Lindsay Lohan found it 'hard' to fit in with Mean Girls co-stars for one key reason

Daily Mirrora day ago
While discussing her latest role in Freakier Friday, Lindsay Lohan spoke about her struggle to connect with the other actresses on the set of hit noughties flick Mean Girls
Lindsay Lohan has been back in the spotlight this summer while reprising one of her most beloved roles alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, the long-awaited sequel to Disney's 2003 hit Freaky Friday.

While opening up about her bond with her co-star Julia Butters, Lohan ended up admitting that they have a very different relationship than the one she had with the actresses she starred alongside in the noughties hit Mean Girls.

In an interview with The New York Times, Lohan gushed about the Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star, saying: "She's my best friend in the entire world. We see each other every single day. That's not even an exaggeration." This comes as fans have gushed over Lindsey Lohan's youthful Freakier Friday premiere look which saw her 'aging backwards'.

Jamie Lee Curtis sobs over Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson's 'intimate' relationship
Reflecting on her time shooting Mean Girls in 2004, the then actress explained that the age gap between her and the rest of the main cast made it tricky to find her place socially.
"It was hard because Rachel McAdams was so much older," Lohan revealed. "I was in school. [And] Amanda and Lacey were all hanging out. It was hard for me to find where I fit in."

At the time, McAdams, who famously played queen bee Regina George, was 25, while Lacey Chabert was 21. Amanda Seyfried was 17 like Lohan, but it seems Lindsey still felt there was a distance between them.
Mean Girls went on to become a defining moment in Lohan's career, and certain lines from the romcom are still referenced in pop culture two decades later.
Even Freakier Friday included a clever nod to the iconic chick flick. Early in the film, viewers meet Anna's new fiancé Eric, who is played by Manny Jacinto. Their whirlwind romance is shown in a montage which ends with with October 3 circled on the calendar as their wedding date. Mean Girls fans will instantly recognise the date.
In Mean Girls, when Lohan's character Cady Heron starts to have a crush on a boy in her class, she narrates their first interaction, saying, "On October 3rd, he asked me what day it was." She then turns to him on screen and says, "It's October 3rd." The date is now celebrated annually by fans as 'Mean Girls Day'.
Freakier Friday came out 22 years after the original Freaky Friday, and Lohan has said she is grateful to be revisiting Anna at a new stage in life. The follow-up sees Lohan return as Anna Coleman, who once again finds herself swapping bodies with her mum Tess (Curtis). This time, the magical mishap also ropes in Anna's teenage daughter Harper (Julia Butters) and soon-to-be stepsister Lily (Sophia Hammons).

I listened to my husband's sudden death on the phone as I lay in hospital after he saved my life

