ITV Coronation Street star Colson Smith reunites with soap co-star after emotional exit

Daily Record16-06-2025
Colson Smith's character Craig Tinker was killed off in Coronation Street, leaving fans of the soap heartbroken earlier this year.
Former Corrie star Colson Smith had a sweet reunion with his on-screen partner following his departure from the popular soap. Colson, who portrayed Craig Tinker, had been a part of the show since 2011.
However, his time on the programme came to a close recently when his character met a tragic end while on duty as a police officer. It was no surprise that Colson, 26, would be leaving Coronation Street, after announcing the news back in January.

At the time, he shared a photo of himself in his character's police uniform, standing on the iconic cobbles, and expressed: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker's time on the Cobbles is to come to end in 2025."

Reflecting on his 14-year tenure on the show, Colson mentioned that he had thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it. He felt extremely fortunate to have grown up amid the ITV soap environment, crediting the people involved with the show for teaching him valuable life lessons.
He also expressed his excitement about portraying Craig's exit storyline. The actor added: "For me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!".
After Colson finished filming his final scenes for Coronation Street earlier this year in March, his character's tragic demise at the hands of newcomer Mick Michaelis unfolded in heartbreaking scenes last month. Craig had been a part of the Weatherfield community since 2011.
On Sunday June 15, the beloved former soap star was spotted lending a helping hand at Soccer Aid for UNICEF as reported by the Manchester Evening News, hosted at Manchester United's iconic stadium Old Trafford.
Colson Smith joined the roster of famous faces manning the 'appreciation station', fielding calls from generous individuals keen to donate. Brothers Adam and Ryan Thomas, Strictly Come Dancing's Nadiya Bychkova, and Dragons' Den investor Sara Davies were also among the celebs involved.

However it was one reunion that got everyone talking, as Colson's ex-Coronation Street pal and on-screen romantic interest Ellie Leach as Colson gleefully posed together with her for a selfie, marking a sweet reunion nearly two years post their on-screen split.
Amid the glitzy charity football extravaganza broadcast live on television, Colson shared an Instagram snapshot as he busied himself with the hotline. His accompanying caption was cheerful: "Ey Up, it's Colson at Soccer Aid HQ here! How may I help you? ! ?".

The actor's fans didn't take long to pour in their encouragement. One person expressed: "So proud of u! !" Meanwhile, another quipped, "Nice one col.."

Rhian Sugden reveals the striking difference after her breast reduction and lift - after going from a 32HH to a 32E cup size

Rhian Sugden showed off the striking difference in her appearance since undergoing a breast reduction and lift surgery in an Instagram video on Wednesday. The glamour model, 38, went from a 32HH to a 32E cup size after going under the knife in June. Loving her new look, mother-of-one Rhian continued to display the incredible results on social media. Sharing before and after videos of her breasts pre and post surgery, Rhian looked incredibly confident and happy with the results. She wrote: 'Love love love my boobs. No implants, just a reduction and uplift by the amazing Dr Hussain @pallmallcosmetics❤️' In a clip posted on social media before going under the knife, Rhian revealed her nipples were in fact 11cm lower than they should have been after 'gravity took its toll' following the birth of her son George, one. She said: 'I'm a bit paranoid about that and I just can't to wait to have them a bit smaller, perkier, uplifted, it's so exciting.' Rhian continued: 'My cup size at the minute is a 34GG, I can fit into a H, and it's just so difficult to buy a decent bra these days. 'Bikinis, I can't even find one to get into because my frame is so small and my boobs are so big so it's quite difficult. My back ache, ugh, honestly I must have to get a massage like once a week to try and ease the pain and tension in my back. 'I swim a hell of a lot and I think because my boobs are so big, when I swim my back arches up because they push out the water. 'So even swimming is difficult for me at the moment, not to mention not being able to get into a swimsuit. Having this reduction is literally going to change my life.' Despite Rhian being happier than ever with her new figure, she revealed she had been inundated with messages from trolls criticising her decision. In an Instagram Story that expired, she hit back at her critics as she revealed she had no concern with scarring and that she couldn't understand why anyone felt the need to comment on her decision. She added in a cheeky quip that the comments were coming from men who were 'never going to touch or be near her breasts', so it didn't concern her. Rhian pictured before going under the knife, with her cup size a 32HH, which she said led to back pains as well as stress finding outfits that would fit her perfectly Giving an update to Instagram earlier this month post surgery, Rhian revealed how she has already improved her swimming due to her much more 'streamlined' figure. Posing for a selfie in a yellow cami, Rhian said she had 'never felt happier' and was feeling much more confident. While Rhian previously shared how her husband Oliver Mellor was ' gutted' over her breast reduction, he's now comparing her to Pamela Anderson. Speaking to The Sun post-op, she beamed: 'Oliver was a bit nervous at first because he likes big boobs and he was worried about the scarring. 'But he can't believe how well they've turned out. He's very pleased with them. He says I look like Pammy (Anderson) again because they're so perky. 'They look good and they're still a good size. A decent handful for him.'

Breakingviews - Influencers have defences against an AI onslaught

LONDON, Aug 20 (Reuters Breakingviews) - Turns out there is in fact something less real than a TikTok or YouTube influencer's carefully curated life: one that doesn't exist at all. Hyperreal digital personas created by artificial intelligence are muscling into the market in which brands pay $11 billion annually to the famous and not-so-famous to raise awareness of their wares. That's a problem for the humans, but maybe not an insuperable one. So-called 'AI influencers' are developed by teams using tools such as AI text-to-video generation developed by Adobe (ADBE.O), opens new tab or Google. One example is Yuri, opens new tab, a virtual singer created by a Chinese artist named Hanqing, who racked up 7 million streams after her debut and is involved in a planned marketing campaign by The North Face, the outdoor clothing brand owned by $5 billion VF Corp (VFC.N), opens new tab. Hanqing choreographs her lifestyle and interactions – just like she's a real star. Compared to humans, digital talent is cheaper. A collaboration with an AI influencer, which includes a video, a few posts, and Instagram stories, can cost as little as $4,000, Lauren Hannifan of AI influencer agency Pixel reckons. A real-world influencer with 100,000 followers could cost more than twice that. For brands, the appeal goes beyond cost: AI avatars don't have mood swings, agency disputes, or off-topic opinions. Companies can even co-create characters with studios, to retain full control over tone and message. This is bad news for human influencers, opens new tab like Khaby Lame and Charli D'Amelio, who are already seeing consumer brands spending less aggressively. U.S. influencers' revenue growth is set to slow to 15% this year, down from 24% last year, according to eMarketer estimates. A McKinsey survey found, opens new tab 68% of global fashion consumers are unhappy with the saturation of sponsored posts, and turn less frequently to influencers than a few years ago. If audiences can't tell the difference between AI and human, or worse stop caring, things will deteriorate further. Still, human influencers have some cause for comfort. High-quality avatars demand serious upfront investment – as much as eight months of unpaid development to build, train and test, according to The Clueless, the agency behind Aitana Lopez, a pink-haired virtual fitness model who now earns over $1,100 per advertisement. The perfect control enabled by AI may also come at the cost of credibility. Too much polish can repel audiences. And given over 50% of Gen Z and younger generations already dislike engaging with AI-generated influencers, according to a YouGov survey, opens new tab of U.S. consumers, a belated audience realisation that an assumed human influencer is actually AI may destroy rather than bolster brand value. 'Even real idols have a designed personality,' Yuri mused in one of her videos. That may be true – but it doesn't mean AI types like her will have everything to themselves.
