Johnny Depp could be setting sail again as Captain Jack Sparrow, according to Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Bruckheimer, 80 – who has been behind major hit movies including Armageddon, Top Gun, Con Air and the Bad Boys films with Will Smith and Martin Lawrence -recently revealed that discussions have taken place about the actor's return to the franchise, despite earlier reports to the contrary.
In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Bruckheimer confirmed that development on the next installment of the blockbuster Disney franchise is moving forward, with a screenplay currently in development.
He said Depp's participation would ultimately depend on how the character is written.
'If he likes the way the part's written, I think he would do it,' Bruckheimer explained, noting that the script is still being refined.
'It's all about what's on the page, as we all know… We want to make it. We just got to get the right screenplay. We haven't quite gotten there yet, but we're close.'

The producer called Depp 'a good friend'(Picture:)
After a series of vague updates in recent years, Bruckheimer previously shared that new Pirates films will feature a fresh cast – with no mention of Depp.
This may or may not chime with talk in 2022 of a female-led take with Barbie star Margot Robbie.
Fans who were appalled by the implication that Depp wouldn't return are almost certainly thrilled by this latest update.
The last Pirates outing, 2017's Dead Men Tell No Tales, saw Depp reprise his iconic role alongside franchise veterans Geoffrey Rush, Orlando Bloom, and Keira Knightley.
It remains to be seen which members of the original cast end up appearing in the reboot (Picture: Greg Gorman/Walt Disney/Kobal/REX/Shutterstock)
While the planned sixth film is being described as a reboot, Bruckheimer has made it clear he would like to see Sparrow make at least a cameo appearance.
'It's a reboot, but if it was up to me, he would be in it,' Bruckheimer told the magazine.
'I love him. He's a good friend. He's an amazing artist, and he's a unique look. He created Captain Jack… that was his interpretation. It wasn't on the page — he came up with that blend of Pepé Le Pew and Keith Richards.'
The producer also revealed that Jeff Nathanson, who wrote Dead Men Tell No Tales, is once again behind the script for the upcoming film.

According to Bruckheimer, Nathanson has already 'cracked' the story's ending.
'He's got an amazing third act,' Bruckheimer said. 'We just gotta clean up the first and second, and then we'll get there. But he wrote a great, great third act.'
Although Disney has not officially announced a release date or confirmed casting, the prospect of Depp returning as the rum-loving pirate will likely excite fans who have campaigned for his comeback in recent years.
For now, Bruckheimer says the team's priority is perfecting the script – but the door to the Black Pearl appears to be wide open for Captain Jack Sparrow.

