A Gears of War Remaster Is Coming to PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox This Summer

CNET05-05-2025
Microsoft is officially bringing one of its most well-known franchises to the PlayStation 5. On Monday, the company announced it will release a remastered version of the original Gears of War, called Gears of War: Reloaded, on Xbox Series X/S, PC and PlayStation 5 on Aug. 26 for $40. Game Pass Ultimate ($20 a month) and PC Game Pass ($12 a month) subscribers will also be able to access the game on Day 1.
"Gears of War: Reloaded is a celebration of one of gaming's most iconic franchises," the company wrote online. "With cross-play across all platforms, you and your friends can squad up no matter where you play -- no Microsoft account required."

The game will have two-player local and online co-op for the campaign, and multiplayer matches with up to eight players. That means Xbox, PlayStation and PC gamers can come together and chainsaw some grubs together, the way it was always meant to be.
This game will bring all content in the Gears of War: Ultimate Edition and all post-launch downloadable content. That includes a bonus campaign act, every multiplayer map and mode, plus characters and cosmetics unlocked through progression.
If you already own a digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Microsoft is offering you a free upgrade to the new remastered edition. You must have purchased that version of the game prior to 11 a.m. EST on May 5. If you did, Microsoft will send your Xbox account a direct message with a digital code for Gears of War: Reloaded before the game's launch in August.
Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad are back.
Microsoft
Microsoft launched Gears of War almost 20 years ago in 2006, and it has spawned sequels, spinoffs and books. Now, Microsoft is bringing the first game of this successful franchise to PlayStation as the company pushes to bring its first-party games catalogue to other consoles. But this isn't the first franchise the company has brought to other platforms.
In January, Microsoft announced it was bringing its Forza Horizon 5 to PlayStation, and you can play the game on that platform now. Forza Horizon 5 marked the first game developed by a studio that had released games only on Xbox to cross over to PlayStation.
Microsoft also confirmed in 2024 that it would bring other games, such as Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush and Pentiment, to other platforms, such as PlayStation and the Nintendo Switch.
Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer said on the Gamertag Radio podcast in January that the company also planned on bringing games to the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches in June.
"The difference that we've seen in the last 20 years is that it's games first, not platform first," he said.

Three Numbers That Prove Arista Is An Elite Tech Stock In Disguise

Arista Networks Inc. (NYSE: ANET) does not manufacture GPUs. It does not develop AI models. Additionally, it seldom attracts attention like Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) or Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT). Nonetheless, Arista has quietly emerged as one of the most impactful technology firms in the market. Strong Q2 results and elevated guidance propelled the stock to all-time highs, climbing 20% in the last five days compared to a 1.7% increase for the S&P 500. Three significant figures illustrate why Arista ranks among the most profitable and resilient players in the industry. Seeking upside with less volatility than individual stocks? The Trefis High Quality portfolio offers an alternative, having surpassed the S&P 500 and achieved returns exceeding 91% since its launch. Separately, check out What's Happening With Joby Stock? 1. 40.3% Net Margin — Software-Level Profitability Arista achieved a 40.3% net margin in Q2—higher than Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL), Alphabet (NASDAQ: GOOG), or Microsoft. It also sells hardware. The catalyst is Arista's cloud-native EOS (Extensible Operating System), which transforms conventional networking hardware into a software-defined platform. This leads to high margins and stable, recurring demand from hyperscalers such as Meta and Microsoft (accounting for over 40% of revenue). 2. 54% Operating Cash Flow Margin — S&P 500 Royalty Over half of Arista's revenue is converted into cash. Its 54% operating cash flow margin ranks among the top 5% of S&P 500 firms—including most SaaS companies. This cash supports innovation, growth, and a balance sheet that is already among the strongest in the tech industry. 3. $8.1 Billion in Cash, No Debt — Flexibility in Any Market Having $8.1 billion in cash (56% of assets) and no debt allows Arista to invest during downturns, protect its market standing, and expand globally without needing external financing. This strength has been tested: Our dashboard How Low Can Stocks Go During A Market Crash captures how key stocks performed during and after the last six market crashes. Arista is valued at 23.5x sales, 50.7x earnings, and 46.2x free cash flow—significantly higher than the S&P 500 averages. On paper, it appears more like a SaaS company than a conventional networking entity. The distinction lies in execution. With established demand from major cloud providers, software-like margins, and an expanding role in AI data centers, Arista is enhancing its position in a rapidly growing market. The Bottom Line: Arista Is a Hidden Giant Arista is not widely acknowledged outside of technology circles, but its profitability, strong balance sheet, and role in AI infrastructure render it a pivotal player in the sector. The stock is not inexpensive, and hazards persist, yet its performance has consistently justified its valuation. For investors seeking opportunities beyond chips and AI models, Arista provides access to the infrastructure that supports AI's expansion—and the market is beginning to recognize this. That being said, investing in a single stock carries risks. You might consider the Trefis Reinforced Value (RV) Portfolio, which has outperformed its all-cap stock benchmark (a combination of the S&P 500, S&P mid-cap, and Russell 2000 benchmark indices) to yield strong returns for investors. Why is that? The quarterly rebalanced mix of large-, mid-, and small-cap RV Portfolio stocks offered a responsive approach to maximizing profitable market conditions while mitigating losses when markets decline, as detailed in RV Portfolio performance metrics.

