Modern Family star, 53, reveals the weight-loss drug that helped him achieve dramatic slim down

Daily Mail02-05-2025

Eric Stonestreet is the latest celebrity to open up about using a GLP-1 weight loss drug.
On Thursday the 53-year-old Modern Family alum showed off his impressive weight-loss in a new Mounjaro campaign with his mother Jamey.
'My mom Jamey and I are proud to share our success stories with Mounjaro. We hope to inspire others to talk to their doctors to get the treatment they need,' he wrote in a joint Instagram post with the brand.
He said he used to think he was 'fairly' healthy aside from struggling to lose weight, but after he was diagnosed with diabetes in 2009, the actor said he was ashamed.
'I was embarrassed. I didn't want to tell anybody. I knew my mom and dad were both type 2 diabetics and didn't share it with them. If I was dating a person, I never shared that with them. I didn't tell my two best friends for a long time,' he revealed to People.
The diagnosis came right around the time he was cast as Cameron Tucker on Modern Family.
He recalled, 'It was like this crazy happy moment cut with this diagnosis that I truthfully didn't take very seriously.'
Eric opened up about how his doctor at the time neglected to provide any encouragement.
'I had a doctor that sent me on my way with a couple pills and said, "Take care." No inspiring moment of, "You need to seize the day and change this," which I guess technically isn't their responsibility, but I just didn't do anything about it,' he said.
He went on to say that he even hesitated to tell his now-fiancée Lindsay Schweitzer about his health early on in their relationship.
The Emmy-winning performer revealed: 'I would hide my injectables and my pills from her. I didn't want her to open the fridge and see something in there.'
Once he started seeing a team of doctors who stressed the gravity of his type 2 diabetes, he finally made a change.
Stonestreet thought of his dad, who suffered from 'very painful' diabetic neuropathy before his death.
Stonestreet said he used to think he was 'fairly' healthy aside from struggling to lose weight , but after he was diagnosed with diabetes in 2009, the actor said he was ashamed
Eric explained about his late father, 'He passed away from leukemia, but the thing that was the most painful for him was his diabetic neuropathy. And I just decided, well, I can't go down that road.'
While making a change to improve his health, the TV star also considered the 13-year-old twin boys he raises with his fiancée.
'They're her kids but I've known them since 3 so they're my kids as well,' he said about taking on parenthood. 'And just like every parent, I want to be around. So I just decided, I gotta stop this train from going that direction and reverse it a little bit as best I can.'
Stonestreet began taking weekly Mounjaro injections in May 2022 and has overhauled his health.
'It's a game changer,' he said about his experience, adding, 'It has just been incredible. It's changed my lifestyle, changed my approach to eating, changed my approach to exercise.'
The show ran for 11 seasons on ABC from 2009 to 2020; seen in 2020
Due to his success with the medication, he felt inclined to make lifestyle tweaks to keep up his results.
'I felt like, well, if I don't do something along with it, I'm disappointing it. I'm letting it down. Here these people have invented this incredible thing that clearly does its part. Now I need to contribute my part,' he reflected.
'It turns out that when you do that and make some really great choices, weight loss is also a byproduct of that,' the actor noted.
Stonestreet continued: 'I experienced a little weight loss. My mom, she lost a significant amount of weight in her experience with it, but I'm down quite a bit.'
Adding some more context, he shared: 'I kind of was at the same weight for many years, but then in the last year when I started to really contribute more to it, I've dropped substantial amount of weight.'
Now, he says there's 'a pep in my step,' which he notices during moments like when he's walking through the airport with luggage. 'I'm just lighter on my feet. It feels good. I mean, everyone's experienced that. You lose a couple pounds and you feel better.'

