Patna hospital murder case: Main accused among 4 arrested in Kolkata

Hans India6 days ago
Kolkata: The Patna Police, on Sunday, have shown as arrested four of the ten people, who were detained from two different places in Kolkata in connection with the murder of a gangster, Chandan Mishra, in a Patna hospital recently.
The four shown as arrested on Sunday by Patna Police include one of the prime accused, Tauseef a.k.a. Badshah, his associate Nishu Khan, and two others.
Ten people were detained from two different places in Kolkata, namely New Town in the northern outskirts of Kolkata and Anandapur in the southern outskirts of the city, on Saturday, following joint operations by Patna Police and the sleuths of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police.
The detained persons were taken to Patna on Saturday night.
Sources from Kolkata Police said that the murder of Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra was a result of his rivalry with another Bihar-based gangster, Sheroo, who is presently lodged in a correctional home in West Bengal's Purulia district.
It is suspected that Sheroo had masterminded the murder from the Purulia prison and hired Tauseef alias Badshah and his team as contract killers for the murder.
As per information accessed by the investigators so far, the ten detained people from Kolkata were directly involved in the murder of Chandan Kumar alias Chandan Mishra, a murder convict who was out on medical parole.
Mishra was shot dead by five armed assailants inside the ICU of a private hospital in Patna on July 17.
He was lodged at Beur Jail in Patna and had gone to the hospital for treatment on parole. At least 24 cases were pending against Mishra in several police stations of the Buxar district in Bihar. He was serving a sentence in one of those cases. According to the police, Mishra was killed a day before he was scheduled to be released from the hospital.

RG Kar Victim's Father Calls Aparajita Bill 'Deceptive,' Accuses Police Of Evidence Tampering

The father of the RG Kar rape and murder victim accused Kolkata Police of tampering with evidence and failing to act in his daughter's case, while reacting to the Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill. Speaking to ANI, he said, "... Kolkata Police did nothing in my daughter's case except for evidence tampering... There was no provision for evidence tampering in this bill. It will not matter to us whether the bill is passed or not..." He also criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, alleging that the bill was introduced in the Assembly to "deceive the people" of the state. "...The Chief Minister introduced this bill in the Assembly to deceive the people of West Bengal. She also sent it to the Governor and the President. But they rejected the bill, which is a good thing," he said. On Thursday, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose sent back the Aparajita Women and Child (West Bengal Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill, 2024, to the state government. The bill proposes the death penalty or life imprisonment for those convicted of rape and seeks to amend sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the new criminal code. The West Bengal Legislative Assembly had unanimously passed the Aparajita Bill on September 3, 2024. The Bill was sent to President Droupadi Murmu by the Governor on September 6, 2024. The legislation was passed following the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which provides for the death penalty in five categories of offences -- rape, rape by a police officer or public servant, rape causing death or resulting in a persistent vegetative state, gang rape, and repeat offenders. According to Raj Bhawan officials, the bill proposes making the death penalty mandatory in cases where the victim dies or is left in a vegetative state under Section 66 of the BNS. The Bill also proposes to delete Section 65 of the BNS, 2023, thereby eliminating the distinction in punishment for the rape of women under 16 and under 12 years of age, according to Raj Bhawan. The development comes amid repeated appeals by the Trinamool Congress government urging the Union government to grant assent to the Bill. A delegation of Trinamool Congress MPs met President Droupadi Murmu on February 13 to press for early approval of the legislation. Certain legal experts had described the Aparajita Bill as a knee-jerk response by the West Bengal government. Earlier, the father of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim spoke out against the alleged gangrape case in Kolkata's law college, expressing his frustration and disappointment with the recurring incidents of violence. He accused the government of having a significant role to play in preventing such incidents and that the accused should be severely punished. He said, "Such incidents are happening again and again. After what happened with my daughter, many people came out on the streets in protest. Even after that, such incidents continue to occur. People inside the college are committing such incidents. The government has a significant role in this, which is why all these incidents are happening. All three people arrested are from the TMC, so this political party should ensure that such incidents do not happen again. The accused should be severely punished."

Man who ran fake ‘Westarctica' embassy in Ghaziabad visited around 40 countries in 10 years: UP Police

Investigations into a fake embassy scam busted in Ghaziabad's Kavi Nagar area have revealed that the lone accused and mastermind, Harsh Vardhan Jain, 47, was in possession of 12 diplomatic passports and had visited around 40 countries over the past 10 years. These countries include the UK, UAE, Mauritius, Turkey, France, Italy, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Switzerland, Poland, Sri Lanka, and Belgium. According to sources from the Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh Police, Jain's rented bungalow in Kavi Nagar was raided following a secret tip-off, and he was subsequently arrested Tuesday. He allegedly claimed to be the Ambassador of 'Westarctica'. 'During the investigation, it was revealed that Jain was frequently visiting several Gulf and European countries to liaise and manage the operations of his shell companies,' the sources said. 'In some of these companies, he listed himself as the secretary, while in others he projected himself as the director. He has visited around 40 countries, including more than 30 trips to the UAE alone in the past 10 years,' the source said. The police have recovered diplomatic passports of 12 countries as well, they added. A police officer privy to the investigation stated that, so far, evidence suggests Jain made money through his shell companies by offering fake business deals and promising jobs to people in foreign countries. The police team is currently trying to determine the number of people he may have cheated. The officer further said they have already filed an application in a city court seeking Jain's custody for further interrogation. On Tuesday, he was remanded in judicial custody following his initial questioning after the arrest. Another officer stated that more than half a dozen people have been identified as having close associations with Jain in running the scam from Ghaziabad. On Thursday, the police stated that with the arrest of Jain, they have uncovered a complex international financial network — stretching from marble mines in Rajasthan to banks in Dubai, Mauritius, and the UK, According to the STF, during interrogation, Jain admitted to having worked closely with controversial figures such as godman Chandraswami and arms dealer Adnan Khashoggi during his time in London. According to the STF, Jain allegedly partnered with Ehsan Ali Syed, a Hyderabad-based businessman who took Turkish citizenship and is now serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence in Switzerland for defrauding multiple companies by promising large loans and taking brokerage fees in advance. Jain's ties to Syed were allegedly facilitated by Chandraswami, who introduced the two during Jain's stay in London in the early 2000s. The STF added that one of Syed's firms, Western Advisory Group – based in Switzerland and Bahrain – collected over 25 million pounds in brokerage from Swiss companies between 2008 and 2011. 'In collaboration with Ehsan, Harsh Vardhan formed several shell firms, including State Trading Corporation Limited, East India Company UK Limited, Island General Trading Co LLC (UK), Indira Overseas Limited (Mauritius), and Cameron Ispat SARL (Cameroon),' the STF stated. Investigators have also identified at least six bank accounts linked to Jain in the UAE, three in the UK, one in Mauritius, and one in India, the STF said.
