Chad Michael Murray Brings Back Story of Helping Lindsay Lohan Before First On-Screen Kiss
A lot has changed between Chad Michael Murray, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan since their days filming Freaky Friday almost 22 years ago.
The three are starring in the sequel to the iconic 2003 film, Freakier Friday, which was released on Friday in theaters. The new movie picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the many challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.
Murray's character, Jake, is dragged into the plot of the sequel by Anna's daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons), who are trying to prevent Anna's wedding. They hope to reunite Jake and Anna by exploiting the body-swapping situation.
In a Q&A with The New York Times published on Friday, Murray was asked about his friendship and on-screen chemistry with Curtis, and the details of his first on-screen kiss with Lohan for the 2003 movie.
Ashley Spencer, thejournalist who interviewed Murray, brought up the fact that Curtis kissed him in a trailer to make Lohan more comfortable about her first on-screen kiss while filming Freaky Friday.
The 43-year-old actor first told this story to Entertainment Tonight six years ago. At the time, Lohan was just 16 years old and was nervous because she had never been kissed before, while Murray was 21. Curtis brought Murray into a trailer on the set of Freaky Friday and gave him a big kiss, then said, "Boom. See, it's easy!" At the time, Curtis was 44.
"There was so much pressure on Lindsay, and her nerves were through the roof. Ultimately, Jamie was like, 'This is becoming too much of a thing,'" then kissed Murray, the One Tree Hill actor recalled. "My head was spinning for a good few weeks in gratitude. She wasn't being inappropriate. She was just trying to make Lindsay feel comfortable, and she and I had a very playful banter already set up."
Murray also mentioned how "kind and so gracious" Curtis was during the interview, and she helped him "keep [his] head above water" when he was first starting in Hollywood.
Murray rose to fame in the late 1990s and early 2000s with roles in popular teen dramas and films. He gained widespread recognition as Tristan DuGrey in Gilmore Girls and Lucas Scott on One Tree Hill. After Freaky Friday, he appeared in A Cinderella Story and House of Wax. Murray later starred in series such as Agent Carter, Sun Records and Riverdale, and stars as Cal Jones in the CW series Sullivan's Crossing.

Jesse Itzler and Devon Levesque on the Mad Fun of Runningman
Serial entrepreneurs and gonzo endurance athletes Jesse Itzler and Devon Levesque break down their latest adventures and the method behind the madness of their upcoming Runningman Festival. Every week on our show, How Success Happens, I get to talk to incredible people who accomplish amazing things in the face of great obstacles. Most entrepreneurs wish they could avoid big obstacles, but others seek them out. Such is the case for Jesse Itzler and Devon Levesque, the one-two punch behind the epic Runningman Festival, a three-day health and wellness event that is equal parts adult summer camp, business networking, party, and athletic race. (Tickets are available here.) For the past 35 years, Itzler has cemented his status as a game-changing entrepreneur, founding and selling companies like Marquis Jet and Zico Coconut Water. He's a bestselling author and speaker — and a guy who likes to run 100-mile ultramarathons in his spare time. Levesque built and sold nutrition brand Promix for nine figures, and does things like completing a marathon-length bear crawl when he is not building new companies. Related: Kim Perell Shares The Mistakes That Made Her a Millionaire The two describe Runningman as a kind of Disneyland where health and wellness meet business. There are motivational speakers, breakout sessions, and on the second day, they put the "running" in Runningman. Attendees have access to a one-mile loop for eight hours that they can use however they choose — some walk a mile, take a yoga class, then walk another mile. Others run 5Ks, 10Ks, and over the last two years, some have used the time to complete ultramarathons. "It's about getting whatever you want out of it, meeting people out there, building friendships and even making deals," says Itzler. I spoke with Itzler and Levesque about their wild festival, and the business and life lessons they've learned from pushing their bodies to their outer limits. Listen to our entire conversation here or watch it above, and read below for three success takeaways. Subscribe to How Success Happens to get a dose of inspiration twice a week! Apple | Spotify | YouTube Continue to redefine success for yourself. In his 20s and 30s, Jesse says success was all about "trying to be richer than the next guy," but now is says it means figuring out what buckets are the most important to you — family, health, philanthropy, business — and striving to do whatever you can to be as good as you can in those areas you truly care about. Understand that physical pain can bring mental well-being. Devon says that pushing his body to its physical limits brings a sense of calmness to his brain, allowing him to "approach the world in a better way" and "stops me from making chaotic decisions." He says it has made him stronger when facing any obstacle in his life. "You learn that pain is temporary." Start with fun, and success will follow. Planning Runningman is unlike any other business endeavor. "We've never talked about how to make more money — our conversations are 'Is there a way to have an ice skating rink there in the middle of summer in Georgia? Do you know 50 people on stilts that can do a Slip 'n' Slide? Our conversations are insane!" Fast facts Devon holds a world record for performing the highest altitude backflip, which he did at the peak of Mount Everest. Jesse wrote "Go, New York, Go!", the theme song for the New York Knicks that has been played since 1993.

