Described as a 'funny, filthy romance,' Pillion sees Skarsgard play Ray, an 'impossibly handsome leader of a bike gang' who takes on Colin (Melling), a weedy wallflower, to be his new submissive. Ray uproots Colin from his dreary suburban life and introduces him to a community of kinky, queer bikers. But as Colin dives deeper into Ray's world, he begins to question whether the life of a 24/7 submissive is really for him.
Lighton, who makes his feature directorial debut with the film, won the Un Certain Regard Award for best screenplay in Cannes. After the festival's market, Cornerstone also sold Pillion to Transformers (Japan), Challan (South Korea) and Swallow Wings (Taiwan). Besides the A24 deal for the U.S., Picturehouse will release Pillion in the U.K. and September Film will handle the Benelux release.
Lighton, BAFTA-nominated for his 2017 short Wren Boys, directed Pillion from his own script which is loosely inspired by Adam Mars-Jones' 2019 novel Box Hill.
Element Pictures, a Fremantle company, produced Pillion with financing from BBC Film and the BFI in association with Fremantle, Picturehouse and September Film.

Watch: Spike Lee directs Denzel Washington in 'Highest 2 Lowest'
1 of 3 | A24 is previewing "Highest 2 Lowest," starring Denzel Washington. Photo courtesy of A24 Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Denzel Washington's son is kidnapped in a ransom plot in Highest 2 Lowest, the actor's fifth collaboration with Spike Lee. In a new trailer for the crime thriller released Monday, Washington portrays "a titan music mogul" who attempts to negotiate his son's release, according to an official synopsis. "I know what it is to risk everything you have for something that you want," he says in the preview. "I know what that means -- to have nothing and want everything." The feature takes its inspiration from Akira Kurosawa's High and Low and also stars Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera and A$AP Rocky. Washington and Lee first worked together on the 1990 film Mo' Better Blues. Their most recent collaboration was Inside Man (2007). Highest 2 Lowest releases in theaters Aug. 15 and starts streaming Sept. 5 on Apple TV+. Margaret Qualley Took the Iconic Cosmo Quiz Between Making Movies
Hearst Owned You know when someone is so booked and busy it feels kind of spiritual? That's Margaret Qualley right now. Case in point: The very morning she sat down to chat with Cosmopolitan editor-in-chief Willa Bennett for her 60th anniversary cover interview, her latest film Honey Don't!—the second entry in Ethan Coen and Tricia Cooke's Drive-Away Dolls lesbian road trip trilogy—was announced to premiere at Cannes. Not bad for a random Wednesday. And that's not all she has going on right now. She is also starring in Richard Linklater's Blue Moon and just wrapped Huntington, a darkly funny thriller with Glen Powell—and yes, you did spot her in Happy Gilmore 2 on Netflix last weekend. Somehow, she still managed to show up to the set of her cover shoot on time and with the vibe of a girl who borrowed her best friend's sweater on the way out the door—not the air you'd expect of someone redefining screen stardom before our very eyes. She understandably had no time to fill out her version of our iconic Cosmo Quiz between photo setups, but she promised she'd get it done—and she's a woman of her word! So she FedEx'd us her completed copy from yes, she was working on yet another movie. (We knew she'd come through!) Over more than a decade in the game, Margaret's made a name for herself inhabiting characters who sit right at the intersection of womanhood, contradiction, and full-blown emotional hurricane. And we wouldn't have it any other way. The answers to her quiz aren't indicative of any characters though. They're quintessentially Margaret. Married. Jack Antonoff. Adam Sandler. Asheville, NC. My dad. My wedding day. Listen to your heart and share how you feel. Anything that involves playing that game is Pictionary. Today. Like 10 minutes ago. Smokey and Jack. ‘Highest 2 Lowest' Trailer: Spike Lee's Latest Joint Is an Entertaining Homage to Akira Kurosawa
One of the best-reviewed films out of Cannes is ready for its August debut. From writer/director Spike Lee, 'Highest 2 Lowest' has released its official theatrical trailer. The movie is the fifth collaboration between Lee and Oscar-winning star Denzel Washington. It is, as IndieWire's own David Ehrlich described it, a 'jarringly upbeat' and 'deliriously entertaining' homage to Akira Kurosawa's bleak 1963 classic 'High and Low.' More from IndieWire Amazon CEO 'Cannot Wait' to Start Denis Villeneuve's James Bond Movie It's Time for Millennials to Make Lindsay Lohan a Movie Star Again A$AP Rocky — whose real name is Rakim Mayers — co-stars, thanks largely to Lee scrolling, as we all do, on Instagram. 'What's funny is that I was looking at Instagram four or five years ago and people were saying that A$AP looked like he's Denzel's son,' Lee told Carmelo Anthony in April. 'I seen those memes and then in the film we used that.' Lee went on to praise Rocky — who also laid down a track teased in the trailer for the film — saying 'A$AP, man, he fire… I mean, there's some scenes where him and D head to head – he ain't backing up. Like, 'I'm here too.' So very, very happy with the way the film turned out and looking forward to sharing it with the world.' Ehrlich agreed in his review, writing that Rocky was 'just as good here as he is in recent Sundance highlight 'If I Had Legs I'd Kick You.'' Ehrlich also detailed the plot, writing that the 'protagonist is forced into a compromising position on the eve of a critical business deal when a downtrodden kidnapper mistakes his driver's son for his own kid, Trey (Aubrey Joseph). And once again [as in 'High and Low'], all the money in the world can't save him from paying a price for his greed.' 'Highest 2 Lowest' already has big name fans, too, including director Martin Scorsese, who Lee related through an Instagram post heaped high praise on the film. Actually, he wrote that Scorsese 'gushed' about virtually every aspect of the movie, including Washington's performance, the editing, cinematography, and, of course, Lee's direction. 'Marty Was So Happy For Me,' Lee said. 'Highest 2 Lowest' is the first Lee joint since 2020's 'Da 5 Bloods,' which was distributed by Netflix during the pandemic. His previous film, 'BlackKkKlansman,' brought Lee a long-awaited Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. 'Highest 2 Lowest' hits theaters everywhere on August 22 before streaming on Apple TV+ September 5. Watch the trailer below.
