There are only 4 remaining naturally-aspirated V8 sports cars left in 2025

Yahoo09-02-2025

The V8 engine is becoming more of a rarity in the automotive industry, and it's not because owners don't adore them. Their sonorous roar and gutsy power are enticing, but the V8 is in its sunset years primarily because of increasingly strict fuel economy regulations. Manufacturers are opting to sub them out for six-cylinder or even turbo fours because V8s generally have significantly lower gas mileage.
In some cases, the difference in MPGs isn't huge, but even a few miles per gallon of improvement can swing perceptions from negative to positive. The rise of electrification in the auto industry has further contributed to the demise of the V8 engine.
The V8 still exists in larger pickup trucks and SUVs, but those are dying, too. The V8 Toyota Land Cruiser, V8 Ram 1500, and V8 Mercedes-Benz G550 are all gone. There's even more devastation for passenger cars, with the Chevy Camaro and the Dodge Challenger/Charger also being dead as a doornail. But take heart because there are still a few left, and they're naturally aspirated, too. This means there's no forced induction mechanism anywhere to be found, so you get an undistilled V8 experience that's basically now an automotive unicorn. If you've ever dreamed of owning a V8 without turbochargers, hybrid assist, or electrification, that time is now. The likelihood that more naturally aspirated V8 cars will enter the fray is not very high. Here are the last naturally aspirated V8 cars before they disappear forever.
The Ford Mustang is the last gas muscle car standing now that Chevy and Dodge have abandoned their models. The fourth-generation 5.0-liter Ti-VCT V8 engine, known as the "Coyote," delivers an impressive 480 horsepower that makes it a pure delight to wring out. Even with advanced driving technology and a totally reworked interior, there's no mistaking this for anything but pure red-blooded American muscle.

The Mustang GT comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, as it should. Buyers can also choose a 10-speed automatic transmission, but that would dilute the experience. Regardless of which transmission you choose, the burly V8 engine that rumbles beneath the long hood should awaken anyone behind the wheel.
Upgrade to the more powerful Dark Horse, and you'll get a modified V8 that churns out 500 horsepower and 418 lb-ft of torque thanks to strengthened internal components, an improved intake system, and optimized engine tuning. The first mid-engined Corvette is a marvel. Nothing at this price thrills the way the C8 Corvette does, and it goes up against performance cars costing twice the price. Now that it's configured much like Ferraris and Lamborghinis, with the engine parked in the back, you'd be hard-pressed to think it wasn't an Italian supercar when you spot it coming out of the corner of your eye.

In terms of performance, it beats everything else within arm's reach of its rather modest $68,300 base price. Behind the seats lies a 6.2-liter LT2 V8 engine that's good for a potent 490 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. Add the performance exhaust option, and that number jumps to 495 horses and 470 lb-ft.
Mash the throttle, and 60 mph arrives in a scant 2.8 seconds. There's no more 7-speed manual transmission option like there was with the C7, but the rapid-fire 8-speed dual-clutch transmission makes quick work of gear changes. This, folks, is a supercar for the everyman, and it's worth every penny.
Lexus recently made the painful announcement that the V8-powered 2025 Lexus RC F will be the last, along with its less powerful RC brother. Hardly anyone bought them, and that's too bad. The rakish 2+2 performance rear-wheel drive grand tourer is powered by a sonorous naturally-aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 472 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. It might not be the quickest sports car out there, getting to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, but it's wonderful to listen to the engine under full throttle. The 2025 model year says goodbye with the RC F Final Edition for $94,000. This last hurrah model has carbon-fiber bodywork, red brake calipers, an active rear wing, special interior colors, and a Final Edition interior theme with a numbered plaque. Every RC F comes with F-tuned Adaptive Variable Suspension, 19-inch BBS split-5-spoke lightweight forged aluminum wheels, and sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires.
Is there a luxury coupe that looks and feels anything like the 2025 Lexus LC 500? We think not. It's far more special than its competitors, thanks to a truly unique interior and exterior design that make it like a rolling modern jazz lounge. But don't be distracted by its beauty without noticing the aural and tactile delights delivered by the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 engine under the hood. It's the same one found in the RC F, this time delivering 471 horsepower and 398 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 comes in 4.4 seconds, a tad slower than its RC F brother but no less delightful to experience.

