Rahul Gandhi's Car Hits Cop During Bihar Yatra, BJP's "Crush Janta" Jibe

Nawada: A policeman was injured during a freak incident involving a car carrying the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, during the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar this morning. The open-top jeep had run over the cop's feet on the crowded street dotted with the politician's supporters and security personnel in Nawada. Fellow policemen and the politician's supporters immediately pushed the vehicle backwards and rescued the policeman. The cop was seen limping away after being freed from under the car's wheels. Mr Gandhi, who was seen standing in the open-top jeep, immediately took a water bottle and gave it to his supporters to assist the injured policeman. He later met the policeman and inquired about his injury. The BJP targeted the Congress over the incident and claimed the police constable was "crushed" under Mr Gandhi's car. Mocking the Congress march as "Crush Janta Yatra", party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala said, "Rahul Gandhi's car crushed a police constable, who was critically injured. Dynast did not even get down to check on him." Voter Adhikar Yatra ❎ Crush Janta Yatra ✅✅ Rahul Gandhi's car crushed a police constable who was critically injured. Dynast did not even get down to check on him — Shehzad Jai Hind (Modi Ka Parivar) (@Shehzad_Ind) August 19, 2025 The Congress leader had launched the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Sasaram last Sunday in a campaign strategy ahead of the Bihar elections, expected to be held this year-end. Flanked by top Opposition leaders, including the RJD's Lalu Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, the Congress had billed it as a moral crusade to safeguard democracy, pushing Mr Gandhi's claim that a conspiracy is being hatched to "steal votes" in Bihar. The 16-day-long march will end in Patna on September 1, covering over 20 districts and 1,300 km. Among the prominent places it will pass through are Nalanda, Munger, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Purnea, Darbhanga, Siwan, Chapra, and Ara. The political march follows the north-south Bharat Jodo Yatra and east-west Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra that the Congress claims led to major electoral gains for the party.

'Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra': BJP targets Rahul's 'Voter Adhikar Yatra'; seeks apology after Psephologist deletes Maharashtra elections data

BJP slams Rahul Gandhi for allegations in Maharashtra polls after Lokniti CSDS co-director admits error in data BJP slams Rahul Gandhi for allegations in Maharashtra polls after Lokniti CSDS co-director admits error in data 1 2 NEW DELHI: BJP on Tuesday lashed out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his "vote theft" allegations, two days after psephologist Sanjay Kumar admitted to sharing incorrect voter data related to the Maharashtra elections. BJP accused the leader of opposition of relying on "false and unverified figures" targeting the Election Commission and labelling "genuine voters as fake." BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya said Rahul Gandhi had leaned on Lokniti-CSDS data, which has now admitted to errors not just in Maharashtra but also in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). "The very institution whose data Rahul Gandhi leaned on to defame the voters of Maharashtra has now admitted that its figures were wrong -- not just on Maharashtra, but even on SIR," Malviya wrote on X. Questioning the Congress MP, Malviya added, "Where does this leave Rahul Gandhi and the Congress, which brazenly targeted the Election Commission and went so far as to brand genuine voters as fake? Shameful." He also dubbed Rahul's ongoing 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar as the 'Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra' (Save the Infiltrator Yatra), and demanded an unconditional apology. "Rahul Gandhi must immediately abandon his "Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra" (Save the Infiltrator Yatra) in Bihar and tender an unconditional apology to the people of India for his callous and regressive politics," the BJP leader posted on X. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo These remarks came after Sanjay Kumar issued a public apology, saying a data misreading by his team had led to misleading claims about voter numbers in two constituencies. "I sincerely apologise for the tweets posted regarding Maharashtra elections. Error occurred while comparing data of 2024 LS and 2024 AS. The data in row was misread by our Data team. The tweet has since been removed. I had no intention of dispersing any form of misinformation,' he posted. The clarification, however, did little to pacify the BJP. Malviya, earlier mocked Kumar's record as a psephologist, alleging that his predictions have consistently been wrong and biased against the BJP. Earlier in the day, Malviya posted, "The apology is in, and Sanjay Kumar is out. Incidentally, when was the last time this protégé of Yogendra Yadav ever got anything right? In all his projections in the run-up to every single election, the BJP is supposedly losing—and when the reverse happens, he turns up on TV justifying how the BJP won. Convenient. He must think TV audiences are fools." What was the claim? In his now-deleted post on the Maharashtra elections, psephologist Sanjay Kumar claimed a sharp drop in voter numbers between the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls. He said that in Ramtek constituency, voters fell from 4,66,203 in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls to 2,86,931 in the Assembly polls — a '38.45% decrease.' In Devlali, he claimed voters declined from 4,56,072 to 2,88,141 — a '36.82% decrease.' Meanwhile, on Monday, the Supreme Court dismissed a petition alleging irregularities in the Maharashtra Assembly elections held in November 2024.

'India will be ...': What BJP said on impact of Trump's tariff; cites local consumption

NEW DELHI: The (BJP) on Tuesday downplayed the impact of US President Donald Trump's decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on India, asserting that India's economy would be "least affected" by tariffs despite global pressures. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Addressing a press briefing, BJP national spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam said India was 'going to be the least affected by tariffs' due to its strong domestic consumption base. 'A lot of people are talking about tariffs these days... I want to tell you in brief that India is such a country that is going to be the least affected by tariffs. What is the reason for that? Today, there is a 57-58% contribution of local consumption to our GDP... Whatever impact there is in our economy, the pace at which it is moving, it is not going to decrease; rather it will grow faster. That is why when the rating agency saw that there is one such positive thing in India that 20% of the world's population lives in India, there is local consumption and this is not an export driven economy, India will comfortably bear this problem too,' Islam said. He further noted that India's economic performance stood in sharp contrast to Western nations. 'Looking at the global scenario today, inflation in America and the UK is higher than ours. Today, the whole world is grappling with inflation, while here, inflation is under control. The Congress often discusses Food Inflation; I want to tell them that today, food inflation in the country is -1.6%. This means the prices of food and drink items have decreased,' he said. The BJP spokesperson also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi's economic policies for strengthening India's global position. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now 'At a time, when the world is grappling with economic turbulence and pricing challenges, international rating agencies hold a positive outlook on India's economy. This transformation has been made possible by the government's policy measures and reforms. I thank the people of our nation for choosing a stable and strong government three times in a row... The kind of policies that Prime Minister Modi has adopted since 2014, I can proudly say today that the country's economy has not only become stronger but is also racing forward rapidly. From all institutions and economists around the world, only positive signals are coming regarding India's economy,' Islam said.
