Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia reviews Bharat 6G Alliance progress
Chairpersons, Vice-Chairpersons, and members of the Alliance's working groups shared comprehensive updates on strategic updates, initiatives, and action plans. The presentations highlighted significant advancements in areas such as Indigenous Radio Access Network (RAN) technology, intelligent and inclusive networks for rural connectivity, and cross-sectoral 6G applications in domains like agriculture, healthcare, and smart and sustainable deployment.
The Alliance has now expanded to a robust network of 80 member organisations, including over 30 startups, reflecting the growing national momentum for indigenous 6G innovation. The event served as a key platform for the Bharat 6G Alliance to present and interact with more than 100 telecom leaders and stakeholders about the progress made since the last review held in September 2024, along with innovations and collaborative efforts aimed at establishing India's leadership in 6G technologies.
Scindia stressed the government's steadfast commitment to nurturing next-generation communication technologies. He said that the government is fully committed to enabling this transition through robust policy frameworks, increased research funding.
He also said that the Bharat 6G alliance should create a focused and clear roadmap for driving the innovation in 6G technology and stressed the need for regular review of the progress at each work group's level to achieve our ambitious target to achieve 10% Intellectual Property Rights in 6G technology globally.

TSDSI, Bharat 6G Alliance ink pact to co-develop 6G standards
NEW DELHI: The Telecommunications Standards Development Society , India, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bharat 6G Alliance to synergise efforts for the implementation of the 'Bharat 6G Vision'. Under the pact, both will jointly cooperate to develop standards for the sixth-generation (6G) technology, address India's priorities in 6G and future technologies, and exchange information on activity roadmaps and work plans at global forums related to technologies as well as on technical activities carried out within each other's organisations. ' TSDSI is delighted to have entered into this partnership with B6GA and looks forward to mutual alignment and harmonisation of efforts in the respective areas of activities of TSDSI and B6GA, which will have a multiplier effect on research and development outcomes on the one hand and standard development and contributions to global standards on the other hand,' said AK Mittal, director-general, TSDSI. 'Through this collaboration, Bharat 6G Alliance and TSDSI commit to harmonising their activities in support of the government of India's 6G Vision. The partnership will strengthen India's participation in global standards development processes and ensure that national priorities are effectively represented in shaping the 6G and future technology landscape,' said Rajesh Kumar Pathak, director-general, Bharat 6G Alliance. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had released the Bharat 6G Vision document in March 2023 with the objectives to design, develop and deploy 6G network technologies that provide ubiquitous intelligent and secure connectivity for high-quality experiences to the world, in a bid to position India as a global leader in 6G technology by 2030. The Bharat 6G Alliance, in turn, is an alliance of domestic industry, academia, national research institutions and standards organisations to develop an action plan according to the Bharat 6G Vision. It has signed pacts with leading global 6G alliances to enhance global collaborations for the development of 6G wireless technologies. India has contributed to the International Telecommunications Union International Mobile Technology (IMT) 2030 framework, also called 6G, for the inclusion of 'Ubiquitous Connectivity' as one of the six usage scenarios of 6G and coverage, interoperability and sustainability as capabilities of 6G technology.

Testforce partners India's Amantya Technologies on 5G test & measurement solutions
NEW DELHI: Canada's Testforce has partnered with homegrown telecom startup Amantya Technologies to sell the latter's AutoRAN test automation solutions in Canada and the US. 'This collaboration marks a significant milestone in strengthening Testforce's 5G test and measurement portfolio across both Canada and the United States,' Testforce, a distributor of network test equipment , said in a joint statement. Amantya's AutoRAN solutions streamline validation of 5G radio access network (RAN) components, subsystems, and end-to-end networks. Unlike traditional simulators, it leverages real user equipment (UEs)—modems and smartphones—to expose real-world issues early in the development cycle. 'We're excited to bring Amantya's innovation to our customer base. AutoRAN fits perfectly into the growing demand for scalable, automated testing and aligns with our mission of delivering best-in-class solutions,' said Pete Alexander, a business development executive at Testforce USA. 'This collaboration combines Amantya's deep product engineering expertise with Testforce's strong customer relationships and regional presence—enabling us to jointly deliver high-value, real-world test automation solutions to operators and OEMs navigating the complexities of 5G,' said Indraneil Deb, VP (product management), Amantya Technologies.

Scindia holds day-long review with BSNL's 32 CGMs, sets performance checks
New Delhi: Union communications minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia on Monday held a day-long performance review with all 32 Chief General Managers (CGMs) of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) in Delhi, outlining a strategy to push the State-run telecom operator's growth, improve customer experience, and boost revenues. (Jitender Gupta) Joined by minister of state Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and senior Department of Telecommunications (DoT) officials, Scindia described BSNL's Annual Strategic Review & Planning Meet 2025-26 as the first such 'performance review and target-setting exercise' of its scale. Midway into the review, Scindia interacted with the media and said, 'We've already reviewed 25 of 32 circles in detail, examining what has ailed us in the past, where we stand today in customer base and ARPU (average revenue per user), and the steps to increase topline growth.' He emphasised that each CGM should function as the 'CEO of their circle,' driving accountability and local leadership. Scindia highlighted BSNL's return to net profit in FY24-25 after 18 years, with ₹260 crore in Q3 and ₹280 crore in Q4. Its operating EBITDA margin doubled to nearly ₹5,100 crore, while capex hit ₹25,000 crore, he added. Circles such as Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana, and Chhattisgarh were singled out for their strong performance and will present case studies in the next quarterly review. The meeting also reviewed BSNL's 'customer-first' push, including its 4G rollout, spam-free network initiative, Wi-Fi roaming service, infotainment platforms for FTTH and mobile users, and enterprise offerings like VPN and leased lines. Scindia announced that monthly reviews will be conducted by MoS Sekhar, with quarterly reviews chaired by him. 'Through steering BSNL, we are hoping to provide new telecom opportunities to every single citizen of our country and take forward the aspiration and dream of our Prime Minister in terms of making our state a robust player in the telecom and digitalisation story of India,' he told the media. The telco also added nearly 45 lakh customers over the past year, said Scindia, calling the achievement a 'dream come true.' Despite the turnaround, BSNL continues to operate in a market dominated by private telecom players. As per monthly data uploaded by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), private service providers controlled 92.14% of India's wireless (mobile) subscriber base, while BSNL and MTNL together held 7.86%, according to latest data till May 31, 2025. BSNL also saw a decline of 1.35 lakh mobile subscribers and 46,054 wireline subscribers in May 2025. In machine-to-machine (M2M) cellular connections, where Airtel leads with a 54.31% share, BSNL accounted for just 4.63%. However, BSNL remains the third-largest fixed wired broadband provider with 4.32 million subscribers, behind Reliance Jio (13.51 million) and Airtel (9.26 million). Its total wired broadband base of 29.99 million places it fourth overall in the fixed-line segment.
