Two people charged in Waterbury crash that killed one person, seriously injured three others
Two people have been charged in connection with a three-vehicle crash in Waterbury in December that left one person dead and seriously injured three others.
The crash occurred on Dec. 29 around 3:13 a.m. when police responded to the report of a collision involving three vehicles in the area of 434 Baldwin St., according to the Waterbury Police Department. The vehicles were found to include a 2013 Dodge Dart, a 2018 Ford EcoSport and a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Police said the occupants of the Jeep fled the scene before officers arrived and were not immediately located.
The driver of the Dart, 47-year-old Troy Kelley of New Haven, was taken to an area hospital for serious injuries. A passenger in the vehicle, 46-year-old Andrea Sherman of Waterbury, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Two people in the Ford, two 22-year-old Waterbury men, were also taken to a hospital for serious injuries, according to police.
Members of the police department's Crash Reconstruction Unit investigated the crash and obtained a warrant for Kelley's arrest. He was charged last Thursday with two counts of second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and a single count each of reckless driving, insufficient insurance, failure to renew registration, operating under the influence, traveling too fast for conditions, first-degree reckless endangerment, failure to drive in the proper lane, second-degree manslaughter with a motor vehicle, following too closely resulting in an accident and operation while registration is refused, suspended or revoked.
According to court records, Kelley appeared in Waterbury Superior Court following his arrest. He remains held on a $1 million bond and is due back in court on April 23. He has not entered a plea.
Police said they also charged the driver of the Jeep who fled the scene. He was identified as 22-year-old Wilson Guerrero-Campoverde of Waterbury, according to police.
Guerrero-Campoverde was charged last Thursday with evading responsibility. He appeared before a judge and was released on a promise to appear, court records show. He is due back in court on April 23 and has not entered a plea.

Man charged in burglaries of pro athletes' homes including Richard Sherman and Julio Rodriguez
A 21-year-old man has been charged with multiple burglaries, allegedly targeting the homes of professional athletes, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Earl Henderson Riley IV was charged with breaking into the homes of Mariners center fielder Julio Rodriguez and pitcher Luis Castillo, as well as former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman and Los Angeles Dodgers Pitcher Blake Snell. On March 31, Richard Sherman posted on X that several armed men broke into his home the day before while his wife and kids were inside. According to court documents, Mariners CF Julio Rodriguez's home was burglarized on May 1 on Mercer Island. His girlfriend was home at the time and she barricaded herself in a bathroom while she called 911. Over $194,000 in jewelry and high-end purses were stolen, documents say. Mariners Pitcher Luis Castillo's home was burglarized twice - once on February 7, and again on March 28, prosecutors say. Surveillance video at Castillo's home captured the suspects fleeing in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee, which helped lead authorities to Earl Henderson Riley IV's arrest. In Edmonds, the home of Los Angeles Dodger pitcher Blake Snell was burglarized on March 24. Court documents say the damage was discovered on March 26 by security associates at the home. Over $200,000 in items were stolen, according to the documents. Prosecutors also say burglars attempted to enter the home of former Mariner Edgar Martinez on March 29. Suspects were seen walking on the property but did not enter the residence and nothing was stolen, according to documents. Court documents reveal that Earl Henderson Riley IV was previously released from court custody on February 7, 2025, after pleading guilty to previous robbery counts. Riley is being held in the King County Jail on $1 million bail, the prosecutor's office says.

Lori Vallow Daybell back in court, charged with conspiracy to murder ex nephew-in-law
PHOENIX, Arizona (ABC4) — Lori Vallow Daybell is back in court, charged with conspiring to commit the attempted murder of her former nephew-in-law, Brandon Boudreaux. Daybell is charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder of Brandon Boudreaux, the ex-husband of her niece, Melani. Boudreaux alleges he was shot at while returning home on Oct. 2, 2019. Daybell is representing herself in the trial, as she did in her Arizona trial on conspiring to murder her estranged husband, Charles Vallow, where she was found guilty. Daybell was also previously sentenced for murder and conspiracy to murder her children, Joshua 'JJ' Vallow, 7, and Tylee Ashlyn Ryan, 16. She was sentenced to prison and is currently serving five life sentences for the crimes. 'This defendant, Lori Vallow Daybell, has been charged with conspiracy to commit the first-degree murder of Brandon Boudreaux on October 2nd of 2019. The evidence in this case will prove to you beyond reasonable doubt that this defendant conspired with Alex Cox and others to kill Brandon,' said Prosecutor Treena Kay. Boudreaux said he went to the gym, then came home, and as he was waiting for his garage door to open, he noticed a Jeep with Texas plates on the side of the road that was parked awkwardly. He said the car moved in, the back window of the Jeep opened, and he saw the muzzle of a gun. At this point, he heard a bang and the window of his Tesla shattered. He immediately started driving, thinking someone had shot at him. Boudreaux then called 911 as he drove to the neighborhood pool. Police arrived and he talked with officers, realizing that someone had tried to kill him. Lori Vallow Daybell found guilty of conspiracy to murder husband Boudreaux also asserted before the jury that Daybell played a part in his divorce, claiming she influenced his ex-wife, Melani Pawlowski. The second day of Daybell's trial in Arizona was held on Friday, as witnesses and evidence were presented before the jury. Daybell was asked to leave the room after an argument with the judge, in which she had raised her voice in discussing whether her 'good character' could later be presented before the court. As the day progresses, evidence and witness testimony continue to be presented before the jury, including forensic evidence relating to the gunshot residue, provided by the detective involved in the case.