The 15 Best Genre Movies of Summer 2025 (and Where to Watch Them)
A few short weeks remain in the 2025 summer movie season, and we have to say, it's been a pretty great one. Lots of the big blockbusters really delivered. Lots of smaller films came out of nowhere to surprise us. And even a few streaming titles made their mark. Below, we've got our choices for the 15 best genre movies released during the summer of 2025, from the first weekend in May through the end of August. Spoiler: this is the only Marvel movie on this list. Not that we disliked Fantastic Four—it's actually pretty fun—but Thunderbolts offered us a more exciting ride, with an incredible cast of characters and a much, much better tease toward the future. Thunderbolts is now available on digital download and Blu-ray. It'll hit Disney+ on August 27. There's something to be said about a movie that just gives you exactly what it promises, does it well, and does it right. That's Clown in a Cornfield. Read our review here. Clown in a Cornfield is streaming on Shudder. Together is almost an incredible movie. Instead, it's just a really, really good, gross movie about two people who get infected with something that keeps forcing them together. Great performances, interesting relationship dynamics, and a killer ending. It's missing a little something to put it over the top, but it is still well worth seeing. Together is now in theaters and will be streaming later this year. Yup, I threw a documentary at you. This summer marked the 50th anniversary of one of the best genre movies ever, the killer shark film Jaws, and this documentary diving into seemingly every aspect of its development, production, and reception is just a joy to watch. Read our interview with the film's director here. (And while it's not exactly genre-focused, if you want another great doc from this summer, Pee-wee as Himself on HBO Max is masterful.) Jaws @ 50 is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu. The 2023 horror film Talk to Me was absolutely amazing, and its directors, Danny and Michael Philippou, followed it up with this, not quite as good, but somehow even more disturbing horror tale. Sally Hawkins gives a chilling lead performance in a film that features the most horrifying visuals of the year. Bring Her Back is now available for digital download or rental. If you were wondering, 'How can io9 do a list of best genre films of the summer when the summer isn't over yet?' here's the answer. We've seen the last major one, coming to theaters later this month, and it's a doozy. Gory, hilarious, and a fine homage to the Troma films that inspired it. Read our review here. The Toxic Avenger comes to theaters August 29. If How to Train Your Dragon was something we saw for the first time this summer, it would easily be the top movie on this list. The original is incredible. However, this 'incredible' movie is just that movie again, in live action, so while it's really wonderful, it drops a little bit down the list. Read our review here. How to Train Your Dragon is currently available for digital download or rental. Elio may have been one of the biggest box office bombs of the summer, but it's not for lack of quality. The film itself is a funny, heartfelt, stunningly beautiful adventure that's right up there with Pixar's best recent output. So, it's not Wall-E or anything, but it's certainly on par with Turning Red, Soul, etc. Read our review. Elio will be available digitally on August 19. When Oscar winner Danny Boyle and legendary writer Alex Garland teamed back up to return to the franchise they put on the map, you knew it had to be good. And it was. 28 Years Later is an intense, heartbreaking piece of worldbuilding with lots of action, emotion, and massive penises. We can't believe we only have to wait a few more months for its sequel. Read our review here. 28 Years Later is now available for digital download and rental. Arguably, the biggest hit, and surprise, of the summer was on Netflix. Who could've guessed? This tale of a K-Pop band that protects the universe from evil is not only fun and funny, but it's also got some of the catchiest movie music in recent memory. It loses a little steam towards the end, but no matter. It's still a blast. KPop Demon Hunters can be streamed on Netflix. The sixth film in a franchise is rarely the best film in a franchise, but that's exactly what Final Destination Bloodlines is. Telling a big, sweeping story that connects the entire series, directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein brought an unfathomably wild set of kills to the film, making it scary and gross but also a complete blast to watch. Here's our review. Final Destination Bloodlines is currently streaming on HBO Max. James Gunn did it. He was able to bring Superman back in a big, big way with a film that's as massive as the character demands but also weird and off the rails in ways we never