Edinburgh Fringe Hot Tickets 2025: Here are all 17 Edinburgh Comedy Award winners returning this year

With a over 3,300 shows to choose from across 265 venues at this year's feast of culture, there's something to be said for opting for performers who have a winning record – and there's no bigger prize in British comedy than the Edinburgh Comedy Award. Launched in 1981, the award is presented to the comedy show judged to have been the best at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and is recognised as the most prestigious comedy prize in the UK. Formerly known as the Perrier Award , it is designed to promote acts that have yet to become household names, so comedians judged to have 'star status' are not eligible - for instance if they have a show on a major television channel or can regularly fill a 500-set venue. The first winners were a talent-packed Cambridge Footlights featuring Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Tony Slattery and Emma Thompson, while other names catapulted to fame by the award over the years include Steve Coogan, Jenny Eclair, The League of Gentlemen, Dylan Moran, Al Murray, Tim Key, and Emmy -winning Baby Reindeer star Richard Gadd . A Best Newcomer Award was added in 1992, followed by a Panel Prize in 2006 - for those who have made a particularly special contribution to the Fringe Festival. Here are all 17 winners you can see in Edinburgh this year. 1 . Urooj Ashfaq Urooj Ashfaq won the Edinburgh Comedy Award for best Newcomer in 2023 for her show 'Oh No!', about "her, her family, things that annoy her, and things she loves". This year she's back with a new hour entitled 'How To Be A Baddie' in which she promises to be a "bona fide bad girl and edgelord who at times mentions sexy things and topics..." She's on at the Monkey Barrel from July 30-August 24. | Getty Images Photo Sales 2 . Jordan Brookes Officially the longest-reigning Edinburgh Comedy Award winner of all time (he won in 2019 before the global pandemic led to a three year break before the prize was awarded again), Jordan Brookes is back in Edinburgh with a work in progress show called 'Until The Wheels Come Off'. The only thing he guarantees is that he'll show up! See him at the Pleasance Courtyard from July 30-August 24. | Getty Images Photo Sales 3 . Lara Ricote Another former winner bringing a work in progress show to Edinburgh is Lara Ricote, who took home the Best Newcomer trophy in 2022 with her show 'GRL/LATNX/DEF'. She didn't even have an idea for a show when she had to submit a description for the Fringe programme, so we know nothing about it. Find out what she's up to at the Monkey Barrel from August 11-17. | Getty Images Photo Sales 4 . Adam Riches The Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist was particularly strong in 2011, including Andrew Maxwell, Chris Ramsey, Josie Long, Nick Helm and future winner Sam Simmon. But it was the character and sketch comedy of Adam Riches, in 'Bring Me the Head of Adam Riches' that most impressed the judges. The hugely-entertaining performer last year made the switch to the theatre section with a critically-acclaimed show about tennis player Jimmy Connors. This year he's back to comedy with a typically singular slant, namely "medieval heartstab Sean Bean is going to read 15th century Middle English tome Le Morte d'Arthur out loud, for an hour. That's it." Discover if that really is 'it' at the Monkey Barrel from August 11-13. | Getty Images Photo Sales

Advertisement 3 Shea Mannings and fitness influencer Remell Mullins arrived as bombshells Credit: Shutterstock Editorial 3 Shea is a semi-pro footballer and scaffolder Credit: Instagram 3 He has a son - a fact he says he won't be hiding in the villa Credit: instagram/@ Who is Shea Mannings? Shea Mannings is a 25-year-old Bristolian and will be one of the three new faces to be added to the villa in the same number of days since the show started, and will throw a new element of drama to the reality show. Before going on Love Island, he balanced two jobs, mainly working as a scaffolder day-to-day as well as playing football semi-professionally on the side. The 25-year-old has played for Swindon Supermarine FC since signing in 2024 and will be the third semi-pro baller in the villa this year after Dejon Noel-Williams and Harry Cooksley. In his career so far he has played for Southern League Division One South side Bristol Manor Farm in 2023, and before that he represented Ashton & Backwell in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division. Advertisement Alongside his two jobs, Shea has a son, who he will not be keeping a secret. Before entering the villa, he said: "I have a little boy, so I'll be taking him into consideration with who I couple up with, too.' While his Instagram bio says that he is 'off to find love in the Love Island Villa', what is Shea looking for in a potential coupling? He said: "She needs to be bubbly and we need to have that initial spark. She needs to have a nice personality - like I think I have - so that we match together.' Advertisement His Insta followers can often see him enjoying life in hotter climates and either working out or in action on the football pitch. And in comparison to some of his fellow Islanders, Shea is pretty quiet on social media, sharing only the highlights of his life and matches to his just over 6,000 followers. SECOND Love Islander is dumped in brutal bombshell recoupling What will Shea be like in the villa? Shea forms part of the two bombshell line-up with Remell Mullins and came into the villa just days after American pool party waitress Toni Laites shook up the villa on the first day. The Islanders were left stunned after Toni strutted into the villa and stole Shakira Khan's man, Ben Holbrough. Advertisement It meant Shakira had to find a new couple and in a shock twist caused the early exit of motivational speaker Sophie Lee after recoupling with Harry Cooksley. But with the arrival of Shea and Remell, it is the girls' time to be tempted and stray from their couples. Before entering the show Shea said: "I am ready again to look for something more serious. I'm 25 now, so I want to be settling down and have someone always by my side." A source told The Sun: "The two new boys are already in the villa and immedietely started turning heads. Advertisement "The OG lads thought they were safe but three bombshells in three days shows that producers aren't messing around." Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.