Dad visits Disney World and issues brutal verdict – but fans spot big mistake

Walt Disney World Resort, Florida is a family favourite, but social influencer Alex Dobson has dropped a video expressing his thoughts on the park - and it's gone viral in just a day With the summer holidays in full swing, many families will be embarking on vacations, whether that's abroad or as part of a staycation. Some of those seasonal revellers will be lucky enough to be visiting 'Mickey's House', AKA, Walt Disney World Resort, Florida. ‌ It's estimated that just under 1 million UK visitors travel to Orlando annually, with 80% of those visiting 'the most magical place of earth'. However, while Disney World and Disney Land are widely loved by children and held with a fierce nostalgia by many parents (and non-parents), the reality can sometimes prove to be less than dreamy. ‌ What's more, one viral video recently popped the Mickey-ears shaped bubble with one deft swipe. Alex Dodman is a social influencer with roughly 450,000 followers across TikTok and Instagram. ‌ The father-of-three is famous for his 'real reviews' of family days out, attractions and holidays, as well as viral trends and cultural events - and now his spotlight is firmly on the Disney resort. Opening the review with a wry, "It's almost like we've been programmed to think that this is the most magical place on earth", while filming a motorway gantry leading into the theme park that proclaims the very same, Alex boldly claims that "it's probably the most overpriced tourist p**stakes in history". As many a parent who's been through the Disney World machine will attest to, the resort is not cheap. A Disney World holiday for a family of four from the UK, including flights, can range from around £6,500 to £15,000 or more, depending on the various packages. And the repeated financial roundhouse kicks are not entirely conducive to a happy holiday between married people, either, with Alex saying it's likely they're going to "pretend they're having a good time posting about it online, when in reality they've probably argued about 1,000 times, been on the brink of divorce, and each child has had an overstimulated meltdown every half an hour". ‌ According to the influencer: "A ticket to get in here for the day for two adults, two kids and a baby was $709 and because I actually wanted the kids to go on a ride this time, I got some lightning Lane tickets for three rides for an extra $136... How is this even allowed?" 'Main Street', the thoroughfare with full view of the Disney Castle, is one to swerve, says Alex. Not impressed with people that "pretended to cry when they first saw the castle", he cracked on to the rides - saying that "having some lightning Lane tickets did work well". ‌ He was less than impressed with the rides themselves, saying the 'Barnstormer' "lasted for 25 seconds", 'Peter Pan's Flight' was "basically pitch black" and 'It's a Small World' was "everyone's favourite nightmare". Conceding that he did understand why "this place is some people's happy place", Alex reflected that the 'trap' may lie in the fact that Brits have travelled all the way to Orlando. ‌ For that reason, it's tempting to give in to the cost to embrace a "once in a lifetime" trip. However, he went on to say that: "There's no way you can enjoy this without having in the back of the mind how utterly screwed you're being done by Disney". Summing up, Alex considered the pay off of such a pricey trip, saying: "Did the kids enjoy it? Yeah. But we also went to Clearwater Beach for the weekend, and they said they had a better time jumping in the sea there, which was free". He added: "However you chop it up, it's way too expensive." ‌ Comments to the video were mixed, with some wholeheartedly agreeing and others fiercely defending the place that they deeply love. Many pointed out that Alex's big mistake was not booking park hopper tickets that make the experience a whole lot more affordable. Doing more research could have helped him to avoid the busiest queues, too. ‌ One follower helpfully supplied: "Yeah, feels like you need so much insider knowledge to not be stung so much with Disney. Park hopper tickets are a better and cheaper option. Staying at Disney property helps for costs with parking for free and dining plans." Another person was keen to help too, saying: "Disney World takes a lot of research to do it well and paying for lightning lanes on these type of rides shows you didn't complete basic training in Disney world trip planning. I think it's to do with having really little kids too it's so much fun in the bigger better rides with older kids". One poster was relived that they weren't missing out, saying: "Thank you for blessing us poor who can't get there that we aren't depriving our kids and ourselves of the most magical experience on earth". And one full-blown fan was clear where her loyalty lay, expressing: "I'm in the Disney cult. Please don't save me if I blink. They can take my hard earned cash from me so I can walk down that busy street, get tears in my eyes and reminisce of days gone by. "

Sabrina Carpenter reacts to being on title track for Taylor Swift's new album after idolizing her as a child