Something didn't feel right when Patrica Bartlett couldn't reach husband Stuart on the phone - then, a number she didn't recognise flashed up on her screen TRAGIC TWIST I listened to my husband's sudden death on the phone as I lay in hospital after he saved my life Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PATRICIA Bartlett's husband saved her life after a tummy ache turned out to be a life-threatening condition. But as she recovered in hospital, neither of them could have imagined the heartbreak that was waiting around the corner when she received a chilling phone call. 4 Patricia Bartlett with her late husband Stuart, who died in March 2025 Credit: Bauer Here, Patricia, 44, shares how in a few short years she went from planning her wedding to the 'love of her life', Stuart, to organising his funeral... I GAZED into a twinkling pair of hazel eyes, and as the man sitting opposite me gave a hearty laugh and reached out to touch my hand, I felt a fizz of attraction. 'You're so funny,' he said. And my heart swelled. I was on a date with Stuart after meeting through mutual friends. It had started hours earlier at a cocktail bar on the seafront. By now, we were at a nightclub in the early hours of the morning, and I still didn't want to leave. Weeks earlier, I'd moved from Swadlincote in Derbyshire to Lanzarote, Spain, with my grown-up kids and starting a relationship was the last thing on my mind. But Stuart was kind, funny and handsome. The only problem was that he lived in the UK and was due to fly home in a few days. One evening, as we sat on the beach with a bottle of bubbly, I said: 'I don't want you to go.' 'I won't then,' he replied. He pulled out his phone and rescheduled his flight there and then. Boy, 5, goes into cardiac arrest on Disney ride and is rushed into emergency surgery In the weeks that followed, we grew closer, and Stuart moved his flight on two more occasions. When he eventually returned to Britain, he came back to visit every few months. Soon, I fell deeply in love, and Stuart felt the same way. One day, as we walked through town at sunset, he pulled me into his arms. 'I love you, Patricia,' he said. 'I want to spend my life with you.' 'I love you too,' I said, with tears in my eyes. Wedding joy When my birthday rolled around, Stuart arranged a romantic weekend away. That morning, I was sitting in bed with a coffee when he appeared down on one knee. Holding out a sparkling ring, he asked me to marry him and I squealed "yes" giddily in response. Months later, I walked down the aisle to wed the love of my life, both of us weeping Patricia Bartlett But it was bittersweet as just a few weeks later, Stuart packed his suitcases into the car to fly home. After driving him to the airport, he kissed me goodbye and told me he'd be back in no time. Tears rolled down my face as I drove home alone. Then, Stuart phoned. 'Do I really need to go home?' he said. 'I can sort my business from here. Come back and get me.' I spun around, and at the airport, I flung my arms around him. Stuart moved in with me, and we started planning our wedding for exactly two years from our first date. We also set up a business together, delivering products to bars in the area. But when Covid hit, our wedding dreams were put on hold. 4 The couple met in Lanzarote and got married on the grounds of their house Credit: Bauer That was until we moved to a new house, which had a church on its grounds. Every morning, we'd go for a walk before having breakfast together. One day, Stuart stopped in front of the church and said: 'Let's get married right here.' So that's what we did – months later, I walked down the aisle to wed the love of my life. Standing at the altar, Stuart held my hands and whispered 'forever' as we waited to exchange our vows. I whispered it back, both of us weeping. In the years that followed, we settled into married life, and I opened a nail salon. Saturday nights were spent sipping drinks at our favourite bar and watching Arsenal games. Stuart bought chickens and made me eggs on toast every morning. We were blissfully happy. But one day, I was working at the salon when I developed a tummy ache and nausea. The pain became so intense that I had to close early. 'My husband saved my life' Back home, Stuart took me to the local hospital, where a scan revealed my bowel was blocked. I was sent home with medication to help flush out the blockage, but within an hour, I was vomiting. Stuart knew something wasn't right, so he called an ambulance. But after a second visit to the hospital, I was again told to go home. Over the next week, the pain left me bed-bound. I was unable to eat and also struggled to go to the toilet. Desperate not to see his new wife suffer, Stuart took me to a private hospital, where doctors discovered I had a perforated bowel - a serious condition where a hole or tear develops in the lining of the intestines. It means digestive fluids and bacteria can leak into the abdominal cavity, potentially leading to a life-threatening infection called peritonitis. A doctor told Stuart: 'If you hadn't brought her in, I don't think she would have made it through the next 24 hours.' My husband saved my life. 4 Patricia says Stuart saved her life after she fell ill while at work Credit: Bauer I needed an emergency operation. I was scared, but Stuart reassured me that he loved me and I was going to be OK before I was wheeled away. When I came round, I discovered that I'd been fitted with a colostomy bag. I felt the furthest thing from sexy and told Stuart to leave me, but with his hand in mine, he told me I was beautiful. After six days in intensive care, I was discharged and returned home – with my colostomy bag, which I named Sheila. In the months that followed, my condition improved, and I was told I could have the bag removed. It was a big decision, as the operation carried risks, but I wanted to live the rest of my life with just Stuart, not Sheila too. I had to travel to a hospital in Gran Canaria for the five-hour operation, but Stuart was there by my side. Because the procedure overran, he didn't have long before he had to dash to the airport to fly home to run our businesses. How to spot a perforated bowel A PERFORATED bowel occurs when hole develops in your bowel wall, part of your gastrointestinal (GI) tract. There are many potential causes, including: diverticular disease, abscesses, ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, strangulated hernia, forceful vomiting, inflammation and several types of cancer. Trauma can also cause a perforated bowel. This might happen during abdominal surgery, when a surgeon may accidentally nick or cut the bowel, but it can also happen as a result of a knife or gunshot wound, damage caused by swallowed foreign objects and appendicitis. No matter the cause, symptoms may not be obvious at first. They may include: Severe stomach pain Chills Fever Nausea Vomiting A perforation anywhere in the GI tract is a medical emergency, usually requiring surgery. When symptoms are recognised early and treated quickly, most patients recover. Potential complications include: internal damage, blood loss, peritonitis and sepsis. Before he left, he kissed me on the forehead. 'Get some rest, Kinnins,' he said, using the nickname he'd given me. I felt safe and happy. And the next day, I woke up to find he'd sent me a beautiful message. It read: 'You are brave and strong, and I'm proud of you.' 'Gripped by panic' I tried to call, but Stuart's phone went to voicemail. I assumed he was busy, and tried again later, but still there was no answer. I left a message but something didn't feel right. Stuart should have finished work by this point, so there was no reason for him not to ring me back. Then, a number I didn't recognise flashed up on my screen; it was one of our customers. 'Patricia, I'm so sorry, but Stuart has collapsed,' he said. 'Paramedics are working on him now.' I was gripped by panic, but all I could do was stay on the phone and listen to the commotion in the background. After 45 minutes, the paramedics had to stop. My husband was dead. I hung up in disbelief, struggling to catch my breath. As panic coursed through me, a nurse slipped a pill under my tongue to calm me down. My daughter came to be by my side and supported me until I was well enough to be discharged from hospital. Back home, we held Stuart's funeral and the church was packed. Delivering a eulogy, his friend said: 'There were three things Stuart loved in life – his wife Patricia, Arsenal and his chickens.' 4 Stuart suffered a fatal cardiac arrest while his wife was in hospital Credit: Bauer We held the wake at our favourite pub. His mates wore Arsenal shirts, and my daughter arranged a slideshow of photos of Stuart. It has now been several months since his death on March 18, but the grief is still so raw. I miss the sound of his laughter, and I feel so lonely when I sit with my morning coffee and he's not by my side. A postmortem revealed that Stuart suffered a cardiac arrest as a result of ischemic heart disease (a condition where the heart muscle doesn't receive enough blood and oxygen) and cardiac hypertrophy (the thickening of the heart muscle walls). He collapsed while doing deliveries to our customers, and he might have survived had a defibrillator been available. In his memory, I've set up Stuart's Prevention Plan to raise money for defibrillators to be installed in the local area and to provide CPR training. I can't bring Stuart back, but I can help others so they don't have to suffer the pain and sadness I live with every day.

