The buzz around the newly opened Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab has been non-stop since day one, and when I finally made it there, I instantly got the hype. Rightfully so – the hotel is stunning, and every bit of the excitement is well deserved. Then I walked into Rialto. Italian dining, at its best, has that cosy, timeless feel – and Rialto nails that perfectly. It's got the warmth, the comfort, and the authenticity you'd expect from a true Italian restaurant. At the helm is Chef Roberto Rispoli, a Pompeii-born culinary talent with Michelin-starred experience, bringing the flavours of Northern Italy to Dubai. Expect a menu rooted in tradition but with a contemporary twist, all served up in a space that oozes vintage glamour – chic yet warm, stylish yet inviting. The food
We started with the Crudo menu
Crudo di Ricciola – Yellowtail crudo with kalamansi and lemon (Dhs120). Fresh, bright, and citrusy – exactly what you want to wake up your palate.

Then onto Antipasti, where we had Arancini alla Zafferano, Tartare di Manzo – Saffron arancini with beef tartare (Dhs85).

For pasta, it was hard to choose, but we went with
Fettuccine alla Bolognese – Wagyu beef fettuccine with tomato (Dhs140). Exactly what you'd expect – comfort food at its finest.

For mains, we had
Branzino al Guazzetto con Patate – Seabass fillet with potatoes, tomatoes, and basil (Dhs180). So flavourful, filling, yet surprisingly light.
And of course, we ended with dessert with
Tiramisu. Because an Italian meal without tiramisu? Unacceptable. Verdict
Rialto ticks all the boxes – the vibe, the food, the experience. If you're after quality Italian food with an ambiance that actually feels Italian, this is a spot worth trying. And if you love having plenty of pasta options (because, really, who doesn't?), then Rialto should definitely be high on your list.

It's an Italian restaurant with this really cool projection on the ceiling of different interiors in Italy and some other abstract-esque designs. Also, Jun's on the Downtown Boulevard. If you haven't been, I'd highly recommend checking it out. @duomodubai , @junsdubai Explore here There are loads of hidden gems around the UAE, but in Dubai specifically, the area around the Union Memorial Fountain Plaza in Deira has some super cool, super iconic shawarma spots like Halla Shawarma, Furat and Shawarma Alsag Cafeteria, to name a few. They have the best shawarmas you will ever have. Switch off here Personally, I go skating to switch off. Dubai's home to so many skateparks now, like XPark on Kite Beach and the D3 Skate Park, and some are empty. I take my music and camera with me and just do my thing. Another spot is the new dog beach in Deira. It is one of the cleanest public beaches around, and the dogs make it so much better. @xdubaipark Go here I recently discovered the beauty of camping in the mountains of Ras Al Khaimah. You'll need a capable 4×4 to get up to Jabal Jais, and it's about one hours' drive to RAK from Dubai, then another hour's hike up the mountain. But it's super peaceful, so beautiful and the kind of place you could take a special someone to, or a group of friends. But maybe hold off until its cooler. Images: Supplied/Socials

