Bharathidasan University, aiming to cater to the higher education needs of students in Ariyalur, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, and Tiruvarur districts.
It is named after former Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi, father of incumbent Chief Minister M K Stalin. Once approved, Stalin will serve as its first Vice Chancellor.
The Bill is one of two referred to the President by the Governor. The second seeks to amend the Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University Act to empower the state government to appoint and remove the Vice Chancellor of the sports university, the official said.
Both Bills were passed by the assembly in April and subsequently sent to the Governor for assent. State Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiaan had earlier announced that the new university would commence operations from the 2025-26 academic year.
However, the delay in obtaining assent has hindered the inauguration, the official added.

If Prez Denies Appointment…Cong plans ‘Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan'

Hyderabad: In case of denial of President's appointment, Telangana Congress leaders, led by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, will be organising 'Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan' on Thursday. According to party sources, the leaders are still optimistic about the appointment. But in case President Droupadi Murmu denies, the next plan of action would be marching towards the official residence of the President. 'Our next plan of action in case an appointment is denied will be building further pressure. We shall be holding a dharna at Rashtrapati Bhavan. 'Chalo Rashtrapati Bhavan' will be the next idea to highlight the issue of BC reservations in the national capital,' said a BC leader in Delhi. Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi who could not attend the Mahadharna at Jantar Mantar as he was attending final rights of Shibu Soren urged President Droupadi Murmu to give her assent to Telangana's reservation bills. "The Telangana Government and Congress sat on a dharna in Delhi today, demanding President's assent to the law reserving 42% for backward classes in education, employment and local government. Groups of Ministers from Andhra to be sent on study tours to developed countries

Groups of Ministers will be sent to the developed countries to study the development projects there with an aim to bringing innovative policies to Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has informed the Cabinet. The Ministers, particularly the young ones, will be divided into groups for the purpose. The Chief Minister will constitute the groups and assign them schedules. Mr. Naidu revealed the idea after the Cabinet meeting he chaired at the Secretariat on Wednesday. Mr. Naidu said the Ministers should understand the development projects in the countries they visit and find new ways to develop Andhra Pradesh. Revealing details of his Singapore visit, Mr. Naidu told the Cabinet that the previous YSRCP government had created fear among the investors. The Chief Minister, according to a few Ministers, said, 'With great difficulty, we have been able to revive confidence among the Ministers and officials in the Singapore Government. Due to the unacceptable attitude of the YSRCP Government, the Singapore Government, lost trust in us. After more than 40 meetings, the Singapore authorities have accepted to come and participate in the investor summit slated for November in Andhra Pradesh to explore opportunities. They are reluctant to take up the Seed Capital project, as agreed before 2019, but they will extend support to complete the project.' On reorganisation of districts, Mr. Naidu asked the Group of Ministers to finalise the changes and submit the report in a month. On the liquor scam, he told the Ministers that the government was committed to taking the issue to its logical conclusion. The Chief Minister said, from the next Cabinet meeting, one Minister must explain the progress and achievements of his portfolio. A senior Minister said, 'Presenting self-progress in the Cabinet is a good opportunity for the young Ministers. They will have an additional advantage in improving their performance. The Chief Minister and other Cabinet colleagues will suggest how to improve the performance and find solutions to problems.' The Chief Minister also suggested the Ministers to counter the misinformation being spread by some vested interests against the government. 'Despite visible development, implementing poll promises, and delivering good governance, some opposition camps have been spreading misinformation, which must be countered,' he said.

Anbil Mahesh hopeful of SC relief after governor withholds assent to varsity bill

1 2 Trichy: School education minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi expressed his dissatisfaction after governor R N Ravi forwarded the Kalaignar University Bill to the President without offering any response. He said he hoped the Supreme Court would once again rule in favour of the state government. Addressing the media after a review meeting on Class 10 and 12 results in Mayiladuthurai, Anbil said, "He (the Governor) has forwarded it to the President without any responses. Every time, we are forced to take legal routes. Hopefully, the court delivers a favourable verdict." The bill, which proposes a university in Kumbakonam, has faced delays as the Governor chose to reserve it for the President's assent. Asked about former minister C V Shanmugam's petition in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on using chief minister M K Stalin 's name in state government schemes, dismissed by the court on Wednesday, Anbil said it was unfortunate that politics was being played over names instead of focusing on the benefits of the schemes. He pointed out that the government continues to retain names of former chief ministers M G Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa in schemes such as the Puratchi Thalaivar MGR Nutritious Meal Programme and Amma Unavagam. "He (Shanmugam) is playing politics either for attention or out of fear," the minister said. Anbil also expressed hope that Mayiladuthurai district would improve its academic performance in the coming years.
