Akhilesh Yadav to move into new office-cum-residence in Azamgarh
2
Varanasi: Built on a campus of over 3 bigha area (81,000 sq ft), a two-storey building will be the residence of
Samajwadi Party
president
Akhilesh Yadav
in Anwarganj area of
Azamgarh
district, into which he will formally move at noon on Thursday and address party workers.
Busy with finalisation of preparations for the housewarming ceremony under supervision of local SP MP Dharmendra Yadav at Anwarganj, the party's district president, Hawaldar Yadav, said, "Our leader has often said that if Etawah was like a heart for him, Azamgarh is its beat. And now he will even have a new residence here."
According to Hawaldar, most of the 3 bigha area is open, while a two-storey building with a sloped roof has residential space on the upper floor, while the party office will run on ground floor.
The building comprises about six rooms and two halls, including one for meeting with party workers. Painted white, the new premises is located around 3 km from the main city and 6 km from Manduri airstrip.
For the Saifai Yadav clan, Azamgarh turned into a safe castle due to vote bank. In the previous 18 general elections and three by-elections for Azamgarh LS seat, Yadav candidates emerged victorious 15 times, while Muslim candidates emerged victorious thrice, including in two by-elections.

Non-Yadav and non-Muslim candidates won this seat in 1952, 1957, and 1984. Even the Bharatiya Janata Party won this seat in a general election once fielding turncoat politician and jailed MLA Ramakant Yadav and a by-election fielding Bhojpuri cine star Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua.
In view of the same equations, SP founder, late Mulayam Singh Yadav, made Azamgarh axis of his east UP politics. Due to around 40% OBC and almost 20% Muslim population, even in neighbouring districts Mau, Ambedkarnagar, Ghazipur and Jaunpur, he used to create a cascading effect of the tempo maintained by him there at assembly and LS seats of these districts too.
After winning the 2014 LS election from Azamgarh, Mulayam spared it for Akhilesh in 2019.
After winning the 2019 LS poll from Azamgarh, Akhilesh surrendered it in 2022 to return to the UP assembly. But before quitting the Azamgarh LS seat, he fulfilled demand of his party leaders and supporters to have a house in the district. Hawaldar said the land for this home was purchased in 2020. The association shown by Akhilesh with east UP helped him and his alliance win around 31 seats of 61 assembly constituencies in 10 districts of this region.
In 2024, SP not only wrested the Azamgarh seat from BJP but also performed well in all neighbouring LS seats, including Ghazipur, Ballia, Mau, Jaunpur, and Chandauli.

India now sole govt. with vote in emoji, text standards body Unicode Consortium
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) rejoined the Unicode Consortium as a Supporting Member this year, becoming one of just two government members with a vote on the body. The consortium and its technical body are in charge of determining the text and emojis that are standard across the internet, and have played a major role in ensuring that languages around the world, including Indian languages, are recognised by computer systems globally. The IT Ministry was previously a member from 2000 to 2019, and then for one year in 2021. The IT Ministry has not issued any statement announcing its membership, which has been listed on the consortium's website as the 'Government of India', with a link to MeitY's website. The membership, which allows the Indian government a half vote in the technical committee's decision making — and a seat at the table at its meetings, mostly held in the U.S. and online — represents an annual $20,000 commitment, or about ₹17 lakh. The IT Ministry has been a member of the consortium as a part of the decades-old Technology Development for Indian Languages (TDIL) initiative, which sought to promote, at first, an Indian alternative to ASCII, the pre-Unicode limited character set, and later on cooperated with efforts to internationalise Indian scripts by including them in Unicode. In 2023, The Hindu reported on how the Tamil Virtual Academy, an e-learning institute that operates autonomously under Tamil Nadu's Information Technology and Digital Services Department, had run up over $200,000 in membership fees over more than a decade, but did not attend a single meeting, or engage meaningfully with the body beyond 2016, while proprietary non-Unicode typefaces continued to be used across the State government's arms. The Tamil Virtual Academy remains a member, the only other Supporting Member globally apart from the IT Ministry. Other State governments, like Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh, have briefly held memberships, but discontinued them. The IT Ministry was not present at the latest series of meetings of the Unicode Technical Committee, held from April 22–24.

AAP decries merger of primary schools in UP
Lucknow: Having kickstarted its preparations for UP panchayat elections scheduled for next year, the Aam Aadmi Party organised its first major protest against the state govt on Wednesday. The protest addressed the issue of the proposed merger of council schools where student numbers are too few. The protest, organised across the state under the slogan 'Madhushala Nahin, Pathshala Chahiye' (no liquor shops, we want schools), aligned with the party's objective to address issues affecting rural and marginalised communities in the state, who will be the main participants in the panchayat polls. The party plans to launch a mega membership drive in UP from July 11. Alleging that state govt's proposal would deprive the rural population of cheap, accessible education, AAP has demanded that govt immediately withdraws the order to close schools. The party insists that govt should provide free education to children aged six to 14 as per the RTE Act. On Wednesday many protestors were detained in Lucknow. AAP's Ayodhya region president Vinay Patel claimed that UP govt planned to open 27,000 liquor shops, while closing 27,000 govt schools. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo He stated that according to govt data, 42 lakh children dropped out of govt schools in four years. When To Expect WBJEE 2025 Results? Here's Are The Details
Last Updated: WBJEE 2025 Results Soon: Candidates can download scorecards from or using their application number and password or DOB. WBJEE 2025 Results: The West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board (WBJEEB) is likely to announce the WBJEE 2025 results in early July. Candidates who appeared for the exam will be able to download their results by logging in to the official websites at or To log in, they will need their application number along with either their password or date of birth. The WBJEE 2025 result will include important information such as the candidate's name, roll number, overall rank, total marks, and individual scores in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Candidates who qualify in the WBJEE exam can seek admission into various undergraduate courses in engineering, technology, architecture, and pharmacy across colleges in West Bengal. This year, the WBJEE exam was held on April 27, 2025. On June 17, the Calcutta High Court issued an interim stay on several executive orders issued by the West Bengal government. These orders granted reservation benefits to 140 sub-groups within the OBC-A and OBC-B categories. The stay came just days after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee presented a revised OBC list in the West Bengal Assembly. The opposition BJP strongly opposed the move, claiming that many of the newly included communities on the list were from the Muslim population. The High Court was hearing a petition filed by Amal Chandra Das, who questioned the legality of the new OBC list. A division bench of Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty and Justice Rajasekhar Mantha ruled that all executive notifications issued between May 8 and June 13 related to the OBC list would be suspended until July 31, pending a detailed review. While the WBJEE Board has not officially stated that the court case is the reason for the result delay, the ongoing legal situation could be affecting the schedule. This is because the results usually include category-wise ranks, which play a key role in admissions under reserved categories. First Published:
