Farmers end protest seeking lift irrigation project after assurance from Minister
The Minister met the protesting farmers on Sunday and listened to their grievance. He then spoke to managing director of Krishna Bhagya Jal Nigam K.P. Mohanraj.
Mr. Patil assured the farmers that the State government will re-start work on the project in three-four months.
This project was planned and approved in 2014-15 when Siddaramaiah was the Chief Minister in his first term. However, the work was halted due to some technical difficulties and confusion over water sharing. Now that Mr. Siddaramaiah is back in power, it will be taken up immediately, Mr. Patil said.
'I will instruct officials to complete the Detailed Project Report (DPR) within the next three months. Work on field canals will be started in consultation with farmers in four months. I will request the Chief Minister to make an official announcement in the Cabinet meeting scheduled in Vijayapura in September,' he said.
'The welfare of farmers is a priority of our government and we are always committed to making their dreams come true,' he said.
Sri Shivacharya Swami of Almel Math, MLA Rajugouda Patil, the former MLA Sharanappa Sungar, farmers leaders Arvind Kulkarni, Prabhugouda Lingadalli, Subhash Chayagol, Prabhu Biradar, Kashinath Talwar and others were present.

Bus lanes quietly dropped from Bengaluru tunnel road plan? ‘Private road for the privileged,' says PC Mohan
As debate intensifies over Bengaluru's proposed tunnel road project, Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan on Friday took to social media to criticise the final Detailed Project Report (DPR), which he claimed quietly drops bus lanes, a move he described as discriminatory and exclusionary. PC Mohan went on to highlight the financial burden such a toll would impose on average citizens. (X/Maheshwar Rao.M, IAS) In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mohan questioned the project's intent and accessibility, calling it a private expressway for the privileged. 'Tunnel road final DPR quietly drops bus lanes, once again making it clear that the tunnel is only for those rich people who can afford ₹660 toll, not for the common Bengalurean. On one hand, they talk of free bus rides; on the other, they erase bus infrastructure itself,' he wrote. (Also Read: Toll to kick in on Karnataka stretch of Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway: Car users to pay up to ₹190) Mohan went on to highlight the financial burden such a toll would impose on average citizens. 'How many Bengalureans can actually afford ₹660 a day? That's nearly ₹20,000 a month just to use this tunnel. This is not public infrastructure but a private expressway for the privileged, funded by taxpayers,' he said, calling the project "a discriminatory, exclusionary, and anti–public transport move." Tejasvi Surya also slams project as a 'vanity scheme' Mohan's remarks echo the long-standing criticism from Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who has labelled the tunnel project a "vanity scheme" designed to benefit only a small section of the city's elite. Surya has repeatedly argued that the ₹18,500 crore project, which proposes an 18-km tunnel connecting key neighbourhoods, disproportionately serves car-owning residents of areas like Koramangala and Sadashivnagar. 'It will benefit just 10% of Bengaluru's car-owning elite while 90% of the city continues to suffer from inadequate public transport,' Surya had said in earlier posts. He also questioned the project's staggering cost, comparing it unfavourably with other major infrastructure works like the Mumbai Coastal Road, the Atal Tunnel, and the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway. 'Will they build it with golden bricks?' he asked in a previous social media post. With several leaders from the opposition party expressing strong opposition to the project, the tunnel road proposal continues to face growing scrutiny, not only over its feasibility and cost, but also over its lack of inclusivity and departure from the city's stated commitment to strengthening public transport. Kapil Patil challenges development claims by sitting Bhiwandi MP, demands proof of work
THANE: Former Union Minister of State and former Member of Parliament from Bhiwandi, Kapil Patil, took a sharp dig at the current MP, Suresh (Balya Mama) Mhatre, challenging him to provide proof of his claimed development work. At a press conference organised to present a decade-long record of development in the Bhiwandi Lok Sabha constituency, Patil questioned the credibility of the current MP's recent statements. 'If the present Member of Parliament completed as many development projects in the last year as he claims, then let him show them to the people—and we will be the first to honour him,' Patil said. Patil engaged in a detailed discussion with journalists on key issues such as the prominent development works over the past decade, the Kalyan Metro, the proposed indoor stadium at Subhash Maidan, the renaming of Navi Mumbai Airport to D.B. Patil, the Lok Sabha elections, the poor condition of the Bhiwandi-Wada highway, the Marathi-Non-Marathi dispute, the KDMC elections, and the slow progress of the SATIS project under the Smart City initiative in the Kalyan station area. 'If someone is genuinely working for development, it doesn't matter which party they belong to. If someone is truly working in the public interest and shows us the work, we should not have any resentment about it. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Pirates Climb Aboard Cargo Ship - Watch What The Captain Did Next Tips and Tricks Undo Over the past ten years, we approved development projects worth at least Rs 28 to 29 thousand crores, and you will see that all these projects are underway. And they claim that all these projects were completed in one year, so we should also ask them to show at least a couple of the projects they have done,' Kapil Patil criticised the current MP Balya Mama Mhatre without naming him. About 85% of the metro work in Bhiwandi city is complete, and Patil criticised the previous coalition govt for the delay in the metro coming to Kalyan due to their indifference. He accused the coalition govt of completely neglecting the approval of the revised DPRs for both Bhiwandi and Kalyan, which led to the delay of the Kalyan Metro. However, he expressed confidence that the current Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, recently approved both DPRs, and the work on the Kalyan Metro will begin soon. Box: "An investigation should be conducted into the organisation using the name of Rajmata Jijamata for corruption..." Rajmata Jijamata not only shaped Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj but also the entire Maharashtra. Therefore, she holds a place of respect and reverence in everyone's heart. However, if a contractor organisation is using Jijamata's name for corruption and fraudulent work, the state govt should take action to prevent them from using this name, Kapil Patil criticised the Jijau organisation and its head, Nilesh Sambre, without naming him over the poor construction of the Bhiwandi-Wada road. Due to the deplorable condition of the much-discussed Bhiwandi-Wada road, 21 people died so far, and many have been disabled. Several social organisations have also protested against the poor condition of this road. Additionally, Kapil Patil indicated that he corresponded with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis regarding all these matters, and an investigation will commence at the appropriate time.