He deleted a post about flying a plane while listening to the Foo Fighters song Learn to Fly. 4 Tom Fletcher has apologised for an insensitive post shared on the day of the Air India crash Credit: Getty 4 The tail of the plane is seen hanging from the edge of a building after the crash in India Credit: Reuters 4 People stand near debris at the site of the plane crash On Thursday it was revealed that an Air India plane burst into a fireball while carrying 242 people, including 53 Brits, flying to London Gatwick airport. A British man miraculously survived the crash after jumping off the flaming jet and was filmed walking away from the wreckage. After reading the reports, McFly singer Tom, 38, wrote: "Sorry, I've only just seen the terrible news about the Air India crash. "So awful. Had I known earlier, I obviously wouldn't have posted about my flight today. The former Strictly Come Dancing star continued: "I understand why that must have looked insensitive and have deleted it. Thanks for letting me know. "My whole heart goes out to everyone involved in the crash and all their friends & families." Tom got his license to fly in 2008 when he was just 23 years old. He previously said he would have been a pilot if he wasn't in McFly. Tom apologised after Mark Wright was slammed for moaning about leg room on his flight after the tragic Air India crash. The former Towie star, 38, posted a snap of himself with wife Michelle Keegan and baby Palma posing in front of a private plane, as he moaned about the leg room on standard jets. Mark Wright slammed for 'poor taste' post about planes as 265 killed in horror Air India crash Appearing completely oblivious to the day's events, Mark wrote alongside it: '1 day babe, for now we'll take row 26 with no extra leg room.' His followers were quick to point out his lack of sensitivity, with one person commenting: 'Prob not the best day to post this when so many people lost their lives on a plane.' A second said: 'Not really appropriate to put this up after today's plane crash.' While a third wrote: 'Poor taste given today's event.' And a fourth added: 'What a time to choose to post this.' Radio DJ Mark has since deleted the post and blamed it on an admin error. He wrote: "I apologise for a post I just put up on my page after today's heartbreaking events. "I have posts from a holiday that are on the scheduled setting, which go out on future days I have set them for which was done last week. It's a horrendous coincidence that today's post was on such a devastating day. "Once I logged in to my Instagram and realised the post had gone out, I immediately deleted. My heart goes out to everyone who has been effected from today. I'm sorry for this mistake and any offence caused." At least 265 people were killed - including those on the plane and on the ground - when the Air India flight crashed into a hostel seconds after take off. According to flight tracking website Flightradar, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner's final signal was received just seconds after take-off. This was last logged at 1:38pm local time - less than a minute after it started the journey. King Charles II said he was "desperately shocked" by Thursday's air crash in India, sending "prayers and deepest possible sympathies" to the families of those affected. "My wife and I have been desperately shocked by the terrible events in Ahmedabad this morning," the monarch wrote on Instagram, calling it a "heartbreaking and traumatic time".