5 things on Netflix almost nobody has watched this year

Chloe Johnson Published August 5, 2025 11:43am Updated August 5, 2025 11:43am Link is copied Comments While we're flocking to the cinema to watch the new Superman, Fantastic Four and anxiously awaiting Freakier Friday, there's also plenty to get stuck into at home. When it comes to streaming, Netflix reigns supreme, with films regularly racking up eye-watering viewing figures. The platform recently released its 'What We Watched' report for the first six months of 2025, compiling the data to show movies like Back In Action and STRAW taking the world by storm. But there are also a lot of things almost nobody is watching, leaving them thousands of entries down the list with the lowest viewing figures recognised by Netflix (rounded to 100,000 views). Curious? Here are a handful of big titles that have flopped on Netflix so far in 2025... (Picture: REUTERS) Underworld: Evolution is an American action-horror film series for fans of an edgier Twilight, complete with vampires and werewolves. With actors like Michael Sheen, Kate Beckinsale and Bill Nighy, you would think that this one would do more numbers, but it appears that, along with the prequel and sequel, this series isn't doing so hot in the Netflix chart (Picture: Screen Gems/Kobal/Shutterstock) With horror doing great numbers all around right now, you would think this Spanish supernatural horror would follow suit and yet it's left languishing at the bottom of the table. If you're wanting to give it a try, here's the premise: a couple's son begins exhibiting disturbing behavior and playing fantasy games shortly after the family revamps and moves into a formed orphanage. It's very highly rated by both critics (87%) and fans (86%) on Rotten Tomatoes (Picture: PicHouse/Everett/Shutterstock) With a cast including famous singer Hayley Kiyoko and Modern Family's Sarah Hyland, XOXO seems like a good fit for the platform - but this film has not done the numbers other Netflix original films have done. Rotten Tomatoes critics score it at 71%, so maybe you should be one of the few to give it a chance... (Picture: Sara Swaty Roger/Netflix) Unicorn Store is the perfect feel-good movie to stick on in the background of a rainy day - and with Brie Larson at the helm (both starring and directing), it should be getting more views. But, nada. Again, it has a respectable 66% on Rotten Tomatoes, so the viewers who are finding it clearly find it worth their time (Picture: NETFLIX) Starting Hilary Swank and House of the Dragon's Olivia Cooke, The Good Mother follows a journalist who, after the murder of her estranged son, forms an unlikely alliance with his pregnant girlfriend to track down those responsible for his murder. A quick thriller to put on at the weekend, it's strange that this movie hasn't clocked more views. So what did well?... (Picture: Everett/Shutterstock) 1. Back in Action - 164,700,0002. STRAW - 102,900,0003. The Life List - 95,500,0004. Exterritorial - 87,500,0005. Havoc - 86,900,0006. The Secret Life of Pets 2 - 74,500,0007. The Electric State - 74,200,0008. Counterattack / Contraataque - 71,300,0009. Ad Vitam - 69,800,00010. Despicable Me 4 - 69,800,000 (Picture: AP) 1. Adolescence: Limited Series 144,800,0002. Squid Game: Season 2 - 117,300,0003. Squid Game: Season 3 - 71,500,0004. Zero Day: Limited Series - 61,300,0005. Missing You: Limited Series - 58,000,0006. American Murder: Gabby Petito: Season 1 - 56,100,0007. Ms. Rachel: Season 1 - 53,400,0008. Sirens: Limited Series - 53,300,0009. The Night Agent: Season 2 - 53,200,00010. Ginny & Georgia: Season 3 - 48,100,000 (Picture: AP)

