CHICAGO (AP) — Josh Naylor's third hit of the game drove in automatic runner Geraldo Perdomo in the 11th inning with the go-ahead run and the Arizona Diamondbacks defeated the Chicago Cubs 3-2 on Sunday to avoid a series sweep.
Naylor grounded a single to right for his second RBI. The top of 11th ended when Naylor tried to steal home and was thrown out by reliever Jordan Wicks (0-1).

Shelby Miller (2-0) pitched two scoreless innings and for Drey Jameson tossed a 1-2-3 11th for his first save.
In a game twice delayed by rain for a total of 98 minutes, the teams exchanged runs in the 10th.
Chicago automatic runner Dansby Swanson scored from second on Nico Hoerner's single to tie it at 2. Tim Tawa came home from second in the top half when Hoerner couldn't handle reliever Wick's throw on a sacrifice bunt.
Michael Busch had an RBI. The Diamondbacks limited the Cubs, who lead the majors with 145 runs, to four hits.
Diamondbacks starter Merrill Kelly allowed one run and two over 5 2/3 innings. He left with right leg cramping after retiring 16 hitters in a row.

Corbin Carroll went 0 for 5, ending a streak of reaching base in 27 games dating to Sept. 23.
Cubs starter Jameson Taillon allowed one run and three hits in five innings.

Chicago third baseman Jon Berti limited Lourdes Gurriel Jr. to infield single with a diving stop in the sixth, then grabbed Tawa's liner to end the inning, preserving a 1-all tie.

CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) — The Christchurch-based Crusaders will host the Super Rugby final for a record eighth time after edging the Blues 21-14 on Friday to end the Blues' one-year title reign. The Crusaders improved their winning record in home playoffs to 31-0 in a thrilling match that ended in the 85th minute. They will now face the winner of Saturday's second semifinal between the Hamilton-based Chiefs and ACT Brumbies as they attempt to win the Super Rugby title for the 13th time. The Crusaders rallied from two tries and a man down after 21 minutes to level the score at 14-14 by halftime. They took the lead for the first and last time with Will Jordan's second try of the match in the 70th minute and held on under immense pressure. The Blues held the ball through 40 phases on the Crusaders' goalline after the fulltime siren, won a penalty and attacked again before backrower Christian Lio-Willie won the turnover that ended the match. The Crusaders were then reduced to 14 men when center Braydon Ennor was sin-binned after a head clash with Hoskins Sotutu. Blues center Rieko Ioane scored under the posts in the absence of his marker in the 21st minute and Beauden Barrett converted to make the score 14-0. The Crusaders scored through backrower Tom Christie in the 24th minute and when the Blues were down to 14 men with Joshua Fusitua in the sin-bin, scored through Jordan to level the scores. Jordan was outstanding in the aerial contest and dangerous around the field. The Crusaders weathered pressure near their goalline between the 46th and 51st minutes before relieving that pressure with the first of a series of scrum penalties. The Blues were forced to use hooker Ricky Riccitelli at loosehead prop temporarily after exhausting their prop resources. After a series of eight consecutive penalties in the Blues' 22, Jordan scored the match-winning try. The Blues then threw everything at the Crusaders to keep the match and their title defense alive but couldn't score again. 'We started very well but we let them back in and they were good at what they pride themselves on around their set piece,' Blues captain Patrick Tuipulotu said. The 18-year-old Kostoulas signed a five-year contract, Brighton said, with the transfer fee reportedly set at an initial 35 million euros ($40.4 million). They have not lost a series since May 11, gliding through a sea of sub-par .500 ballclubs on their way to the co-best record in the National League. Naturally, the North Side is brimming with enthusiasm, especially given how the last five years have transpired. However, that excitement is heavily tied to the health of Kyle Tucker. Advertisement The three-time All-Star, who arrived in Chicago via an offseason trade with the Houston Astros, jammed his right finger while attempting to steal second base in Sunday's 7-3 win versus the Cincinnati Reds. He eventually exited the game, raising some concern among a fan base that has already seen Justin Steele suffer a season-ending elbow injury and fellow starting pitcher Shota Imanaga miss the last month with a hamstring strain. Fortunately, Tucker's situation seems much more promising. 'I think he's going to be OK,' longtime analyst Bruce Levine told 670 The Score on Monday. 'They took X-rays as you said. He's OK, but he really got beat up this weekend… This is one tough baseball player.' Levine reinforces the encouraging update that Cubs manager Craig Counsell provided after the game. The World Series champion is set to enter free agency after this season, where he is expected to sign a monster contract somewhere in the range of $500-600 million. Considering the undeniable impact he has had on the Cubs to this point, management is under enormous pressure to make a long-term commitment to Tucker. For now, though, the focus is on solidifying control in the NL Central. Chicago leads the St. Louis Cardinals by four games and will look to stay hot when it rolls into D.C. to face the Washington Nationals (28-31).
