Lucknow: At the centre of a row over their attire while visiting a mosque on Parliament Street in Delhi with party MPs last week,
Akhilesh Yadav
on Monday said whatever he wears for Parliament sessions will be his dress for every other venue.
"Jo Lok Sabha mein pahen ke ayenge wohi humari har jagah dress ho gi (Whatever I will wear to attend Lok Sabha will be my dress for everywhere else)," Akhilesh told reporters over objections raised by a Muslim cleric over the dress of SP MPs during the mosque visit.

and other SP MPs visited the mosque on the invite of party's Rampur MP Maulana Mohibullah Nadvi, who was earlier the Imam of this mosque. BJP had said Dimple Yadav was "inappropriately dressed" during the visit. The issue came under focus after photographs of the visit surfaced, showing SP members, including Dimple Yadav, seated inside the mosque. The controversy escalated after Maulana Sajid Rashid — president of the All India Imam Association — made an objectionable and misogynistic comment about Dimple Yadav who was wearing a sari at a meeting in the mosque and compared her to another woman SP MP, Iqra Hasan, who had covered her head.
Maulana Rashidi said it would have been better had Dimple Yadav covered her head. Taking serious exception to Maulana's comment, SP functionaries lodged an FIR against him at the Vibhuti Khand police station in Lucknow.

Matters pending before judiciary can't be discussed in Parliament: Rijiju on SIR debate
NEW DELHI: Matters pending before the judiciary cannot be discussed on the floor of the House, the govt asserted on Wednesday in Lok Sabha in response to continued demand from opposition parties for a discussion on the SIR exercise in Bihar. Addressing the House, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijuju said the functioning of autonomous institutions, such as the Election Commission, cannot be discussed in Parliament. Rijiju cited a 1988 ruling by then LS speaker Bal Ram Jhakar that under the existing constitutional provisions, the House cannot comment upon the actions of EC. "On the issue of special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar for which they (opposition members) are disturbing the House from first day of the session, we all know that the matter is under consideration of SC and as such it is sub judice, and hence, a discussion cannot be held on the subject," he said.

Opposition: Government evading SIR debate, has lot to hide
NEW DELHI: Asserting that the Modi govt's refusal to discuss the revision of Bihar's electoral rolls in Parliament implies it has "a lot to hide", the joint opposition on Wednesday announced it will march to the Election Commission on Aug 11 to lodge its protest against the "manipulation of votes". The INDIA bloc held a joint press conference at Vijay Chowk, two hours after a group demonstration in Parliament complex involving top leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Akhilesh Yadav, Kanimozhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Supriya Sule, Sanjay Raut, Gaurav Gogoi, Kodikunnil Suresh - in a bid to convey to the govt that it will not relent on its demand for the discussion which has brought Parliament's Monsoon session to a halt.
