We want to retain our Premiership status not sell it, says Orbit coach

Orbit College head coach Pogiso Makhoye has made it clear that the club's main goal in their debut season in the top flight is to secure their Premiership status by the end of the campaign. Orbit were one of two teams from the NFD Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) to earn promotion to the Premiership.
Their journey to the top came through sheer determination, having edged out two tough opponents—Casric Stars and Cape Town City—in the promotion play-offs.
Now, with their eyes set on competing at the highest level, Makhoye believes that sticking to what already works is the best approach.

The Mswenko Boys clinched the PSL promotion/relegation play-offs at their first attempt after finishing second in the league, five points behind champions Durban City. After ending the 2023/24 season in ninth place, Orbit had set a top-three target for the following campaign—a goal they successfully achieved.
As they prepare for life in the Premiership, Makhoye emphasised that their immediate aim is to survive the drop.
'We want to save our status and remain in the Premiership,' Makhoye told Independent Newspapers.
The long-serving coach, who has been with the club since its inception, confirmed he will remain in charge. He stated that much of what the team has been doing will stay unchanged despite the promotion.
'Nothing changes; we have beaten a PSL team, and the training will remain the same. We have been running this team professionally since the ABC Motsepe League.
'It's only the league that changes, and we are just happy that we have moved from the NFD to the Premier League.
'Nothing will change; the same players who promoted us will compete in the Premiership. We proved it when we played against Cape Town City.
'We have also played friendly games with Premiership teams—Sekhukhune United, Orlando Pirates, and Mamelodi Sundowns. We will have the same players, coach, technical team, and stadium.'
Orbit are currently on a short break following a demanding play-off schedule and are expected to resume training in the coming week. They have already moved swiftly to secure the services of former midfielder Monnapule Saleng on loan from Pirates.
The club's promotion marks the return of top-flight football to the North West province for the first time since the relegation of Platinum Stars. Makhoye expressed pride in giving local fans a chance to experience elite football close to home.
'We are used to the feeling of being a professional side in the province,' Makhoye continued.
'At least for the past two years we have known that we are a professional team, so this will not be new to us—even in our thinking.
'It is just about changing the league, but they are all governed by the PSL; we just have to remain humble.
'We want to ensure that we retain our status and remain in the league, as we did in the MFC.
'We will also bring top-flight games to the North West province because many people wanted to see Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates, and Sundowns coming to the province. So we are happy and proud of ourselves.'

Thembinkosi Lorch faces Sundowns exit after missing pre-season
Thembinkosi Lorch appears to have no future at Mamelodi Sundowns, with sources indicating the former PSL Footballer of the Season is not part of head coach Miguel Cardoso's plans. The Citizen reports that Lorch was among the first casualties following Cardoso's arrival last December, having been loaned to Wydad Casablanca just a month later. Rushine de Reuck also departed during the same window, joining Israeli side Maccabi Petah Tikva on loan. Lorch impressed during his stint at Wydad, particularly with his performances at the Fifa Club World Cup, sparking speculation that he could be reintegrated into the Sundowns setup. However, Phakaaathi understands that Cardoso remains unconvinced and is looking to move in a different direction. The 32-year-old failed to report for pre-season, prompting the Sundowns hierarchy to explore possible exit options. Having signed from Orlando Pirates in a high-profile switch in January 2024, Lorch's move to Chloorkop has ultimately failed to live up to expectations. He is currently training on his own while plotting his next move, believed to be in North Africa. Cardoso, who has consistently expressed a preference for a smaller squad, has already approved De Reuck's switch to Simba SC in Tanzania. Lorch is expected to be the next to leave as Sundowns continue to trim their squad for the new season, with other big-name players also expected to depart the Chloorkop-based side.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso addresses player futures amid MTN8 success
Reigning PSL Player of teh Year Lucas Ribeiro of Mamelodi Sundowns' was notably absent from the Brazilians' 4-0 mauling of Richards Bay on Sunday in the MTN8. Photo: BackpagePix Image: Backpagepix Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has remained diplomatic amid growing uncertainty surrounding the futures of key players Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Peter Shalulile and Khuliso Mudau following their absence from Sunday's MTN8 quarter-final clash. The Brazilians powered their way into the semi-finals with a commanding 4-0 win over Richards Bay at Lucas Moripe Stadium. A brace from Iqraam Rayners, a stunner from teenage prodigy Siyabonga Mabena, and a deflected own goal by Simphiwe Mcineka, ensured Downs continued their winning start under the Portuguese tactician. Their reward? A two-legged semi-final tie against fierce rivals Orlando Pirates, with Stellenbosch and Sekhukhune United set to contest the other side of the draw. But despite the emphatic display, much of the post-match discussion centred around the notable omissions from the matchday squad. Shalulile, Ribeiro and Mudau were all missing, sparking speculation amid ongoing reports linking the trio with moves away from Chloorkop. Lucas Ribeiro must go if their is a good offer for him He gave us a solid two seasons He deserves it The show must go on We are Mamelodi Sundowns!! — Sandile Dhlomo (@DhlomoV) July 28, 2025 Video Player is loading. Shalulile, meanwhile, is said to be in negotiations with Tunisian giants Esperance, while Mudau has yet to commit to a new contract with the defending champions. Cardoso, however, opted for a composed response when questioned on the matter. 'All those things are being sorted out by the club and I'm sure they will be public in proper time,' Cardoso said, after the game. 'I understand what's happening with Lucas, Peter, or Thapelo Morena, who was not here because he had a small injury. But as a coach, I would want to have the team as complete as possible, and all coaches want to receive reinforcements for the new season as quickly as possible.' With Downs already juggling a busy start to the season, Cardoso acknowledged the reality of player movement — but made it clear the standard at Chloorkop will not drop, regardless of who's available. No Ribeiro, No Shalulile, No Mudau.... A bit shocking if you ask me... — Sahil Ebrahim (@sahil_e_) August 3, 2025
