‘Poor taste': Amul topical features viral ‘kiss cam' couple from Coldplay concert, netizens disapprove

A Coldplay concert recently sent the Internet into a frenzy after a pair of concertgoers appeared on the jumbotron at the venue, also called the 'kiss cam'. As the meme fest continues, Amul, India's beloved dairy brand, too jumped on the bandwagon. While Amul's advertisements are often well-received, the new ad featuring the 'Coldplay couple' has not landed well on social media.
The kiss cam footage from the concert had triggered a scandal as it involved Astronomer's then-CEO Andy Bryon and Kristin Cabot, the company's HR head.
Amul's new poster features a doodle of the controversial couple, with the iconic Amul girl on the side. It also included a cheeky reference to the iconic song from the 1973 Hindi film Bobby. 'Hum tum ek camera mein bandh ho! (You and I are locked in a camera.) Only Scoops, no oops!' the text on the ad read.
Sharing the post, Amul wrote, 'Amul Topical: Couple caught on 'kiss cam' at Coldplay concert!'

However, the ad did not sit well with several social media users, who slammed the brand for stooping low. 'Not expected amul to join this Coldplay couple meme bandwagon,' a user wrote. 'This is in poor taste for your standards, please don't fall for such trending topics,' another user commented.
'What's this, why this? Not expected from the Amul creative team,' a third user reacted.
Meanwhile, a new video of Coldplay's frontman, Chris Martin, has emerged in which he warns concertgoers of the jumbotron seconds before the viral moment. In the footage, Martin is seen saying, 'Now what we would like to do is say hello to some of you. The way we're going to do that is, using our cameras, you can look at the screens and we can see who is out there and say hello. Let's go looking, please.'
'Either they are having an affair or they are just very shy. I hope we didn't do something bad,' he quickly said after the camera panned onto Byron and Cabot.
Following the scandal, Astronomer released an official statement informing that Andy Bryon resigned as the CEO.

Kartik Aaryan Turns Andy Byron-Kristen Cabot's Coldplay Kiss Cam Scandal Into A Meme

Kartik Aaryan shared the video, writing, 'Fitness Freak, KARTIK AARYAN, caught cheating on his diet, at the Coldplay concert last night' atop it. What was meant to be a cosy moment at a concert turned into a nightmare for former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and the Head of HR Kristen Cabot. Their intimate moment has now turned into a viral trend on social media, with many celebrities and brands recreating it, adding their own flavours. The latest star to jump on the bandwagon is Bollywood's very own Kartik Aaryan. The actor, who is currently busy with the shoot of Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri, shared a video of himself on his Instagram account, showing how he 'Almost got fired.' The clip begins with a fan's reaction to him being shown on the kiss cam at the actual Coldplay concert, where the incident happened. It then cuts to showing the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 actor having a chocolate, shirtless. Once he realised that the spotlight was on him, Kartik, just as Andy and Kristen tried to hide away, spat the chocolate and ducked out of the frame, with two other individuals, probably his team members, laughing at his action. He then returned to the frame with two dumbbells and was seen exercising. 'Fitness Freak, KARTIK AARYAN, caught cheating on his diet, at the Coldplay concert last night" was written atop the video. View this post on Instagram A post shared by KARTIK AARYAN (@kartikaaryan) Internet Reacts to Kartik Aaryan's Recreation of Andy Byron And Kristen Cabot's Viral Moment Within hours of posting the video, it raked in over 2.6 million views on the platform, with thousands reacting to it. Actor Aparshakti Khurana dropped a few laughing face emojis, whereas one of his fans said, 'Only you could have recreated this." Another added, 'Should have said it's max protein bar." A different fan wrote, 'You indeed know the best ideas to create content." At the Coldplay concert at Gillette Stadium in Boston on July 16, frontman Chris Martin decided to hype the crowd with the popular 'kiss cam" segment. The camera panned across the thousands of fans in attendance and landed on Andy Byron, the married CEO of the tech company Astronomer, and his Chief People Officer, Kristin Cabot. As seen in videos, the two were wrapped in each other's arms when the camera caught them. In that moment, they panicked and tried hiding away. Seeing them react that way, Chris tells the crowd, 'Oh, look at these two," adding, 'Oh, what? Either they're having an affair or they're just very shy." Since the incident unfolded live on camera, Andy has resigned from his position. Kristen, on the other hand, has been put on leave by the company. Hindi speakers' society of West Bengal to celebrate 100 years of Premchand's masterpiece Rangbhoomi in Kolkata

While it is common to celebrate the centenary of a personality or an event, it is not often that 100 years of the publication of a book is remembered through an event, something that a group of Hindi-speaking people in West Bengal is doing for Premchand's masterpiece Rangbhoomi. At a time when it has become almost routine for language fanatics to make news, the Paschim Banga Hindi Bhashi Samaj (West Bengal Hindi Speakers' Society) is holding a seminar on July 31, 2025 to revisit the Hindi novel that was published a century ago. The event will be held at Premchand Library in north Kolkata. Editorial | Premchand, who? 'The milestone is a memorable moment in Hindi literature, more so because the story is more relevant than ever. It is the story of a poor man being displaced from his land, something that is the reality of today's India. The problems depicted by Premchand in his literature have all acquired monstrous forms,' Ashok Singh, general secretary of the Society and former head of Hindi department at Surendranath Evening College, told The Hindu. 'In the words of critic Ram Vilas Sharma, Rangbhoomi represents the period that saw the beginning of the farmers' movement against landowners in the Hindi belt in the 1920s. They were fighting a lone battle without the help of any political party or leader. They lost because at the time farmers and labourers didn't have a union; that's what the protagonist, a blind beggar called Surdas, advises them while dying — he asked them to unite,' Mr. Singh said. Also Read | Premchand, trashed? 'Imagine, this was the 1920s, as if Premchand was looking at the future. He makes Surdas say, 'We may have lost, but we have not deserted the game, let us catch our breath and we will come back, we will learn from you with each defeat and will eventually defeat you someday.' Today, on one hand, the government is working in the interest of the corporates by displacing farmers from their lands, but on the other, an organised peasant movement has forced the government to withdraw three anti-farmer laws,' Mr. Singh said. According to him, ever since the Paschim Banga Hindi Bhashi Samaj was set up, in 1999, its objective has been to hold literary and cultural events, and among the icons it has celebrated so far include Rahi Masoom Raza, Mrinal Sen and Ritwik Ghatak. Awakening the aesthete within the reader 'The main objective of the language communalism you see in the country these days is to distract people from burning problems such as unemployment, inflation, poor education and privatisation of the health sector. In West Bengal, this sort of communalism was initiated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during the 2019 elections when she said that the Hindi-speaking people in the State, who formed 15% of the population, were its guests,' Mr. Singh said.
