Maura Higgins' stunning bounce back after Danny Jones kiss scandal

Daily Mirror3 days ago
Maura Higgins has not only recovered from 'that' boozy kiss at a BAFTAs afterparty earlier this year - she's riding higher than ever as a {R expert claims she's 'played a blinder'
Maura Higgins had a rocky start to 2025, splitting from Pete Wicks then facing a backlash over 'that' kiss with married McFly star Danny Jones at the Brits afterparty. But not only has she weathered the storm, she's set to celebrate her biggest year yet, as OK! reports.

According to PR expert Dermot McNamara, Maura's played a blinder by refusing to get caught up in the drama and, thanks to her hosting gig on Love Island USA: Aftersun, her career is just getting stronger. 'This had all the makings of a PR disaster, but Maura turned it into a non-event,' he said. 'The scandal could have derailed her, but she's back on screen, bigger than ever.'

The reality star, 34, oozed confidence as she returned to the spin-off series last week. And while she may have hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons recently, a source told new the negative publicity has failed to dent her reputation.
'She needed a clean slate and working in America has done that,' they said. 'In the UK, Maura was – unfairly – branded a homewrecker. It's not a good look and she didn't want it to impact her career.' Maura met Danny while appearing on I'm A Celebrity last December, while she was dating Pete.
Danny, meanwhile, has been married to model Georgia Horsley – who he shares seven-year-old son Cooper with – since 2014. Maura and Danny stunned onlookers when they were caught kissing at the Brits afterparty, prompting Danny to issue a grovelling apology.

But as Danny battled to save his marriage, Maura maintained a dignified silence. 'It's the golden rule of reputation management: don't add fuel to the fire,' said Dermot. 'She didn't dignify the rumours with a response, and by doing so she denied them oxygen.'
The source agreed that Maura was canny in how she dealt with the furore. 'She still hasn't spoken about the kiss – she acts as if it didn't happen,' they said. 'McFly aren't as well-known in the US, so it's a weight off her shoulders when she's there.' Maura began hosting Love Island USA: Aftersun last year, but took time away to film for the US version of The Traitors.

Then, last week, she made an epic return for the finale. 'Maura is hot property in America,' the source said. And she has no plans to slow down, with the source claiming that Maura is working hard to ensure the scandal with Danny becomes a distant memory. Dermot said it's incredible how the former ring girl has been juggling two huge TV shows.
'These are high-profile roles that prove networks and brands still want her front and centre. Maura is a magnetic TV host with a rising-star quality.'
Alongside the likes of Molly-Mae Hague and Olivia Attwood, Maura is one of Love Island's biggest success stories. It's because she knows how to play the fame game, the source said, adding, 'She's come out of this debacle unscathed, while Danny still seems to be picking up the pieces.'

AI used to aid Love Island casting process, ITV boss says

Speaking as ITV announced its half-year results, Dame Carolyn McCall said the broadcaster uses AI in many ways. 'We will use AI in any way we can to make what we do more efficient,' she told members of the media. 'And a great example of that for me from (ITV) Studios is they're using a tool where it's a smart editing assistance and it's about speed and quality. 'And they used it for Love Island and casting this year. 'So that productivity gain means that they can go and do other things, which is really, really good.' Love Island has been a huge ratings hit for ITV since its launch in 2015, with each series receiving around 100,000 applications from members of the public. A spokeswoman for ITV later explained that generative AI does not make any decisions during the Love Island casting process, but is used to edit hundreds of hours of footage into highlight reels for members of the team to then watch. 'It simply assists with the editing of audition tapes during the casting period,' she said. 'We get thousands and thousands of applications every year and we hold face to face auditions. 'When we get to the stage of narrowing it down to hundreds of prospective Islanders and we want to share audition highlights on a reel with the ITV commissioning team, to support the casting decision, we use the software (Quickture along with an Adobe editing programme) to edit the hundreds of hours of footage into highlight reels. 'It means that the casting team can then spend more time researching and finding more prospective Islanders.' Announcing its latest results on Thursday, ITV said it had stepped up cost-cutting plans again following a slump in half-year profits. The broadcaster said it was slashing costs by another £15 million, on top of £30 million previously announced, with spend on content being trimmed. The group flagged using technology among efforts to drive the latest round of cost-cutting.

Viewers have seen her struggle with her feelings for Harry after being caught up in one of the show's longest-running love triangles ever alongside Helana Ford. Harry has been affectionate with both women and despite making things exclusive with Helena, he has admitted to still having feelings for Shakira. Now, fans think she has been put in the firing line just in time for the annual award ceremony that is known for lifting villa secrets and causing long-lasting rifts. Hitting out at bosses, one fan wrote online: "Watching Shakira be bullied by producers has been a hard watch. Megan and Helena have said some terrible things and behaved in a disgusting manner but it is never shown. "No matter what Shakira does it is is like she is being bullied out of her sanity and out of the villa. Complain to Ofcom." Someone else similarly added: "I've logged an Ofcom complaint about the repeated attacks on Shakira by the production team." Another penned: "WHY THEY KEEP MAKING SHAKIRA A TARGET FOR BULLYING ? Feel so bad for her." Before a fourth affirmed their plans to alert broadcasting watchdog Ofcom, writing: "Oh here we go ofcom is calling my name." It comes as The Sun told how a heartbroken Shakira threatened to quit the show and leave the villa amid her conflicting feelings for Harry as well as her recent break-up with Conor. Love Island star Harry's shock comment to Shakira revealed - just hours after going exclusive with Helena In as-yet unaired scenes, the lass from Burnley had a meltdown in the beach hut after ending her blossoming relationship with Conor over fears she'd never get over Harry. The Sun can reveal Shakira was so upset by the situation, she went to seek support from the 24/7 duty of care team and asked to leave. Bosses were able to help her through the turmoil over a number of hours and she made the decision to stay. The meltdown happened after she ended things with the Irish rugby lad. A source said: 'Shakira has been through the wringer and was already at breaking point over her heartbreak by Harry. 'When Harry made it exclusive with Helena, everything unravelled and she realised she wasn't ready to be with Conor properly. 'She did the brave thing by ending that, but then the floodgates opened and she just didn't want to be in the villa anymore. 'She went to the beach hut and asked to leave the villa. 'The duty of care team were able to help her through her emotions and she decided to stay.' Shakira has had a tumultuous time in the villa but viewers branded her decision to end it with Conor 'real'. 5 She has struggled in the villa Credit: Eroteme
