Calling India's action "just and necessary", RSS backed Operation Sindoor and urged citizens to stay alert against anti-national conspiracies aimed at disrupting harmony
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday issued a strong statement backing the Central government and Indian Armed Forces in the wake of Operation Sindoor — a series of precision military strikes targeting Pakistan-based terror infrastructure following the April 22 Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians, most of them Hindu pilgrims.
Congratulating the leadership for decisive action against 'Pak-sponsored terrorists and their supporting ecosystem", the RSS said the strikes have 'served justice to the aggrieved families and the entire country" and have 'enhanced the morale and self-respect of the nation."
The statement, signed by RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat and Sarkaryavah Dattatreya Hosabale, called the operation 'necessary and inevitable for the country's security," and pledged full support to India's efforts to dismantle terror infrastructure and its support systems inside Pakistan.
The statement comes amid escalating tensions. On the night of May 7, hours after India struck nine terror hubs inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, Pakistan launched missiles at Amritsar, which were successfully intercepted by India's S-400 and Akash air defence systems. In retaliation, India targeted and destroyed Pakistan's air defence systems in Lahore.
A day later, on the evening of May 8, Pakistan attempted a broader escalation by launching a barrage of missiles, drones, and artillery fire at multiple Indian cities along the western front. According to sources, all incoming threats were neutralised by India's air defence systems. In a calibrated response, India struck Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and Sialkot, sending a strong message of deterrence.
The RSS condemned 'savage, inhuman attacks" by the Pakistani army on religious sites and civilian settlements along the border, expressing 'heartfelt condolences to the families of victims." The organisation reaffirmed its stance that 'in this hour of national crisis, the entire country stands with the government and armed forces in spirit and action."
Emphasising civic responsibility, the RSS urged citizens to comply fully with instructions from the government and local administration and to be alert to any attempts to disturb national unity and social harmony.
'We all have to be cautious and not let any conspiracy of anti-national forces succeed in disrupting social unity and harmony," the statement said.
The RSS also called on the public to extend support to the armed forces and civic authorities, wherever and however required, and to actively strengthen national security efforts.

Sangli suicide: No dues owed as he was a sub-contractor, says govt

MUMBAI A day after a Sangli-based contractor died by suicide allegedly over pending dues of ₹ 1.40 crore for work related to the state's Jal Jeevan Mission, the government claimed he was a sub-contractor, and not appointed by the government. (Representative photo) (HT) A day after a Sangli-based contractor died by suicide allegedly over pending dues of ₹1.40 crore for work related to the state's Jal Jeevan Mission, the government claimed he was a sub-contractor, and not appointed by the government. The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and contractors' body have however termed the death as 'murder, a consequence of mismanagement of the state's finances'. Deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, who also holds the finance portfolio, said, 'The incident is unfortunate, but he was a sub-contractor and the government had no role in paying his fees. There is a process for releasing contractors' bills. We will, however, probe the death.' While minister of water supply and sanitation, Gulabrao Patil, who belongs to the Shiv Sena, concurred with Pawar, officials from the department told HT anonymously that payment of dues amounting to ₹3200 crore for Jal Jeevan Mission was sent to the finance department in June, which responded only a few days ago citing paucity of funds for their inability to release the money. Opposition, assn criticize govt Maharashtra State Contractors' Association expressed displeasure over statements by Pawar and Patil, and shared details with HT about the deceased having completed four schemes for the project in Walwa and two in Shirala tehsils, and was indeed debt ridden. 'It is insensitive to see ministers washing their hands off the incident just because he was a sub-contractor. For the last one year, all contractors and associations have been raising their voice against pending dues. Yet, the government has not held any meeting over the issue related to the state's finances,' said Milind Bhosale, president of the association. Slamming the government, MVA leaders pointed to funds being diverted for populist schemes such as the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut called it 'murder' and sought the attention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Mr Prime Minister, look at this innocent face. He took his life yesterday. Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, he completed works worth ₹1.40 crore, taking a loan of ₹80 lakh. But the government hasn't paid his dues, forcing him to take this extreme step,' Raut posted on X. Taking a dig at Ladki Bahin spends, NCP (SP) chief spokesperson Jitendra Awhad said, 'The scheme is not viable for the government. Thousands of crores were allocated for it, which have affected other government expenditures. I request the chief minister to look into the matter personally.' 'After farmers, now contractors are dying by suicide,' said Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar. 'This government pays thousands of crores to big contractors but has no sympathy for small players working in each district for government schemes.'

Savarkar case: UP govt accuses Rahul Gandhi of deliberately spreading hatred

The Uttar Pradesh government has filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of deliberately spreading hatred by commenting against Hindutva Ideologue, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, during his 2022 Bharat Jodo Yatra. The Supreme Court was due to take up the matter on Friday. (Getty Images/iStockphoto) The affidavit dated July 23, filed in response to a notice on Gandhi's plea to quash a Lucknow court summons over the comments, argued against any relief ahead of the hearing in the matter on Friday. It pleaded for the dismissal of Gandhi's plea. The affidavit said that allegations of promoting enmity and public mischief under the Indian Penal Code's sections 153A and 505 are applicable against Gandhi. It cited the investigation in the case and added that it indicated deliberate spreading of hatred through pre-planned actions. In April, the court slammed Gandhi for calling Savarkar a 'servant' of the British while staying the proceedings against him. The court noted the statement was made in Maharashtra, where Savarkar is 'worshipped as a God'. 'Let him not make any statements on freedom fighters without knowing any history or geography about it,' the court said. The court reminded Gandhi that his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, wrote a letter praising Savarkar when she was the Prime Minister. It referred to Mahatma Gandhi, who communicated to the British Viceroy, addressing himself as a faithful 'servant'. Rahul Gandhi referred to the pension Savarkar received from the British while calling him a 'servant of the British'. The court said that one does not become a servant just like that. 'One day, you will say that Gandhiji was also a servant of the British,' the court said. 'This is not the way you treat freedom fighters.' Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who appeared for Rahul Gandhi, assured the court that no further statement shall be made. The court warned that if any further statement is made, it will take it up suo motu (on its own). 'We will not allow anybody to make any statement against freedom fighters.' Gandhi moved the top court against the Allahabad high court's April 4 order rejecting his plea for quashing the complaint against him. Nripendra Pandey, a lawyer, filed the complaint against Gandhi, saying his remarks against Savarkar hurt Hindu sentiments. He argued Gandhi insulted a leader who fought for India's freedom. The trial court, in its summons, observed Gandhi spread hatred and ill-will in society through his speech against Savarkar. The complaint against Gandhi was initially dismissed in June 2023. It was revived on a revision petition. Gandhi argued in the high court that the allegations against him do not amount to the offences he has been accused of.