You can also spend a few thousand more to get the Bespoke model that offers Sport seats, a glass or carbon fiber roof, a speed-sensitive rear wing, special dark trim, white and blue semi-aniline leather, and your choice of three different wheel styles. What doesn't change is that wonderful V8 engine that will send shivers down your spine every time you get on the gas. With the pervasiveness of turbocharging, hybrid assistance, or full electrification, the days of the naturally aspirated V8-powered car are numbered. They were once the gold standard for performance, driving thrills, and reliability, with an unmistakable sound to boot.
Even if it must bow to the power of forced induction or hybridized versions, it's the one the purists delight in. If you want a pure, mechanical driving experience, these last NA V8 cars might just be your final opportunity.

Verstappen seeks record fourth Canada win and trouble-free weekend

Max Verstappen is on the cusp of a ban after driving into George Russell in Spain (Pierre-Philippe MARCOU) Max Verstappen will be seeking a record fourth consecutive Canadian Grand Prix triumph this weekend and a trouble-free race that helps him banish the threat of a suspension following his "rash" moment in Spain. The four-time world champion goes into Sunday's race knowing that, if he collects one more penalty point on his racing license, he will automatically miss the Austrian Grand Prix later this month. Advertisement That, according to his great mentor, Red Bull consultant Helmut Marko, "would be a catastrophe". "He mustn't do anything wrong over the next two weekends and, of course, he will be told not to do anything rash," the Austrian told The 27-year-old, who lies third in the drivers' championship with 137 points, behind leader Oscar Piastri on 186 and his McLaren team-mate Lando Norris on 176, was penalised at the Spanish Grand Prix for ramming into George Russell's Mercedes. "He admitted it was a deliberate action that "should not have happened" following the race, won with supreme self-control by Piastri, but now must survive two Grands Prix without incident before the points total on his license is reduced. Advertisement "Barcelona was disappointing for us," admitted Verstappen. "Although we gave it everything, it was not the way we would have liked the race to turn out... "We are looking forward to Canada –- the track is unique, has some old school kerbs and plenty of opportunities for overtaking." For Verstappen, the return to a high-speed circuit where brakes are tested to the limit may be welcome as he and Red Bull seek to slow runaway leaders McLaren in the title race. - Winless Mercedes - Mercedes and Ferrari will also hope for encouragement at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve where a big crowd is likely to give home hope Lance Stroll support as he returns after a medical procedure to reduce wrist and hand pain. Advertisement Mercedes technical boss James Allison said: "It's a track where we've tended to go well in the past and I'm looking forward to it. We have a few new bits to take and we'll see how we get on." The Silver Arrows are winless since the Las Vegas Grand Prix last year while McLaren, remarkably given their current supremacy, have not won in Canada since 2012 when seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton claimed one of his seven wins at the venue, a record that he shares with Michael Schumacher. Ferrari, always well-supported by the knowledgeable and passionate crowd, last won in Montreal in 2018, but will need a swing in fortune to secure another success, although the circuit has always been a favourite for Hamilton, who claimed his maiden win there in 2007. However, Hamilton arrives in Canada without a single podium finish this year and in need of a boost as he struggles with his car amid much paddock debate about the wisdom of his decision to leave Mercedes, where he won six of his seven world titles. Advertisement For the 40-year-old Briton, it is not yet a crisis –- he retains total support from Ferrari and team boss Fred Vasseur –- but after nine of the 24 races this year, a long way from being a success. The American Haas team will mark their 200th race by switching to a grey livery that recalls their original colours in 2016. str/jc