A royal test ride, 200km/h speed and sleek passenger stations – here's the latest on the UAE's most ambitious public transport project We may still be a little while away from hopping on board, but Etihad Rail just got a major seal of approval – from none other than His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai recently took a test journey from Dubai to Fujairah aboard the passenger train, part of the country's first national rail network set to launch in 2026. Right now, the train isn't open to the public – but it's getting there. By 2026, you'll be able to zoom across the country in plush, modern comfort, skipping traffic and slashing travel times. Expect to go from Abu Dhabi to Dubai in just 57 minutes and reach Fujairah in around 105. That's a game-changer for both residents and tourists – and the network's design is all about efficiency, sustainability and connectivity. Here's what we know so far: The rail will connect 11 cities across the UAE from Al Sila in the west to Fujairah in the east. It's designed to carry up to 36 million passengers a year by 2030. The passenger service is expected to boost domestic tourism, potentially generating Dh24 billion in revenue over the next 50 years. While official ticket prices haven't been announced yet, the RTA's nol card is expected to be part of the payment system. And if early reports are anything to go by, the interiors will feature luxury seating, charging ports, entertainment systems and a little Italian flair – thanks to a partnership with boutique train design firm Arsenale. The bigger picture Etihad Rail isn't just about fast trips between cities. It's part of a Dh50 billion national railway programme designed to future-proof transport in the UAE – with expected economic gains of Dhs200 billion over the next 50 years. Think reduced car dependency, lower emissions and safer roads. Every freight train will take up to 300 trucks off UAE highways and the network is expected to cut land transport emissions by 21 percent annually by 2050. And with freight already in motion, it won't be long until passengers can climb aboard too. Four stations have already been confirmed and construction is in full swing. So while you won't be riding it just yet, Sheikh Mohammed's test journey shows the future of UAE travel is firmly on track – fast, sustainable and seriously stylish. Restaurant Review: La Petite Maison Abu Dhabi
La Petite Maison at The Galleria, Al Maryah Island, is a love letter to French flair. From buttery snails to dreamy desserts, this fine dining favourite delivers on flavour, charm and style. Here's our review of this Abu Dhabi fine dining favourite. The Spot La Petite Maison sits inside The Galleria on Al Maryah Island in Abu Dhabi. The Michelin-starred restaurant began as a charming restaurant in the old town of Nice in the 1980s. It was founded by Nicole Rubi, a French woman of Italian descent who believed in simple, honest food made exceptionally well. Her philosophy travelled and now there are restaurants in London, Dubai, Hong Kong, Riyadh, Doha, Miami, Limassol, and Abu Dhabi. The Vibe Crisp white tablecloths glow against the bright coloured art on the walls. Every fork, every glass, every fold of napkin is precise. In the middle of the room, the staff gather like they're backstage at a play. Sleeves are rolled, aprons are tied. There's a hum in the air, not from guests but from the team getting into position. French music plays in the background as the barman mixes pink mocktails with the care of someone mixing perfume. Then, without warning, the staff let out a shout. It's part war cry, part theatre. A signal. And with that, the doors open and service begins. Food and Drinks LPM's food is French Mediterranean with a whisper of Italian. It's what happens when comfort food gets dressed up for a night out. Think simple ingredients, treated with the kind of reverence usually reserved for royalty. It's the kind of food you'd expect from the South of France if your grandmother and a French chef teamed up in the kitchen. It's elegant without being stuffy and rich without being heavy. Everything feels considered yet effortless. The Burrata with black truffle is the kind of starter that makes you close your eyes on the first bite. Creamy, earthy and too good to share. The showstopper is the beef tartare with smoked bone marrow mayonnaise – a dish so decadent, it should come with a warning label. You could fall in love over that dish. You haven't been to LPM if you haven't had the Burgundy snails with garlic butter and parsley. It's the real hero of the starters, they are a rite of passage. Sides like the dauphinois gratin and broccolini keep things balanced and satisfying. The grilled Wagyu sirloin was rich and indulgent, a dish for when you're feeling celebratory. The Vivienne lamb cutlets were sublime and packed with flavour and finished with just enough finesse to make you fall in love. Perfectly pink, dressed with olive, eggplant caviar and pine nuts, they'll haunt your dreams for a long time. But not everything landed perfectly. The lobster linguine, looked the part but fell short on the flavour. The pasta was tasty, but the lobster itself should have stayed in Canada. It wasn't bad, but it didn't sing. Blame the snails for stealing the spotlight. The homemade rigatoni arrabbiata is a safe, solid choice for the meat-free crowd. Dessert is where the magic returns. The vanilla cheesecake lives up to its reputation as the best in the UAE. Light, creamy, perfectly paired with a berry compote. The hot chocolate mousse is smooth and indulgent, like something written straight from the heart of the kitchen. Both desserts tasted like they were made for the king of France. Drinks are thoughtful and beautifully made. Whether you're going alcohol-free or diving into cocktails, the flavours are clean, bright and refreshing. The Service There's a quiet choreography to the way the staff move. They glide, rather than walk, anticipating what you need before you realise you need it. Waiters know the menu intimately. Their recommendations are honest, thoughtful and spot on. The sommelier, with a palate as sharp as his suit, made pairings that elevated each bite. What's On the Bill Expect to spend around Dhs500 per person. If you're adding Wagyu, caviar or multiple courses, the total climbs fast. But the experience, from food to service, makes it worth it. The Final Say La Petite Maison is an experience that's about more than just exquisite food. You're transported from Abu Dhabi's desert heat to the breezy coastline of the French Riviera. It does this through flavours and feeling. The entire night feels like something to remember. Come hungry, leave smitten. What's On Verdict Sublime service, dreamy desserts and enough French flair to make you forget you're in a mall. Go for the snails, stay for the dessert, and leave planning your next visit.
