Indian Express28-05-2025
Two men were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly assaulting a tribal youth and tying him to an electric pole in Attappadi, in this district, after accusing him of obstructing their vehicle, police said.
The arrested men have been identified as Vishnudas, 31, and Reji Mathew, 21.
They work as a driver and assistant for a milk collection vehicle.
According to the complaint, the victim, 19-year-old Siju from Chittoor Unnati, was walking along the Chittoor–Puliyara road in the afternoon of May 24 when he allegedly slipped and fell near a passing pickup van.
The accused claimed he had fallen deliberately to block the road and had damaged the vehicle.
The two men then allegedly tied him to a roadside electric pole and left him there for about 30 minutes, until passers-by released him.
Siju is currently being treated at a hospital, police said.
The men have been booked under relevant sections of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), they added.

2 Kota men to do community service for drinking in public

Jaipur: Two men caught drunk in public in Kota were sentenced to community service instead of jail under the new Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). SP (Kota) Tejaswani Gautam said that due to the efforts of Railway Colony and Bhorkheda police stations, the district's first, and possibly Rajasthan's first, case was ordered by the court to be punished with community service. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Gautam said both men were booked under Section 355 of the BNS for misconduct in public under the influence of alcohol. In the first case, she said that Mukesh Kumar was stopped during a police drive after a breath analyser showed his alcohol level far above the permissible limit. He was booked under Section 355 of the BNS. On Monday, the court sentenced him to two days of community service at Government Mahatma Gandhi Higher Secondary School in Sogariya. He will carry out cleaning and plant maintenance on Aug 25 and 26, beginning at 7.30am. The school principal has been directed to monitor his attendance and submit a compliance report to the court. In the second case, Gautam said, accused Imran was found with a high level of alcohol. Since it was his first offence, the court Tuesday sentenced him to community service at Government Satellite Hospital, Rampura. He will assist with cleaning, patient care, and other social work at the hospital on Aug 25 and 26. The medical officer has been instructed to provide proof of his attendance to the court. Gautam said the BNSS includes community service as an innovative punishment for minor crimes. Section 23 defines it as work ordered by a court for the benefit of the community, without remuneration. "This approach emphasises restorative justice and aims to reform offenders rather than simply incarcerating them," she said.

2 thieves targeting locked homes in Indiranagar held

Lucknow: The Lucknow police on Wednesday arrested two thieves who allegedly carried out multiple thefts in the area, recovering a cache of stolen gold and silver ornaments, cash, clothes and an auto-rickshaw used by them. "They roamed in Indiranagar during the day in the auto, pretending to look for passengers but actually searching for locked houses. At night, they returned to these houses, broke open doors and lockers using chisels and iron rods and stole valuables," said DCP, east, Shashank Singh. "By day, they appeared like ordinary men — one driving the auto and another working as a labourer. By night, they turned into burglars, breaking into locked houses," said ACP, Ghazipur, Anindya Vikram Singh. Accused Ravindra Singh (37) and Raju Kashyap (29) were childhood acquaintances who reconnected in Lucknow and hatched a plan to make easy money. The arrests came after the police linked two major theft cases, one on July 7 and another on Aug 18, in which jewellery, cash and ancestral silverware were stolen. CCTV footage from the area revealed an auto near the crime scene, giving the first big lead. "With the help of surveillance footage and intelligence, we traced the auto and nabbed the duo near Khurramnagar on Picnic Spot Road," said the DCP. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Use an AI Writing Tool That Actually Understands Your Voice Grammarly Install Now Undo Besides gold and silver jewellery, Rs 2,870 in cash and several tools were also recovered from the arrested thieves. According to the police, the men lived modestly and took up odd labour jobs to maintain their cover. "They created a dual life, earning a little from driving and labour, while relying mainly on thefts for money," the police said. "The accused were booked under relevant sections of the BNS and sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is on," said ADCP, east, Pankaj Singh. Khandwa elderly couple loses Rs 50 lakh in 13-day ‘digital arrest'

Indore: An elderly couple, who run a utensils shop, were virtually held hostage for 13 days at their home in Pandhana tehsil of Khandwa by cybercrooks posing as police officers. The couple, who lost their life savings of Rs 50 lakh in the digital arrest fraud, realised they had been duped only when the wife narrated the incident to her family members. The crooks coerced the couple into breaking their fixed deposits (FDs) and transferring the money. Khandwa SP Manoj Kumar Rai said, the fraud came to light when the wife visited her brother on Janmashtami and finally narrated the ordeal to her family. "A case has been registered against the fraudsters under relevant sections of IT Act and BNS while an investigation has been launched based on the couple's complaint. The police are now tracing the bank accounts to which the money was transferred," Rai told TOI. It all started on July 18 when the couple received a call from a man, who identified himself as a police officer from Colaba police station in Mumbai. The man accused them of being involved in a serious crimes — murder, kidnapping, and fraud — using a SIM card registered under their name. The scammer told them that they were under investigation and needed to cooperate, or they would have to travel to Mumbai, the SP said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like If you have a mouse, this game will keep you up all night. The fraudsters conducted video calls that showed what appeared to be a police station with officers in uniform. The scammers convinced them that their finances also needed to be investigated. On July 21, the couple was instructed to go to their bank and withdraw a Rs 30 lakh fixed deposit and transfer the money to an account provided by them. In case of enquiry by manager at the bank, the couple was instructed to say they needed the money for a property purchase. Four days later, on July 25, the fraudsters again sent them to the bank to withdraw another FD worth Rs 19.50 lakh, which was also transferred to the scammers' accounts in Hyderabad and Chandigarh. After siphoning off almost all their money, a scammer posing as a 'DSP' conducted a video call and told the couple he understood their situation and could help with bail. He extorted an additional Rs 70,000 from them for the supposed bail. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