Sabrina Carpenter offered her reaction to being a feature on the titular track for Taylor Swift 's upcoming album The Life Of A Showgirl. The 26-year-old Espresso songstress - who had idolized the Grammy winner as a child - jumped to her Instagram stories on Wednesday to express her excitement over being including on Taylor's 12th studio album. Taylor sent fans into a frenzy this week when she announced that new music was on the way on her boyfriend Travis Kelce 's New Heights podcast. She later unveiled the very sexy cover art for the album - which is slated to be released later this year on October 3. Taylor also gave fans a glimpse at the track list and revealed that Sabrina features on the titular song. The former Disney channel star reposted an image of the 12 tracks and penned, 'THE LIFE OF A SHOWGIRL OCTOBER 3. i know someone who's freaking out and it's me.' She shared another slide that included a photo of the pair performing on stage during Taylor's Eras Tour. Lastly, Sabrina further supported her close pal by uploading another accompanying album image and wrote, 'must also point out that.' The Bad Blood singer could be seen wearing a flashy showgirl costume that comprised of a diamond-encrusted bralette top and matching headpiece. The outfit also contained fuzzy embellishments for a final touch. Before Sabrina developed a friendly bond with Taylor, she was first a big fan of the performer. Back in 2009, the Girl Meets World actress uploaded her first YouTube video which showed her covering Taylor's song Picture To Burn. A fan account of the Please Please Please songstress shared a post on X on Wednesday that showed Sabrina's cover of Taylor's 2006 track alongside the announcement that she will feature on Taylor's upcoming album. Over the years, the two music artists have been spotted hanging out at star-studded events and grabbing dinner together. During an interview with Rolling Stone in 2023, Sabrina gushed about Taylor and said, 'Watching her is a masterclass in itself.' She added, 'Obviously, she's very good with words. So I feel a lot more comfortable that I'm going into a situation with someone that I admire so much and I'm just gonna like study.' That same year, Sabrina opened for Taylor during the singer's sold-out Eras Tour and previously called the moment 'a dream come true.' In February 2024, the Espresso hitmaker joined Taylor on stage in Sydney, Australia as they performed together. They reunited on stage once again later that same year in New Orleans. Taylor has also shared her public support for Sabrina and encouraged fans to listen to the singer's Short n' Sweet album which dropped last year. Taylor received the same support from Sabrina after she unveiled the cover for her highly-anticipated new album The Life Of A Showgirl. The 14-time Grammy Award-winning singer first dropped the news about her 12th studio album earlier this week while teasing her upcoming appearance on her boyfriend's New Heights podcast. And on Wednesday, just minutes after her New Heights episode premiered, Taylor revealed the official album cover for The Life Of A Showgirl, which is currently available for preorder on her website. She confirmed that the album will be released on October 3 - just over a year and a half after the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department. Taylor also revealed the album's official 12-song track list, confirming the inclusion of the song, Ruin The Friendship, which fans are convinced is a Blake Lively diss track. 'And, baby, that's show business for you. New album The Life of a Showgirl. Out October 3 ❤️‍,' Swift tweeted to fans on X (formerly Twitter). Proving to be her sexiest album cover yet, Taylor flashes the flesh in a skimpy green jeweled bodysuit while submerged in water in what appeared to be a bathtub. The album's cover art has a collage-like look as cropped, close-up photos of Taylor's bedazzled body are used as a border. 'The Life Of A Showgirl' is spelled out in glittery orange lettering. The busty starlet stares stoically at the camera in the striking image captured by famed photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, who she last worked with on the album artwork for her 2017 album Reputation. 'I loved what they did with those photos, so I called them up for [this album],' she shared on the New Heights podcast. 'I am so happy with the way the photos came out with this one.' She said she wanted to go 'all out' on the imagery for The Life Of A Showgirl because she is 'so proud' of the music. 'This is a full send. I care about this record more than I can even overstate.' Taylor revealed that the album cover is meant to depict what the 'end of [her] night' looks like on tour. 'My day ends with me in a bathtub - not usually in a bedazzled dress - but we try to keep it decent,' she joked. 'I wanted to glamorize all the different aspects of how [the Eras Tour] felt and [the The Life Of A Showgirl cover] is how that felt at the end of the night.' Taylor said she chose that image because it best represents the album, which centers around the feelings and experiences in her 'offstage' life. As revealed by Swift, the album's song titles are: The Fate Of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor, Opalite, Father Figure, Eldest Daughter, Ruin The Friendship, Actually Romantic, Wi$h Li$t, Wood, CANCELLED!, Honey and The Life Of A Showgirl. According to Swift's website, there are a total of four deluxe album variants that fans can purchase - all of which feature different cover photos of Swift and cost $17.99. A $29.99 vinyl, a $12.99 CD with a poster and a $19.99 cassette tape featuring the album's official album cover are also available for purchase. Other artwork for the album, all shot by Alas and Piggott, was also shared with fans on Wednesday. The Life Of A Showgirl marks a major musical departure for Taylor as it is her first album in over a decade that will not feature production by her go-to collaborator and co-songwriter, Jack Antonoff. Instead, she confirmed she co-produced her new album with pop music heavyweights, Max Martin and Shellback. Shortly before Max's involvement was confirmed, Taylor's eagle-eyed fans noticed that every song on the star's latest Spotify playlist, which included choice cuts from 1989, Reputation and Red, had been produced by Max. Max used to be a major collaborator with Taylor, but the two haven't worked together since recording music for Reputation, and Max was notably absent from the sessions to rerecord songs he had previously worked on with Taylor. During her appearance on the New Heights podcast on Wednesday, Taylor revealed that she recorded the new album while on her record-breaking Eras Tour, which ran from March 2023 to December 2024. The superstar said she made frequent trips to Sweden to work with producer Max Martin during her rare days off from performing around the globe. 'I would do like three shows in a row. I'd have three days off. I'd fly to Sweden, go back to the tour, and was actually working on this. 'I was physically exhausted at this point in the tour, but I was so mentally stimulated and so excited to be creating,' she explained. Travis, who was seated beside Taylor during the interview with his co-host and brother Jason Kelce, added: 'She was literally living the life of a showgirl.' 'That's why I called [the album] that. Nailed it,' the singer quipped as she playfully patted her boyfriend on the shoulder. Taylor read the entire 12-song track list for The Life Of A Showgirl aloud for listeners before revealing the 'significance' behind the era's orange color scheme and the 'theme' of the album.