Amazon Stock Slips 10%: Here's Why It Can Still Finish 2025 With a Market Cap of $3 Trillion

Key Points Amazon stock is dipping because of slowing growth in AI. The company can greatly expand its margins in retail and e-commerce. The stock has a chance to grow to a $3 trillion market cap if 2026 earnings hit a level well within reach. 10 stocks we like better than Amazon › Last week, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) reported its second-quarter earnings. Investors were not enthused. The stock dipped 10% and is now trailing the valuation of its big technology peers, with Nvidia and Microsoft having market caps of around twice the size of Amazon today. Wall Street is concerned about slower growth in cloud computing and Amazon falling behind in artificial intelligence (AI). This pins the stock down on one topic when in reality Amazon has all the ingredients to keep growing its profits over the long term, which is what will drive the share price higher. Here's why Amazon -- with a market cap of $2.3 trillion right now -- can finish 2025 valued at over $3 trillion. More profits arriving in e-commerce The biggest reason for Amazon's profit expansion in its e-commerce division the last few years is advertising. High-margin advertising revenue has grown from $7.4 billion in the second quarter of 2021 to $15.7 billion last quarter, and is still growing 22% year over year. This division has now generated $61 billion in revenue over the last 12 months and has incredibly strong profit margins. Advertising, along with growth in third-party seller services, subscription revenue, and operating leverage over its fixed cost base, has enabled Amazon's North American retail division to expand its profit margin to 7% over the last 12 months. Through the rest of 2025, there is plenty of room for this expansion to keep occurring, which will have a large impact on profitability given how much revenue the division generates ($400 billion over the last 12 months). Even slight profit margin enhancements mean billions of dollars in extra earnings for Amazon. The same thing is happening in international markets, where Amazon has a 3.4% operating margin on $150 billion in revenue. These segments are behind North America but have the same business model at the end of the day, meaning there is even more room for margin expansion over the long haul. Over $500 billion in annual revenue for segments growing revenue in the double digits means Amazon can add tens of billions of dollars in earnings power from North America and international retail in the years to come just by expanding its profit margin slightly each year. Through the rest of 2025, this story will continue to unfold. Sustained cloud computing tailwind A once shining star of Amazon's business, cloud computing division Amazon Web Services (AWS) was the reason for the stock falling after its latest quarterly result. Revenue grew 17.5% for AWS in the quarter, which was well behind competitors Microsoft and Alphabet. Even though AWS is growing slower than its peers, it will still benefit greatly from the AI revolution, especially because of its relationship with Anthropic. The fast-growing AI start-up is seeing booming revenue and is planning to spend a boatload of money at AWS, its key partner. This can drive an acceleration of revenue growth for AWS through the rest of 2025. With over $130 billion in annualized sales, AWS is on a path to hitting close to $150 billion in annual recurring revenue by the end of 2025. Its profit margin is also strong, at 37% over the last 12 months. A strong profit margin and fast revenue growth mean huge earnings gains for AWS, which will lead to consolidated earnings gains for Amazon. The math to a $3 trillion valuation Over the last 12 months, Amazon has generated $76 billion in operating income and $70 billion in net income. Through continued margin expansion in retail and fast growth at AWS, both of these figures can keep chugging higher through the end of 2025. In 2026, it is likely that Amazon's annual earnings will be close to or exceed $100 billion. Today, Amazon trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 33. The S&P 500 index trades at a P/E ratio of close to 30. A forward P/E ratio of 30 and $100 billion in 2026 earnings means that Amazon would trade at a market cap of $3 trillion by the end of this year. That is the math behind Amazon's potential in 2025, and why the stock is set to surge in the next few quarters. Buy Amazon stock and hold on tight for the long term.
