Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kharge said, "The Metro project was launched under the UPA Government led by Manmohan Singh. In the first phase, the UPA Government bore a significant portion of the cost, outpacing the State Government's contribution," he wrote.
According to him, after BJP came to power, their commitment to the project dwindled, with the Central Government's share decreasing drastically in subsequent phases.
"The Karnataka Government has shouldered the bulk of the expenses, contributing over Rs 12,000 crore, covering land acquisition costs and additional expenses," he added.
Live Events
The Central Government only provided Rs 8,000 crore for the project, he pointed out.
"This lack of support forced BMRCL to take loans to cover the remaining project costs. While Karnataka's contributions to the Centre continue to grow year after year, the returns to the state diminish, and the Yellow Line project is a glaring example of this," said Kharge.
Meanwhile, speaking to PTI Videos,
Tejasvi Surya
, MP of Bengaluru South, insisted that the PM "pushed for public infrastructure in Bengaluru", stating that between the Yellow Line and the proposed Orange Line that the PM is laying the foundation stone for on Sunday, 18 lakh commuters will benefit.
"But Congress tries to take credit for all the things in which they don't have any role. You may have seen recently, Congress tried to take credit for even the IPL victory," said Surya.
The credit for the success of it goes to the people of Bengaluru, nobody else, he added.

Congress MLA Anant Patel says will go ahead with Aug 14 protest
Congress MLA and Tribal leader Anant Patel on Wednesday said the protest against the Par-Tapi-Narmada river link project will be held as planned at Dharampur in Valsad on August 14. He made the announcement after BJP MP Dhaval Patel, in a press conference, released a letter received from the Union Jal Shakti Ministry which states that the Par-Tapi-Narmada river link project has been discontinued. On August 10, Dhaval Patel wrote a letter to the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti seeking the current status of the Par-Tapi-Narmada river link project. In its reply, the Union Jal Shakti Ministry said: 'In the 21st Special Committee for Interlinking of Rivers (SCILR), meeting held on 14th December 2023, this project was also reviewed, and it was recorded that the ministry has discontinued this project from the status of Priority links under NPP.' A copy of the document, signed by Senior Joint Commissioner Avanti Verma of the Union Jal Shakti Ministry, is with The Indian Express. Speaking on the occasion, Dhaval Patel accused the Congress of spreading fake information on the Par-Tapi-Narmada link project. 'The Central and state governments had in 2022-23 clarified that such a project had been discontinued. Today, we have received an official letter from the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti stating that the project has been discontinued. The DPR (Detail Project Report), which the Congress leader released, was of 2017,' Dhaval Patel said. Reacting to the remarks of the Valsad MP, the Congress MLA said he does not have faith in the BJP government and that the protest against the project will be held as planned. 'The state Cabinet discussed the issue today (Wednesday) and the government said that the project has been discontinued. I don't have faith in the BJP government. We will go ahead with our protest on August 14 at Dharampur town,' Anant Patel said. 'Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel should come out and give us a clarification on the issue. Otherwise, we will go ahead with our protest,' the Vansda MLA added.

AP high court observes incentives to IT companies should focus on employment generation over land loss
Vijayawada: The high court on Wednesday observed that giving incentives to IT companies should be seen in the broader perspective of employment generation instead of losing money on land allocations. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The High Court bench, headed by Chief Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Ravi Cheemalapati, observed that in the absence of incentives, companies will choose cities like Hyderabad and Bengaluru. One N N Grace, President of the Society for Protection of Civil Properties and Environment, Visakhapatnam chapter, moved the High Court with a Public Interest Litigation (PIL), challenging the land allotments made to Cognizant at Rs 0.99 per acre. Jada Sravan, who argued on her behalf, said that the land allotted to Cognizant is valued at Rs 1109 crore, but the state govt allotted it for nothing. Govindan firm on jibe at Pamplany
Kannur: CPM state secretary M V Govindan on Wednesday defended his remarks that Thalassery Archbishop Mar Joseph Pamplany had been adopting an 'opportunistic' stand over the arrest of two Keralite nuns in BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Speaking to the media in Kannur, Govindan said those who took an opportunistic stand should be termed as 'opportunist'. "The word opportunist is not vulgar and I criticized someone who took some wrong stand," he said. He said he didn't want to reply over the response by some Catholic leaders alleging that Govindan was speaking like notorious criminal Govindachamy. "People make comments based on their standard," he said. Govindan added that BJP was responsible for the electoral fraud in Thrissur. "BJP should give a reply politically in the issue. Election commission should take a stern stand by examining the matter, he demanded. "The move doesn't work as we had already faced such threats many times earlier," he added.
