‘Humiliated' Kadodia awaits PSL to confirm Durban City's promotion
City are finally the official champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship (MFC) after an arbitration dismissed two cases against them.
The trophy and prize money were not presented to the Durban club after they clinched the title in the final game with a 1-0 win against Cape Town Spurs at Athlone Stadium on May 18 that also relegated their opposition.
The Premier Soccer League (PSL) said then a trophy would not be presented pending cases brought by JDR Stars and Spurs over the alleged improper registration of winger Saziso Magawana by the KwaZulu-Natal team.

Kaizer Chiefs spark early optimism with perfect Betway Premiership start
Kaizer Chiefs have begun the 2025/26 Betway Premiership with a renewed sense of purpose, turning last season's frustrations into early optimism. After a campaign marked by inconsistency and disappointment, Amakhosi appear to have rediscovered their rhythm, giving supporters fresh hope with a perfect start to the season. Last year's main flaw was their inability to maintain consistency; despite adjustments, they repeatedly dropped valuable points, eventually finishing ninth. It was a bitter pill for a club of their stature, and expectations for this season were understandably cautious. Following their 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC at the FNB Stadium, hope has been restored. Of course, no titles are decided in August nor the order of the table, but a strong start provides a foundation on which confidence can be built — and the Glamour Boys have done just that. Here we will look at the five key talking points from their season so far. A team finding its identity and playing style? Much of the buzz this season has focused on head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who has been away attending to a family emergency. Questions naturally arose over whether his absence might disrupt the rhythm the team has found, but those doubts have largely been put to rest. Assistant coach Khalil Ben Youssef confirmed that Nabi has remained deeply involved, helping guide the side from back home and he might be in the bench in their match against Mamelodi Sundowns next week. Beyond his presence, Chiefs face the bigger challenge of defining their identity this season, especially with a host of new signings. Early signs are promising, but the real test will be maintaining momentum while seamlessly integrating the newcomers into the squad's rhythm. Defensive resilience Another standout improvement has come at the back. Defensive instability was a hallmark of last season, with constant errors and reshuffling undermining results. This time, goalkeeper Brandon Petersen's return to the No.1 spot has brought stability. After patiently waiting for his chance, Petersen has made the most of it, guiding Chiefs to three consecutive clean sheets. His leadership has been complemented by the partnership forming between Aiden McCarthy and captain Inacio Miguel, while Bafana Bafana defender Rushwin Dortley is set to return from injury soon, further strengthening their options. Sirino finds his spark In attack, Gaston Sirino delivered one of the most encouraging moments so far. The Uruguayan, who this season is under pressure to perform, scored the decisive goal against Richards Bay. That strike could provide the boost he needs to finally ignite his Chiefs career. With continental competition also on the horizon in the CAF Confederation Cup, Chiefs will need experienced players like Sirino to step up and deliver consistently. New signings and healthy competition The club has also been active in the transfer market, unveiling youngsters Luke Baartman and Asanele Velebayi, both arriving after disputes with Cape Town Spurs, along with Nigerian striker Etiosa Ighodaro. These reinforcements, combined with earlier acquisitions, highlight Chiefs' intent to strengthen across all departments. The depth they now possess means competition for places will be fierce, reducing complacency and ensuring standards remain high. Youngsters to play with freedom With action happening everywhere else, the spotlight and expectations have shifted from talented youngsters including Mduduzi Shabalala who may just have a good opportunity to reach his peak playing with less expectations.. With a weight of expectation on him to deliver in seasons past, it has prevented him the freedom to be the player he is and while nothing is guaranteed, a continuous happy camp may just spark his best form.

Sekhukhune United aim for MTN8 comeback against Stellenbosch, with talisman Makgalwa on song
Keletso Makgalwa in action as Sekhukhune United secured a 3-0 victory over Orbit College. Photo: BackpagePix Image: BackpagePix Eric Tinkler must be a happy coach — his team, Sekhukhune United, and talisman Keletso Makgalwa, have hit the right notes at the right time. Sekhukhune United will face Stellenbosch in the MTN8 semi-final second leg at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday at 6pm, trailing 2-0 from last weekend's first-leg defeat in Stellenbosch. The ginger-haired coach lamented after that game that his troops had not followed his instructions. That loss also dented their perfect start to the season, having won all three of their opening matches — two in the Betway Premiership and one in the Wafa Wafa Cup. However, Tinkler's troops bounced back on Tuesday night, defeating newcomers Orbit College 3-0 away. The victory propelled them to the top of the log standings with a perfect record after five matches, including wins over Orlando Pirates and TS Galaxy. Video Player is loading. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Tuesday's win — coupled with a clean sheet and a Player of the Match performance from Makgalwa — has boosted confidence ahead of the MTN8 semi-final clash. In knockout matches, clean sheets are as important as goals. Having already conceded twice away to Stellenbosch, Sekhukhune cannot afford to concede at home. A goal for Stellenbosch in Polokwane would count twice — cushioning their lead and providing an away-goal advantage, if needed. Renaldo Leaner and his defence must be as solid as they were against Orbit, avoiding the mistakes made in the first leg. Goals will also be crucial if Sekhukhune are to come back and progress to the MTN8 final for the first time since their promotion four seasons ago. That is where Bradley Grobler and company enter the equation. They need to bring their scoring boots and showcase relentless attacking prowess against an improving Stellenbosch defence. What will please Tinkler heading into the game is that Keletso Makgalwa is in fine form, living up to his 'King of Assists' moniker. Makgalwa was the standout performer against Orbit, providing all three assists — two for Vusumzi Mncube's brace and one for Tshepo Mokoena's goal. 3 - Keletso Makgalwa is the first player in the PSL's top-flight to make a hat-trick of assists in a game since Themba Zwane in April 2024 (v TS Galaxy). Generous. — OptaJabu (@OptaJabu) August 19, 2025 The outstanding display and current form of the 28-year-old are exactly what Babina Noko need, particularly after Tinkler had bemoaned Makgalwa's sluggish start to the season. The coach admitted before the first leg that transfer rumours seemed to have affected the player's performances. He advised Makgalwa that the only way to attract serious interest from other clubs was to improve on last season's form, and the club would not stand in his way if genuine offers came in. The former Mamelodi Sundowns youth product appears to have heeded his coach's advice. After just five games this season, he is only seven assists shy of last season's tally. Makgalwa's progress has not gone unnoticed by rival fans either — some Orlando Pirates supporters have suggested he could replace Relebohile Mofokeng should the youngster move abroad. Mofokeng is reportedly on the radar of MLS side Minnesota United, who have allegedly tabled an offer close to $2 million (about R35m). While a move abroad may be out of Makgalwa's control, he can determine his own fate by staying consistent and delivering top-level performances week in and week out. A strong showing ahead of Bafana Bafana's 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers and the Afcon tournament in Morocco later this year could further enhance his chances of a big move. That is why he cannot afford to take his foot off the gas, particularly when Tinkler will be relying on him to deliver more assists against Stellenbosch in Polokwane on Saturday evening.
