Manish Sisodia's controversial video triggers political storm in Punjab

Chandigarh, August 16 (UNI): A video of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab in-charge and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has sparked a political uproar in Punjab. with opposition parties accusing AAP of planning to resort to unethical tactics to win the 2027 assembly elections.
In the video, Sisodia is heard saying that AAP will do 'whatever it takes' to win the 2027 assembly elections, including using tactics like 'truth or lies, fights or quarrels.'
Speaking at a women's wing workshop in Mohali on August 13, Sisodia addressed party workers, said, 'Our women's team will go door-to-door with AAP's achievements. The real challenge for the women's wing is to ensure victory in the 2027 elections. To win, we will use every means persuasion, money, punishment, deception, truth or lies, questions or answers, fights or quarrels. Are you ready?'
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP Punjab President Aman Arora were present at the event, with Mann seen smiling at Arora during Sisodia's remarks.
The video, which has since gone viral, has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal accused AAP of exposing its 'true face.'
He alleged that the party is willing to resort to lies, deceit, and even violence to cling to power.
Referring to the past incidents, including the 2015 sacrilege cases and the 2016 Malerkotla incident, where an AAP MLA was convicted, Badal claimed that these were part of a conspiracy to weaken SAD and disrupt Punjab's communal harmony.
He urged the Election Commission to take action against AAP.
Slamming Sisodia, Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring warned that Punjab is not Delhi or any other state.
'Punjabis have a history of defeating those who try to oppress them, from the Mughals to others. You can win hearts with humility, but force will not work here,' Warring said.
He questioned Sisodia's motives, adding, 'Punjabis may have been misled once, but they won't forgive those who try to manipulate them again.'

HC to check AAP plea on Kejriwal's house on Aug 25

New Delhi: Delhi High Court has said it will examine on Aug 25 the plea of Aam Aadmi Party seeking allotment of a residential accommodation to its national convener and former chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, in the national capital. Justice Sachin Datta adjourned the matter for a detailed hearing on the plea, which seeks directions to the central govt to allot accommodation to Kejriwal. The petition contends that under the guidelines for the allotment of accommodation from the general pool to political parties, the president of a recognised national party was entitled to one govt residence in Delhi, provided they neither own a house nor were allotted one in any other official capacity. "All pre-conditions are met. There is a national convener, who is also the national president. We are requesting a centrally located residence," senior advocate Rahul Mehra, representing AAP, submitted earlier. A previous bench granted the party office space when it lacked one, and the current request was for residential accommodation, he added. The petition notes Kejriwal vacated his official residence at 6 Flagstaff Road on Oct 4 after stepping down as chief minister. Since then, he has been staying at the official residence of another party member near Mandi House, it added. According to the guidelines, recognised national parties are allowed to secure the allotment of one housing unit from the general pool in Delhi for their office use on the payment of a licence fee. The guidelines also state that one residential accommodation would be allotted to the president of a recognised national party in case he has no house in Delhi, either of his own or allotted by the govt in any other capacity. Last year, AAP was allocated a new office at Pandit Ravi Shankar Shukla Lane in Lutyens' Delhi after it approached the high court, which ruled that the party was entitled to a space for its office here like other national parties and asked the BJP-led Centre to take a decision on the issue. Sukhbir Badal outraged over ex-PM's turban-less photo

Chandigarh: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal has expressed displeasure over the circulation of an AI-generated photograph of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, showing him without a turban. "As a devout Sikh, I feel deeply outraged by the sacrilegious disfigurement of our late Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh's image, showing him with shorn hair without a turban. This is an outrage not only against our respected late Sikh Prime Minister but also against the Sikh community and the separate religious identity of the Khalsa Panth," said Badal. The Akali leader demanded that the culprits be booked under Section 298 of the BNS and put behind bars immediately. Putin demanded territorial concessions for ending war during Alaska summit

Moscow/Washington, Aug 16 (UNI) During the US – Russia summit in Alaska on Friday, President Donald Trump and Vladmir Putin had touched upon the much-anticipated topic of a possible land swap, as part of ending the war. The Russian President reportedly told his American counterpart that he was willing to end all hostilities in exchange for complete control of Donetsk and Luhansk, as per The Guardian. No comments on the matter have come forth, though the summit was said to have heavily leaned in Moscow's favour, implying a possible agreement on this. While neither side was able to reach a complete agreement, both leaders noted the talks to be constructive. The Kremlin has made no secret of its demands to end the war, which include Ukraine not joining the NATO, its demilitarisation and denazification, a stop to weapons exports by other nations, and the territorial concessions of the majority Russian speaking regions of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, along with the international recognition of Crimea as being part of Russia. While majority of the Donbas region is already under Russian control, Ukraine still controls 25-30% of the area. As such, Moscow is currently engaged in a military offensive on that front, targeting Kyiv's fortifications and cutting of all supply lines. Though Putin has said that he'll stop the military advance on that front if Kyiv agrees, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has adamantly refused to cede any territories to Russia, while its European allies reaffirmed that Ukraine's borders must not be altered through force.