Disney slammed over alleged character rule after performer faints at theme park and doesn't take off costume

Disney has been fiercely slammed over an alleged rule that characters may never take off their costumes... after one dramatically fainted during a parade at the theme park and still stayed in character. Earlier this week, a video that showed someone dressed up as Winnie the Pooh's Tigger suffering from what appeared to be a medical emergency at Shanghai Disneyland Resort went viral on social media. The clip showed the character laying on the floor seemingly passed out, as hoards of people stood around them using fans to try to cool them off. Later, the character was seen attempting to stand as they loose their balance and fall back again, before one final clip showed them leaning on a fellow staffer as they slowly walked off. Throughout the entire terrifying ordeal, even when the character seemed to lose consciousness, their mask was never removed. It was reported that the incident had occurred during the parade at the theme park in China last weekend, and that the employee had collapsed after suffering from 'heatstroke.' It occurred on a particularly scorching hot day, where temperatures soared to the mid-90s, and it can get even hotter inside the thick costumes. After the video began circulating on TikTok and X, formerly Twitter, many viewers were left outraged that the other workers assisting didn't take off the mask to give the person inside some air and help them cool off. 'Couldn't they remove the helmet to make him get enough air? Why did they leave the helmet?' one alarmed user asked on TikTok. 'I think they can't do that in Disneyland? I mean there's probably rule about not showing your face in front of kids and etc. or you'll get fired or something,' someone else replied. 'It's a man's life, I don't think rules are that important right now,' another person fired back. 'The fact they kept the head on just to keep the kids believing is crazy,' read a fourth comment. A fifth said, 'Sorry but I think we shouldn't be risking someone's life to keep the magic of Disneyland. Get that costume off the poor person! Kids will get over it.' 'For those wondering "why not take of the mask" they can't. If they did, the person in the suit would most likely get fired,' a different user chimed in. 'Why? Because Disney is extremely strict with their mascots, and 'cause they need to keep the magic alive for the kids. I know dumb rule...' 'Disney values their brand more than their cast members,' scathed someone else. After the video began circulating online, many viewers were left outraged that the other workers didn't take off the mask to give the person inside some air and help them cool off The Daily Mail has reached out to Disney for comment. Shanghai Disney Resort said in a statement afterwards that the performer 'was immediately taken to the nearest infirmary,' where 'staff and park nurses were quick to attend' to them, per Inside the Magic. 'The cast member is now recovering, and their health is being closely monitored,' the site added. One TikToker who goes by Mouselets online previously claimed that Disney workers portraying characters will indeed be fired if they take off their heads at any time, even in an emergency. An 'insider from the world of Disney' also previously told that the same applies to characters on Disney cruises. 'As one of the most tightly controlled brands on the planet, Disney has some very strict protocols aboard their cruises – especially regarding emergency evacuations,' the source said. 'For instance, if a Disney cruise is to be abandoned, any employee who is in costume at the time of the alarm sounding must stay in costume. 'They are not permitted to remove their heads and ruin the illusion for guests, so therefore have to navigate the deck dressed as a giant Mickey, Minnie, Chip, Dale, etc. 'Elsewhere on the ship, it's somebody's job to head to the costume store and firmly lock it up. This is to ensure that if the ship does go down, the costumes go with it. 'They don't want to risk the empty costumes getting loose and floating up to the top – leaving children traumatized by seeing Goofy's lifeless body bobbing about on the surface.'