Undisguised Corvette 'Zora' Looks Just Like a ZR1, Except For One Dead Giveaway

Chevy is on a roll with the Corvette right now. The company just launched the ZR1, a 1,064-horsepower fire-breather with more performance than cars triple the price. But that car likely won't be the very top of the Corvette range, at least judging by these spy shots out of Germany. Our spy photographers caught what they believe to be the upcoming Corvette "Zora" lapping the Nürburgring during a recent test session. The long-rumored trim, set to sit above the already-capable ZR1, will likely take the platform to its ultimate conclusion in terms of performance. The Ultimate Corvette Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography What does that mean, exactly? Years of rumors have pointed to the Zora as combining the ZR1's 5.5-liter, 1,064-hp twin-turbo V-8 with the electric motor from the Corvette E-Ray , for an all-wheel drive, mid-engine weapon with hypercar-rivaling performance. In the E-Ray, that e-motor makes 160 hp. So combined, we're looking at at least 1,224 horses. That's just an educated guess right now, though. It could make even more. The extra power and AWD traction should make for even more impressive 0-60 times and lateral performance. Going by these photos, it seems the Zora will likely share most of its aero-laden bodywork with the ZR1. With the optional aero package, which adds a series of carbon-fiber wings, the ZR1 can produce over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. How Do You Know These Are Zoras? Photo by: KGP Photography The differences are subtle, but obvious if you know where to look. The biggest giveaway is the yellow stickers on the rear windows—mandatory for hybridized cars testing on the Nürburgring. That raises some questions, seeing as how the ZR1 isn't a hybrid. Look even closer, and there are further hints that these cars are more than just ZR1s. As our spy photographers point out, these prototypes are running an extra vertically slotted radiator, seen mounted behind the driver-side grille in the bumper. That radiator isn't present on the production ZR1, and on the E-Ray, it's used to cool the electric motor. Why would it be here, except to do the same? When Will Chevy Reveal the Zora, and How Much Will It Cost? Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Photo by: KGP Photography Chevrolet has been tight-lipped on the Zora's existence, meaning no official reveal date has been set. But seeing as how these near-production-ready prototypes are out and about, we can't imagine we'll have to wait much longer to see a full unveiling. Pricing for the Corvette Zora is, unsurprisingly, a mystery at this time. But we can make an educated guess based on what we already know. The ZR1 starts at $174,995 including destination. Add in $38,600—the difference between a Corvette Stingray and an E-Ray—and you get $213,595. If that sounds like a lot of money for a Corvette, well, it is. But the Zora will likely have the performance to match cars priced over $1 million, making it a relative bargain in the world of hypercars. That's the Corvette's entire ethos, after all. Dodge Challenger Pummels Porsche 911 GT3 RS in Soaking Wet Track Day Crash

The latest car news, reviews, and features. Social media algorithms feed us so many wild car crash videos that it's almost impossible to be shocked by anything nowadays. Whether it's Ford Mustangs careening into crowds or Ferrari F40s catching on fire, we're pretty much used to it all. But then you come across footage of a Dodge Challenger Scat Pack crashing into a Porsche GT3 RS, and it makes you go, 'What?' And that's before you learn that it happened in Europe. This YouTube video shared by Carspotter Jeroen was filmed at the famous TT Circuit Assen in the Netherlands during last weekend's SuperCar Assen 2025. Judging by the event's website, the weekend features racing, a car show, a marketplace, a track day, and a big party rolled into one shindig. As it's typical in that region, heavy rain moved into the area during Sunday's track session, but surprisingly (or perhaps unsurprisingly for some hardcore track rats), it did not bring out a red flag. You can see two Porsche GT3 RSs—one, silver and black, and another, white and green—leaving the paddock while the track surface is still very, very wet. Later on, we get to see these same cars coming around the main straight with an orange Challenger in tow (still wearing the yellow splitter guard, of course). At this point, the straightaway is still wet but not quite as soaked as other areas of the track, at least from what we can see in the various angles of the video. There's no way to tell how the real timeline of events actually happened, but just 60 seconds into the video, it becomes obvious that weather conditions have taken a major turn for the worse, and rain is coming down quite hard. However, cars are still lapping, and everyone seems to be handling it well for the most part… until the 2:20 mark. At this point, two different POVs come into frame, reportedly taken by Lena_Pink_RS7 and 026_Automotive from the grandstands along the main straight. The silver Porsche we'd seen before enters as it's making its way to the first corner, when the driver suddenly loses control (likely due to hydroplaning) and the rear end snaps left. While I can't see the entire sequence of events, this other angle found on Instagram shows that the Porsche driver did a good-enough job controlling the spin and limiting damage to his car. It definitely touches the wall, but the car doesn't appear to be heavily damaged by the time it comes to a halt. That didn't matter, of course, because just a few seconds later, a 4,300-pound American tank smashed into the Porsche and sandwiched it against the wall. The heavy damage can be seen in detail around the 3:00 mark, after the session is red-flagged and an ambulance arrives at the scene of the crash. The Porsche driver can be seen walking around his car, though the Dodge driver isn't shown in the footage. Why did race control not stop the session before all the chaos ensued? I have no idea, especially at one of Europe's flagship tracks, which currently hosts MotoGP and other major series. While some enthusiasts love to track their cars in all kinds of environments, it was obvious that the track was flooded in some areas, and no specialty tire can save you from that much standing water—even if you're a talented driver. Plus, my guess is that these recreational track drivers didn't exactly bring extreme wets for their half-hour outing. Overall, this expensive and regrettable crash could've easily been avoided, but what's done is done. Hope everyone is okay. Got a tip? Email us at tips@