expected. It's the best superhero movie of the summer. Read our review here. Superman is still in theaters and arrives on digital Friday. Perfect timing! The best horror movie of the summer follows a town broken when a classroom of kids mysteriously goes missing in the night. What happens next has to be seen to be believed and, we think, will be watched and discussed over and over again. Read our review here. Weapons is currently in theaters and is likely to hit streaming later this year. Even before director Dan Trachtenberg added on an even better, more exciting end credit scene to the already awesome one he had, Predator: Killer of Killers was a winner. You just haven't lived until you've seen Predators fight across the centuries. Read our review here. Predator: Killer of Killers is streaming on Hulu. This is my list, and I'll do what I want. That's why, while it's not technically a straight genre film, I just have to call out one extra movie. It's Heads of State, the John Cena/Idris Elba movie that premiered this year on Prime Video. This rather straightforward action film is so much fun, I couldn't believe it. Light-years ahead of most films that premiere on streaming. Watch it here. And now… And yet, among all the superheroes, the killer animation, and the terrifying horror, it's a not-so-simple movie about a simple man's life that stands ahead of the rest. Mike Flanagan's adaptation of the Stephen King short story is so fresh, optimistic, and rewatchable that we haven't stopped thinking about it since we saw it. If you missed it in theaters, see it as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed. Our review is here. The Life of Chuck is now available for digital download and rental. Want more io9 news? Bonkers Red-Band Trailer For DC's PEACEMAKER Season 2 Delivers Bloody Mayhem — GeekTyrant
HBO Max has unleashed the red-band trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, and it's just as chaotic, violent, and unfiltered as fans could've hoped for. With the series set to return next week, this trailer gives us a clear look at where things are headed, and it looks absolutely bonkers! From an eye-gouging Eagly bird attack to multiversal madness, James Gunn is clearly upping the stakes as the show transitions fully into the new DC Universe. The trailer wastes no time going full throttle. There's a heavy dose of bloody violence, and there's even an orgy thrown into the mix, because of course there is, along with a Lex Luthor name drop that suggests some major DC players are creeping into the storyline. The season teases a trip into a strange new world where things are just a bit... off. There's a version of Peacemaker who's famous, emotionally stable, and in love with Emilia Harcourt . Whether this is a parallel universe, an illusion, or something even crazier remains to be seen. We also get a glimpse of Rick Flag Sr. , played by Frank Grillo, who's clearly looking for revenge after his son's death in The Suicide Squad . The guy seems pissed — and likely dangerous. James Gunn confirmed that Season 2 will have a direct tie-in with Superman , the upcoming DCU film. 'You've seen what we call the QUC, the Quantum Unfolding Chamber, in the first season of Peacemaker , and we see more about that technology in Superman ,' said Gunn. 'The QUC is the center of the story in Peacemaker season 2.' He added, 'We see a lot of different characters from Superman in the [season], [including] Isabela and Nathan and Sean, and then we see a bunch of other characters later on in the season from other parts of the DCU and from Superman .' He even teased that, 'There might even be one really, really, really big cameo near the end of the show.' That last comment has fans speculating, especially since the final few episodes weren't sent to critics, just like Season 1, which famously featured surprise cameos from Aquaman and The Flash. Critics were given five of the eight episodes ahead of the premiere, and the social media and review embargo lifts tomorrow. That's when we'll get the first wave of reactions to see if Peacemaker can keep DC Studios' current hot streak going, following the success of Creature Commandos and Superman . Peacemaker season 2 follows Christopher 'Chris' Smith, aka Peacemaker, the vigilante superhero, as he struggles to reconcile his past with his newfound sense of purpose while continuing to kick righteous evildoer butt in his misguided quest for peace at any cost. He discovers an alternate world where life is everything he wishes it could be. But this discovery also forces him to face his traumatic past and take the future into his own hands. This second batch of episodes will star Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Brey Noelle, and Tim Meadows. Gunn wrote all eight episodes of Peacemaker and directed three, including the first episode. The second season of Peacemaker officially premieres August 21, 2025, on HBO Max.
