Speaking to the media after offering bagina at the Kabini reservoir, Siddaramaiah dismissed BJP's recent criticism regarding his alleged snub of Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar during a government event in Mysuru. 'It is customary to welcome guests present at the event. Since the Deputy CM was not there at that moment, his name was not mentioned. BJP is just trying to create a rift between me and Shivakumar. Their efforts to gain political mileage through such claims are mere illusions,' he said.
Addressing concerns raised over GST-related tax notices being issued to small traders for digital payments, Siddaramaiah clarified that GST was a central government initiative, and the council functioned under its purview. 'Although it falls under the Centre, we will consult with the Union Government and the State's Commercial Tax Department to arrive at a fair resolution for small traders,' he assured.
Responding to media queries about the success of the recent Sadhana Samavesha, the Chief Minister said over two lakh people attended the public rally in Vijayanagara, demonstrating strong public support. 'BJP leaders only peddle lies, while they themselves are replicating our guarantee schemes across the country. Our government has already spent Rs52,000 crore to fulfill these guarantees,' he concluded.

UDISE, SARAL portals combined, reduces workload for schools
The Union Government's Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) portal and Maharashtra State Government's Systematic Administrative Reforms for Achieving Learning by Students (SARAL) portal have been combined for the academic year 2025, reducing non-teaching workload in schools and freeing up more time for teaching. A July 18 circular by Sanjay Yadav, state project director of Maharashtra Prathmik Shikshan Parishad, said that the information uploaded on the UDISE+ portal will be included in the SARAL portal, and care will be taken to ensure no student is left out of school. The deadline for schools to register the information online has been set at September 30. Information like the principal's name, phone number, and email id, along with the school's location, address, longitude and latitude, has to be entered in the online portal. Physical infrastructure like the school building, washrooms for boys and girls, drinking water facility, playground, library, electrical facilities, boundary walls, playground, computers, and laboratories must also be mentioned. Details of all students passing from class 2 to class 12 must also be updated. Benefits given to students like free uniforms, free textbooks, 25% RTE admissions, disabled students, scholarships, etc, must also be updated. The principal in-charge of a Pune Municipal Corporation-run school, who wished to remain anonymous, told The Indian Express, 'Combining UDISE+ and SARAL will definitely reduce the workload of principals and teachers. However, the government should reduce more online work as it eats into teachers' teaching time. Online information filling like DBT, VSK Chat bot, daily student attendance, midday meal attendance, etc, take up a lot of time and teachers are not able to give time to teaching adequately.' The circular mentioned that 95 per cent of students who were enrolled the previous academic year have had their Aadhar registered and that in the current academic year, the newly enrolled students' Aadhar cards must also be validated. It also mentioned that 86% students in the previous academic year had registered for the APAAR ID and for students not yet registered, permission should be obtained from the parents and the registration should be completed. It is important to note that the APAAR ID is not mandatory. A document on its website clearly stated, 'APAAR is not mandatory. While APAAR is a cornerstone initiative for enhancing academic tracking and flexibility, participation in the APAAR system is not compulsory. Institutions and students can choose to utilize this system to benefit from its features, such as holistic assessment and credit management, but there is no legal requirement mandating its use.' The circular states that 93% teachers have completed their Aadhar validation. Any teachers that face difficulties in validating their Aadhar should check if the details match. Teachers' educational details like or other qualifications must also be accurately recorded.

Farmer groups to step up campaign against FTA with U.S.
A general body meeting of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) held in New Delhi on Sunday (July 20, 2025) has warned the Union government against going ahead with the proposed trade agreement with the United States. The SKM said, in a statement on Monday (July 21, 2025), that the general body has also called for nationwide protests against the deal as it could act against the interests of farmers. The SKM will observe August 13 as 'Corporations Quit India Day' and said it seriously apprehends that the Narendra Modi government is surrendering to the diktats of the 'U.S. Imperialism' to sign the free trade agreement (FTA). The SKM said such an agreement could lead to opening up of agriculture, dairy and food markets and that will hurt the interests of the people. 'The FTA is supposed to come into effect by August 1, 2025. August 9 is the 83rd anniversary of the Quit India Day movement against British colonialism. To protest the BJP-led NDA government's moves to accept USA's pressures and increase imports of food and dairy items, including Genetically Modified foods and penetration of multinational corporations in food markets, SKM will issue a mass warning through these mass protests,' the statement said. 'Peasants will raise the slogan 'Corporations Quit India' on August 13 by organising tractor/ motor vehicle parades and protest demonstrations and burn effigies of the US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi,' the statement added. The meeting congratulated the leadership of the united trade union movement for the strike action on July 9. 'This was the 22nd general strike since the invention of neo-liberal policies and its success has filled confidence to all the democratic sections in the society that the entire working people are ready to fight back the anti-people policies of the ruling classes,' the statement said.
