The incident occurred between Junctions 5 and 6, affecting the northbound carriageway between Auchenkilns Interchange and Old Inns Interchange, near Cumbernauld.
As a result, lane two (of two) has been closed to traffic while emergency services deal with the scene.

Traffic Scotland is urging motorists to exercise caution and reduce speed when approaching the area, as delays are likely.
They said: "Lane two of two is currently blocked on the M80 Northbound between J5 and J6 due to a collision.
"Traffic is beginning to build, so please take care on the approach."

"This is fantastic," one man wrote. But it did make others wonder — what if he was rushing to the hospital or another emergency? What does the law say about driving on the shoulder? While it might feel satisfying to block a rule-breaker, it's worth knowing what the law actually says. In Victoria, it's illegal to drive in the emergency lane or road shoulder unless directed by police or road signage, or in very limited circumstances — such as when entering or leaving the road, avoiding an obstruction or obeying a traffic control device. Under rule 146 of the state's road rules, a driver on a multi-lane road must drive so the driver's vehicle is completely in a marked lane. Failure to do so could result in a $610 fine. Three-day road closure planned in Calmore
A three-day road closure is planned in Calmore. Calmore Road will be closed between its junctions with Calmore Drive and Michigan Way from August 11. The road will be closed for utility works. The closure will be in place between 9.30am and 4pm each day. The works are being carried out by Clearview Services Group. An alternative route will be in place via Calmore Drive, Cooks Lane, Salisbury Road, and Water Lane. Although the closure is expected to last for three days, the order allows for the road to be closed for up to six months if required. A 2018 RAM 4500 truck pulling a livestock trailer crossed into the southbound lanes and hit a Chevy Malibu head-on. The impact caused the truck to continue into an arc, and hit a Mercedes SUV that was behind the Malibu. The Mercedes overturned and caught on fire, DPS said. All five people inside the Mercedes SUV died at the scene. They were identified as Thalia Salinas, Ruby Cruz, Brianna Valadez, Desiree Cervantez, and Jacqueline Velazco.
