Michael Bay in talks to return for Transformers reboot after exiting 'Fast and Loose'
The development follows Bay's departure from the Netflix and Will Smith project Fast and Loose.
According to Deadline, Bay and Smith parted ways over creative differences. Bay had pushed for a more action-driven approach, while Smith preferred to lean into comedy.
Fast and Loose, which would have reunited the pair for the first time since Bad Boys, remains in production with Netflix aiming for an October shoot. Smith is still attached to star as a man with no memory who learns he has been living two separate lives, one as a cartel kingpin and another as a CIA agent, while the search for a new director continues.
With Fast and Loose no longer on his schedule, Bay is said to be 'discussing with Paramount a return to the Transformers fold with a new version of that tentpole.'
Reports indicate that the studio currently has five Transformers projects in various stages of development. These include a potential crossover with G.I. Joe and another live-action entry from Transformers One director Josh Cooley.
Bay directed the first five Transformers films between 2007 and 2017, with the series earning over $4 billion worldwide.
Beyond Transformers, Bay is also developing OutRun at Universal. Based on the classic video game, the project will star Sydney Sweeney and be produced by Bay alongside Brad Fuller. Jayson Rothwell is writing the script.