Second MasterChef contestant edited out of series after BBC's decision to air despite John Torode & Gregg Wallace axings

CHEF OUT Second MasterChef contestant edited out of series after BBC's decision to air despite John Torode & Gregg Wallace axings Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A SECOND contestant has been edited out of the latest series of MasterChef following the scandal surrounding its former hosts. Sarah Shafi was the first contestant to pull out of the show after telling producers it shouldn't be aired. The episode which would have featured the unnamed contestant was broadcast on BBC One on Wednesday. But it only featured five chefs rather than the usual six, the BBC reported. Sarah, from Leeds, believed airing Masterchef would send the wrong message about what happens after women report misbehaviour by powerful men. The 57-year-old rejected an offer by MasterChef's producers Banijay to edit her out of her episode, wanting them to axe it entirely. She was "flabbergasted" by the suggestion, but agreed once it was announced the series would air. She told The Guardian: "I said: 'Axe the show, don't air the show. I'm asking you not to air the show.' "Prominent figures have been abusing their power. What message does that send out to women?" The former contestant said she didn't want to be part of a show with an "enabling environment". It was said to be "quite a heated conversation". A spokesperson for production company Banijay said: "One other contributor decided that given recent events they would like not to be included," the BBC reports. "We have of course accepted their wishes and edited them out of the show." The latest series of MasterChef was hit with controversy in the weeks leading up to its launch, with hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode being axed from presenting future series. However, the BBC ultimately decided to air series 21, which had already been filmed. The latest episode - the fourth in its run - saw five amateur cooks enter the kitchen, rather than the usual six. But the long shot of the group outside walking towards the kitchen was missing, and instead, the edit featured close ups of their faces or in pairs. Once inside, John and Gregg explained how two cooks would automatically go through to the next round after cooking their first dish. In a bizarre moment, contestant Hazel gave a thankful nod before looking to the side, but as far as viewers could see, there was no one on Hazel's left that she would need to acknowledge. A spokesperson for Banijay previously said: "As we said when we announced the show would be aired, this was not an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone would agree with it. "Banijay consulted with all the contestants before that decision was made and there was widespread support for it going ahead. "The focus of the series is the contestants, as it always is. "The edit has been looked at in light of the upheld findings." More to follow...
