Jamie Lee Curtis on Staying in Touch with Lindsay Lohan: 'There's R-E-E-L Life and Then There's R-E-A-L Life' (Exclusive)
"I think it's important, particularly with someone who is young in the movie business, if you connect with them, you have to let them know it's real," Curtis told PEOPLE
The pair starred as a mother and daughter who swap bodies in the popular film, and they will reprise their roles in a sequel hitting theaters this summerJamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are one dynamic duo!
Curtis, 66, and Lohan, 38, have stayed in touch and maintained a close bond in the years following 2003's Freaky Friday, a film in which they starred as a mother and daughter who swap bodies.
"Lindsay was 15, and as she's matured, we've stayed in contact our whole lives," Curtis told PEOPLE exclusively at the Amazon Upfront in New York City on May 12.
"I think it's important, particularly with someone who is young in the movie business, if you connect with them, you have to let them know it's real. There's R-E-E-L life, and then there's R-E-A-L life," she continued. "I wanted her to understand that there was a bridge and that I was real, and that she always could be real with me. And she was."
Added the Scarpetta star: "Through the course of her young life, we've stayed in contact."

According to Curtis, she and Lohan have a lot more that they can bond over nowadays than ever before.
"Now she is a mommy," the Oscar-winner stated, referring to Lohan's toddler son Luai, whom she shares with husband Bader Shammas. (Curtis shares two daughters with husband Christopher Guest: Ruby and Annie.)

Curtis added that a photo of herself and Lohan taken during one of their get-togethers sent the internet into a frenzy — and then got them thinking about a sequel to Freaky Friday.
"It was her visiting me, bringing her baby to visit me, that led to a picture of the two of us that I posted, and then the floodgate of people going, 'Oh my God, oh my God,' and then me calling Disney going, 'Hi! Lindsay's old enough to have a teenager. Let's go!' And then they did," she explained.
Freakier Friday, a soon-to-be-released sequel to the popular Disney film, sees Lohan and Curtis reprise their roles as mother-daughter duo Anna and Tess Coleman as they swap bodies with two others — 22 years after their first time doing so.
"The story picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis. Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice," a synopsis for the project teases.

Mark Harmon, Chad Michael Murray, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao are among the returning actors from 2003's original.
Vanessa Bayer, Julia Butters, Manny Jacinto, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Sophia Hammons, meanwhile, have joined in new roles, and Lohan's The Parent Trap costar Elaine Hendrix also makes a cameo.
Freakier Friday is in theaters on Aug. 8.

The director of Freakier Friday is already brainstorming for a third film, and her ideas definitely lend themselves to a pretty freaky outcome! The long-awaited sequel to the 2003 Disney film starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis hit theaters earlier this month. While the first movie (one of four film adaptations of a children's novel) centers around mom and daughter accidentally swapping bodies, the sequel gets a little more complicated. Adding a third generation into the mix, Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) swap bodies with Anna's daughter, Harper (Julia Butters), and soon-to-be stepdaughter, Lily (Sophia Hammons). Also in the mix are Manny Jacinto as Eric, Anna's fiancé, and Chad Michael Murray, reprising his role as Anna's ex-boyfriend, Jake. So what would a Freakiest Friday look like? "I mean, more swaps, right?" director Nisha Ganatra recently told ScreenRant. "Probably a six-way swap. We'd definitely have Manny Jacinto and Chad Michael Murray switching places. We all need that!" During an interview with Today FM, Curtis expressed an interest in completing the trilogy with a fourth generation involved. "If Harper has a child, and/or Lily, or if both of them have children and they're both 15, and I'm a great grandma, Lindsay would be a grandma," she suggested. Anna Faris, Regina Hall to star in 'Scary Movie' reboot after 20 years: 'Fab four is back'
Anna Faris and Regina Hall are returning to their roots. Not only are the Wayans brothers – Marlon, Shawn and Keenen Ivory Wayans – on board for "Scary Movie 6," two of the franchise's original stars will also reunite for the reboot, according to an announcement on Friday, Aug. 15. "The fab four is back. So excited to work and reunite with these two brilliant women," actor/writer Marlon Wayans wrote in an Instagram post. "We are so proud of all they have done since the inception of the scary movie franchise." He shared the announcement alongside a movie still from "Scary Movie 2," with Faris as Cindy, Marlon Wayans as Shorty, Shawn Wayans as Ray and Hall as Brenda. Hours earlier, Wayans had teased the announcement by posting a photo of Faris and Hall from the original 2000 film alongside a cryptic caption: "👀 SM6." Hall and Faris' last appearance in the horror parody franchise was 2006's "Scary Movie 4." They didn't appear in the 2013 standalone installment, "Scary Movie 5," which made a lukewarm showing at the box office. Both women found their breakout roles in "Scary Movie," with Faris taking her comedy chops to "My Super Ex-Girlfriend," "The House Bunny" and the CBS series "Mom." Leonardo DiCaprio reveals passing on this role as his 'biggest regret'
Leonardo DiCaprio not only feels younger than his current age of 50, but he also pines for a role he passed on when he was younger: Dirk Diggler. The Oscar-winning actor told Paul Thomas Anderson, the director of the 1997 film "Boogie Nights," his "biggest regret" is not doing that film with Anderson. The actor had a good excuse in that he had already committed to the role of Jack Dawson in "Titanic," which became a blockbuster when it hit theaters the same year. DiCaprio does star in Anderson's newest film, "One Battle After Another," which hits theaters Sept. 26. A discussion between the two appears in the September issue of Esquire. It was a profound movie of my generation. I can't imagine anyone but Mark (Wahlberg) in it. When I finally got to see that movie, I just thought it was a masterpiece. It's ironic that you're the person asking that question, but it's true." In the film, Wahlberg's role is that of Diggler, who becomes a porn star in the 1970s adult film industry. In a commentary track that appears on the DVD and Blu-ray Disc releases of the film, Anderson said he wanted Wahlberg or DiCaprio to play Diggler after seeing their performances in "The Basketball Diaries," notes movie blog Film School Rejects. Also in the Esquire interview, DiCaprio, who has been known to date much younger women, told Anderson he felt like he was 32 years old and "turned emotionally 35 last year." In the upcoming film, "One Battle After Another," DiCaprio plays a one-time revolutionary faced with rescuing his daughter, who has been captured by an alt-right group. Also appearing in the film are Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro. The film is his and Anderson's first together. "I've been wanting to work with you – Paul – for something like 20 years now, and I loved this idea of the washed-up revolutionary trying to erase his past and disappear and try and live some sort of normal life raising his daughter," DiCaprio told Anderson in their discussion. Discussing DiCaprio's role in the film, Anderson says, "He is a nice character, someone who starts out wanting to change the world on the far left but gets increasingly cranky and closed off as he gets older."
