Slum demolitions in Delhi: Cong. MP raises issue in Lok Sabha
Congress MP Manickam Tagore on Wednesday criticised the Delhi government, raising concern over the slum demolitions in the Capital during the Zero Hour of the Lok Sabha. This comes days after the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited areas where demolitions had taken place. Alleging that thousands of families were rendered homeless by the demolition of slums, he said it was being done in violation of existing policies of rehabilitation. On Sunday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assured that her government will ensure proper rehabilitation of 'eligible' slum dwellers displaced due to development projects.

The remark invited sharp criticism from his party colleagues, forcing Raju to clarify that his statement was misinterpreted. State govt reissues order: Sikh candidates can wear kada, kirpan
Chandigarh: Rajasthan's govt has reissued an order that Sikh candidates should be allowed to wear articles of faith during competitive examinations following outrage among the Sikh community after a baptised girl from Punjab was barred from a Jaipur exam centre as she was wearing a "kada" and "kirpan". In a letter issued July 29, Rajasthan's home department cited its 2019 circular and said, "Considering freedom of religion granted by the Constitution and the provisions described in the circular, as well as the interpretation provided by the Delhi high court, it is directed that Sikh candidates be allowed to wear religious symbols such as kada, kirpan, and turban, during various competitive examinations conducted by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, and other departments… while maintaining public order. " Last Sunday candidate Gurpreet Kaur, from Tarn Taran district, was turned away from an exam centre for Rajasthan Judicial Services recruitment as she was wearing her "kada" and "kirpan".
