Lashing out at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh, Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav alleged that it was conspiring to dismantle all minority institutions and target both Muslims and Christian organisations. Addressing a press conference at the SP headquarters in Lucknow on Friday, Akhilesh said: 'The BJP follows the British policy of divide and rule. Madrasas are being shut down, land records are being scrutinised, and bulldozers are being used on madrasa properties. The BJP is not just targeting Muslims, but is now trying to enter Christian institutions too. Lakhs of posts are vacant across departments, including two lakh in the education department. Yet the government boasts of a trillion-dollar economy and a developed India. Does this happen in a developed country?'
On the inauguration of Gorakhpur Link Expressway by chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday, Akhilesh said, 'The trillion-dollar budget is not being spent on education, health and welfare for the poor, but on the highway of loot.'
'The 91-kilometre expressway has been built at a cost of more than ₹ 7,000 crore. It is not an expressway, but a four-lane highway. If you want to know the difference, pick up a book and see what the Indian Road Congress (IRC) says. Is this expressway built as per IRC standards? Will the government take action against those who flouted the norms?' asked Akhilesh.
On the recent issue of alleged anomalies in transfers, Akhilesh said, 'There is a dispute as officers and ministers want to work as per their own free will. A deputy CM has complained that the officer of his department did not show him the list of transfers.'
The SP chief alleged corruption in departments such as education, PWD, and urban development. 'There is a fixed rate for transfers. Despite Smart City funds from both Delhi and Lucknow, cities like Mathura, Agra and Unnao are struggling with clogged drains. The level of corruption in U.P. today is unprecedented,' he alleged.
Akhilesh further alleged that the BJP was against PDA (Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak) and reservation. 'The rules of reservation are not being followed in recruitments. We all have to come together and protect reservation and the Constitution given by Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. PDA is our emotional slogan and it connects people,' the SP chief said.

After an intense and tiring campaign in the hot and sultry weather, candidates from different political parties finally took some time off. While some leaders chose to relax and spend time with their families, others also held some informal interactions with their party workers. For Sanjeev Arora, whose campaign lasted over 3.5 months — as he was announced the candidate in the last week of February—Friday was a much-needed pause. 'I allowed myself a rare indulgence — I slept in and started the day slow. Upon waking up, I requested my team and the Municipal Corporation to begin the process of removing all campaign-related material, including posters, wall wraps, and stickers across the constituency,' he said. He added that he had a light breakfast. 'And more importantly, spent quality time with my family — something I had deeply missed during the campaign. I was finally able to be present with my grandchildren, Aria, Anhad, and Ivaan. Hearing them say, 'Dadu, it's so nice to finally see you — we were only seeing you on posters and hoardings!' was a heartfelt reminder of how much time I had been away,' he said, adding that they had lunch together as a family, and he took them all out to their favourite restaurant. Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who had a heated campaign, had a sore throat on Friday. He said, 'I am meeting all my friends who had helped me throughout the campaign despite all odds. But Friday's meeting was just a thanksgiving gesture. I wanted to have a cup of tea with them and we discussed nothing political.' Earlier in the day, he had also spent time with his workers at his office inside his house in Model Gram. Ashu, along with his wife Mamta Ashu, spent the evening with friends sipping their favourite 'kadak chai'. When asked about the outcome of the poll, he said, 'Will accept the result as it is.' BJP candidate Jiwan Gupta also spent time with his family, even entering his home kitchen to make a cup of tea for himself and his wife. 'We hadn't sat together for even 5 minutes in the past many days. So, we decided to drink tea together after a lazy start to the day.' SAD candidate Parupkar Singh Ghumman, however, hit the gym on Friday morning—something he had been missing for the past many days. He said, 'I had been a regular to the gym for the past four years, either early in the morning or late at night… but as I couldn't exercise all these days, I want to get back to my fitness routine yet again. As I am a diabetic, I take care of my health by doing regular exercise apart from focusing on diet.' The bypoll for Ludhiana West Assembly, which was held on Thursday, saw 51.33% polling. Counting will take place on June 23. A post poll scrutiny of Form-17 A and other documents for Ludhiana West by-poll was conducted by General Observer Rajeev Kumar, Returning Officer Rupinder Pal Singh and the representatives of the candidates at Khalsa College For Women. The scrutiny was carried out to check the polling station where any significant event EVM related or otherwise was reported, whether polling took place in the absence of any polling agent, polling stations where the number of electors who cast their vote using documents other than electronic photo identity card ( EPIC) and exceeding 25% of the total votes cast in the polling station, polling stations where more than 10% of electors have been identified as ASD turned up to vote, polling stations where polling percentage is plus 15% or minus 15 % than the average polling percentage of the AC and others.

Telangana HC pulls up govt over delay in opening Alampur govt hospital
Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Friday came down heavily on the state govt for the 18-month delay in operationalising a 100-bed govt hospital in Alampur, Jogulamba Gadwal district , despite the facility being fully constructed and equipped. A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Renuka Yara was hearing a PIL filed by Ramchandra Reddy, a social activist and politician from the district. The court expressed concern over the prolonged inaction and directed the govt and relevant departments to file a detailed counter-affidavit within two weeks, explaining the reasons for the delay. The petitioner informed the court that the hospital was built with ₹21 crore sanctioned in 2021, and construction was completed by Oct 2023. However, despite being fully equipped, the hospital has not been made operational. He added that the unused building is now lying vacant and vulnerable to misuse by anti-social elements. Highlighting the demographic and social context, the petitioner noted that Alampur is an SC reserved constituency, home to a large population from Dalit and Backward Classes communities. The absence of a functioning public hospital, he argued, violates residents' fundamental right to health , as guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution. Due to the non-functional hospital, locals are reportedly forced to travel long distances-to Kurnool, Gadwal, or even Hyderabad-for basic medical care. Taking note of these submissions, Justice Sujoy Paul observed that despite constructing a 100-bed hospital, the state had neither appointed staff nor operationalised services, leaving costly equipment idle and unutilised. The case will be taken up for further hearing after the state submits its explanation.

Wife's WhatsApp chats obtained via 'spy app' used as valid evidence about her extramarital affair in Divorce case, what Madhya Pradesh HC said
In a crucial ruling, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has reportedly permitted a husband to present his wife's private WhatsApp chats as evidence in a divorce case, even though they were obtained without her consent. The case arose when the husband, using a special app (spy app) installed on his wife's phone without her knowledge, accessed her private WhatsApp conversations. These chats allegedly revealed an extramarital affair, prompting the husband to seek divorce on grounds of cruelty and adultery. The wife's legal team objected, arguing that presenting the chats violated her under Article 21 of the Constitution and Sections 43, 66, and 72 of the Information Technology Act, 2000. They further contended that evidence obtained illegally should be inadmissible. Rejecting these arguments, the High Court emphasized that while the right to privacy is a fundamental right under Article 21, it is not absolute and is subject to limitations. Citing Supreme Court judgments, including the Sharda and Puttaswami cases, the court noted that statutory provisions like Section 14 of the Family Courts Act and Section 122 of the Indian Evidence Act permit limited invasions of privacy in the interest of justice. The court framed the issue as a conflict between two fundamental rights under Article 21: the wife's right to privacy and the husband's right to a fair trial. 'A litigating party has a right to bring relevant evidence before the court,' the court stated, adding that denying this opportunity would undermine the Family Courts Act's intent. If the chats are deemed genuine, they could support the husband's case for divorce on grounds of cruelty and adultery. This ruling has sparked debate over the balance between privacy rights and the pursuit of justice in family disputes, with potential implications for how digital evidence is handled in Indian courts.
