Still nursing a back injury, Matthew Stafford doesn't join practice with Rams as originally planned
The 37-year-old Stafford has yet to practice in training camp or the preseason this summer while dealing with back soreness. Coach Sean McVay said last weekend that Stafford would participate in individual work Monday morning, but Stafford instead attended the practice in street clothes at the Rams' training complex in Woodland Hills.
McVay has repeatedly downplayed the severity of Stafford's latest injury, claiming the quarterback could play in games if the Rams were in the regular season. Stafford went through a lengthy workout last Saturday before the Rams' preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, making roughly 70 throws of all lengths.
But the Rams are remaining cautious with their Super Bowl-winning quarterback at the start of his 17th NFL season. Stafford led the Rams to the playoffs in three of his first four seasons on the West Coast.
Jimmy Garoppolo is the Rams' backup quarterback. Neither Garoppolo nor Stafford will play in the preseason, leaving the Rams' three exhibition games to Stetson Bennett, who played well in the Rams' 31-21 win over Dallas.

Jets and Giants fans will immediately notice the crystal-clear images on the four video boards which feature an improved 8MM high-resolution LED for higher-contrast, crisp on-screen content and better viewing angles. Work to replace the tunnel entrance boards, the sideline-facing game-in-progress screens, the 360° fascia ribbon board, and the remaining video boards and displays on the concourses, plazas, and fan activation zones will continue through the NFL season and be completed in early 2026. The tunnel entrance boards will feature the same technology as the video boards, and the sideline-facing game-in-progress screens and 360° fascia ribbon board will have 10MM LED resolution for even sharper graphics and stats. Former Alabama offensive lineman, current NFL star receives injury update
Best-case scenario: Eagles Pro-Bowl guard Landon Dickerson will undergo what's being described as 'a minor procedure' on the meniscus in his right knee in the coming days. Dickerson then will be considered week to week, with the goal of returning for the Thursday night, Sept. 4… After suffering an injury toward the end of practice Sunday night, an update has now come for former star Alabama Crimson Tide and current Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Landon Dickerson. According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, Dickerson suffered a meniscus injury to his right knee, and is set to undergo a minor procedure in the coming days. Per the report, Dickerson will also be considered week-to-week, with a goal to return to action for the Eagles season opener on Sept. 4 against the Dallas Cowboys. A former second round pick from the 2021 NFL draft, Dickerson is one of the more accomplished former Alabama players currently playing in the NFL, and will be entering year five in the league this fall. Since entering the NFL, Dickerson is a four-year starter at left guard for the Eagles in which he is a three-time Pro Bowl selection. Dickerson was also a starter on Philadelphia's Super Bowl winning team a year ago. At Alabama, Dickerson was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide in 2019-20 who won the Rimington Trophy in 2020. Rams announce location, start time for joint practice session with Saints
This should be fun -- the New Orleans Saints will share the practice field with the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday, Aug. 14. This two-hour session will start at 11 a.m. PT/1 p.m. CT, at the Dignity Health Sports Park practice fields in Carson, Calif. It doesn't appear that this will be open to the public. Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters over the weekend that both teams were in discussions about scheduling a joint practice after the Los Angeles Chargers backed out; the Saints will be in California this week before returning home to New Orleans for their next preseason game. His counterpart Kellen Moore said the decision to participate would come down to team health, so the Saints must feel comfortable with taking that risk. For their part, the Rams are in good health, except for one major name: Matthew Stafford. The team's starting quarterback has been missing for most of the summer, including Tuesday's practice session, while dealing with a persistent back injury. He's been seen here or there in street clothes but lately has been sequestered in a zero-gravity restorative Ammortal chamber. Expect a lot of backups Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett on Thursday. Joint practice sessions are always a great opportunity for players to work against different opponents with unique skill sets. The Saints haven't had a chance to do that this summer, so stay tuned for updates from practice.
