Cuttack: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said 'respecting women is a fundamental principle of our (BJP) political training.' Majhi, along with his two deputy chief ministers, K V Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, attended the 'Nari Shakti Samabesh' in Cuttack and came down heavily on the previous BJD government. Claiming that respecting women was the fundamental training of the saffron outfit, Majhi said his government immediately after taking the oath of office on June 12 last year took four major decisions including launching of Subhadra Yojana for women's empowerment.
'The primary goal of Nari Shakti Samabesh is to strengthen and elevate Odisha's women as the State's greatest asset,' Majhi said. He claimed that Subhadra Yojana is Odisha's largest-ever women's welfare programme and a social welfare scheme that aims to empower women financially by connecting with every village and family, even in remote tribal areas.
The Chief Minister also claimed that his government was working to boost the economic condition of women through Self-Help Groups (SHGs). 'The women are using the assistance availed under Subhadra Yojana for businesses and farming. The SHGs have received Rs 3,695 crore in business and Rs 300 crore in interest refunds,' Majhi said. He claimed that Odisha has made a record by creating over 16 lakh 'Lakhpati Didis'.
While felicitating some Lakhpati Didis at the meeting, Majhi said his government has set a target to create one crore 'Lakhpati Didis' in the coming years. He said more budget allocations have been made for women and children in the State. Majhi said as much as Rs 89,861 crore has been allocated in the 2025-26 budget for women-centric schemes like Chief Minister's Sampurna Pushti Yojana (MSPY). 'Odisha is a model State in women's empowerment and the State will serve as an inspiration for others,' he said. Parvati Parida said the BJP government holding 'Nari Shakti Samabesh', on the very first day of its second year in office, symbolises both respect for women and a renewed commitment to building an equitable and progressive Odisha.

GDMO candidates securing 14 out of 100 recommended for recruitment, state govt should rectify the situation: Ex-Tripura CM Manik Sarkar

Former Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar Sunday took potshots at the BJP-led government over the state public service panel recommending candidates with marks as low as 14 for the posts of general duty medical officers (GMDOs). 'We have come across media reports that the candidates who got 14 marks were recruited (as doctors). Those who have recruited them… it's their responsibility. If the general knowledge of the doctor is not good, then it may be a problem. It's good that attempts are being made to recruit doctors after a long time. But if they are taken irrespective of their quality… it might lead to a completely different result than expected. It may not be true in all cases, it may be true for only a few cases… but the government should take responsibility to rectify it,' Sarkar told reporters on the sidelines of a blood donation camp at Jirania in West Tripura. Three days ago, Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had congratulated the newly-recommended GDMO candidates. 'Heartfelt congratulations to all the newly recommended GDMO candidates. Wishing you great success as you embark on this noble journey, serving humanity with dedication & compassion. Your commitment to healthcare will make a difference,' CM Saha wrote on his Facebook page, sharing a Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) notification for recruitment against GDMO posts. The notification, which cleared the recruitment of 216 medical officers in the grade IV of Tripura Health Services, also said that eight posts remained vacant since no one was found suitable to be recommended, along with nine posts reserved for 'persons with disabilities'. The notification soon landed in a controversy, especially among netizens who were found divided in their opinion about medical officers getting recruited with marks as less as 14 out of 100.

EC helping BJP in ‘vote chori': Rahul on poll panel's presser

Sasaram: Reacting sharply to the Election Commission's press conference on a day he along with INDIA bloc parties launched the 'Voter Adhikar Yatra' in Bihar against the SIR exercise, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that a law was brought in 2023 by the BJP govt to ensure that no court can take action against election commissioners as EC is "helping them and is indulging in vote theft in collusion with them". Addressing a public meeting in Aurangabad after launching the yatra in Sasaram, he said, "I want to ask them why did the govt change the law on CCTV footage of election process?" "Do you know that no case can be initiated against the election commissioners. In no court in India can there be a case against them. This law was made in 2023. Why was this law made at this time?" he asked. Rahul alleged this law was as PM Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah "want to ensure that no one can take any action against EC as it is helping them and is indulging in 'vote chori' along with them". "EC is asking an affidavit from me but does not ask Anurag Thakur (BJP) for an affidavit when he says the same thing," he alleged, citing the alleged electoral irregularities highlighted by Congress in Karnataka. On X, Rahul said, "EC declared living people as dead, removed from voter list people who had recently voted in LS elections. EC once again refuses to deliver digital, machine-readable voter rolls. Earlier, vote was "stolen stealthily, stealthily" and now, it is being done openly in the name of SIR", he said. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on X said that "as far as the CEC's threats to Rahul Gandhi are concerned, all that needs to be said is that the LoP had simply stated facts revealed by EC's own data." He said, "This was the first time this 'new' EC was speaking directly and not planting through sources" and that the presser came "three days after SC rejected every argument made by EC to prevent publication of the 65 lakh deleted voters during SIR".
