Kaizer Chiefs will jet off to the Western Cape for their first league outing of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Stellenbosch FC at Athlone stadium on Sunday, 10 August.

Kick-off is scheduled for 17:30.
This season marks Amakhosi's 56th in the top-flight of South African football.
Kaizer Chiefs, 13-times South Africa league champions, first competed in the top-flight in 1971 and will feature in their 30th PSL era league campaign since its inception in 1996/97.
Opening game history
The Glamour Boys will be beginning a league campaign in the Western Cape for the first time since that inaugural PSL season.

The only other time Kaizer Chiefs have played a team from the Western Cape in their opening game was against Santos in 2009/10, which ended goalless.
Over their previous 29 opening league games since 1996/97, Kaizer Chiefs have won 16 times first up, lost five games and drawn eight.
Kaizer Chiefs will be opening up a PSL campaign on the road for the 20th time. Their record in the previous 19 openers has seen them win 11 times, draw six and lose two games.
Kaizer Chiefs' biggest win in their opening game of league season in the PSL era came, in fact, on the road – a 6-0 triumph over AmaZulu in 2012/13, a season in which they went onto lift the title.

In three of Kaizer Chiefs' four title-winning seasons in the PSL era they have begun on the road. In 2004/05, they defeated Dynamos 4-1 and in 2012/13, they won 6-0 against AmaZulu. In 2014/15, they defeated Free State Stars 1-0.
Record against Stellenbosch FC
This particular fixture pits Kaizer Chiefs against Stellenbosch for the 13th time in the league. Amakhosi hold sway, winning six of these games, drawing three and losing three.
Last season, Chiefs managed to defeat Stellenbosch FC three times in all competitions, winning the away league fixture 1-0, followed by a 2-1 home victory, and then a 3-1 triumph in a Nedbank Cup quarter-final clash.
Kaizer Chiefs have also fared well on their travels to face Stellenbosch FC, winning on four previous visits, while losing once and drawing once.

This fixture also saw history being made when former Kaizer Chiefs player, Caleb Bimenyimana scored a hat-trick of penalties in a 3-1 away win for Amakhosi on 9 October 2022. It was the first time in the PSL era that any player had managed to score three penalties in a single game.
Amakhosi will be looking for their third successive league win over Stellenbosch, and their fourth in a row away from home against them.
In what position will Kaizer Chiefs finish the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season?

Sundowns' Cardoso backs young Mabena to step up

'He also played too much for the public but he can't do that, he'll have to learn to make his own decisions,' said Cardoso. As the 2025–26 Betway Premiership campaign kicks off this weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso believes this could be the season rising star Siyabonga Mabena truly comes of age. Sundowns' young goalscorer After a lengthy injury layoff, the 18-year-old came off the bench in the MTN8 quarter-final match against Richards Bay to round off the scoring in a comprehensive 4–0 victory for the Brazilians. ALSO READ: Mngqithi – we are all gunning for Cardoso's Sundowns Mabena's goal sparked wild celebrations, both in the stands and on the Sundowns bench, with Cardoso sprinting to the corner flag to embrace the teenager. The Portuguese coach gave an honest assessment of Mabena's impactful cameo appearance after Sundowns booked their place in the semi-finals of the Top 8 competition, where they will face Orlando Pirates. 'It's time for him to try and that's how he will learn by watching videos on what he could have done. I'm happy for him how he played after entering the game,' Cardoso said of the rising talent. 'Just like Kutlwano (Letlhaku), I hope in the future we can give more opportunities but it's important that they embrace the behaviours that we want for the team. 'Playing them allows us to try things that we have been working on for the future. I'm happy for him and I also celebrated in a special way because the boy needed this.' Despite Mabena's immense talent, he tends to over-elaborate, using his pace and dribbling skills to entertain the crowd. Cardoso, a well-travelled coach with extensive experience in youth development, believes the fan-favourite needs to improve in some key aspects of his game. 'We should also understand the role of a young player and the role of a group when we have young players in terms of supporting them to grow and the role of a coach in order to support young players,' Cardoso concluded. 'Too much for the public' 'Young players will succeed if the teams are strong. It's easy for them to enter in contexts like this because Mabena made wonderful things but he also made mistakes. 'He also played too much for the public but he can't do that, he'll have to learn to make his own decisions and not be influenced by people who are cheering for his dribbles because football is not played that way.' Masandawana will be away to Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium as they begin the official defence of their premiership title on Saturday. Kaizer Chiefs (Signings & Exits): FIVE expected deals!

Kaizer Chiefs are set to make more changes to their squad this transfer window. Kaizer Chiefs have completed 18 new deals so far. So, Amakhosi have signed SIX new players and promoted four DDC youngsters to the first team. Meanwhile, EIGHT players have been released by Chiefs. So, who is next? Fiacre Ntwari and Edson Castillo face likely departures out of Naturena. As reported on The South African , Ntwari is not in Nabi's plans for the up-and-coming 2025/26 season. Meaning, he is likely to be released. Moreover, Castillo's departure is being finalised with an announcement expected soon. 'It's been said head coach Nasreddine Nabi could be open to his [Castillo's] potential exit, allowing the club to be more flexible in the market as they look to lure new foreign recruits to bolster the squad for the upcoming season, ' the report read on iDiskiTimes . Chiefs have identified the need to sign an attacker – or two. They have been liked with the likes of Percy Tau, Fiston Mayele and Zakhele Lepasa (who has left Orlando Pirates) up front. However, they will not be signing these players. However, Dzenan Zajmovic is being considered and their is still interest in Etiosa Ighodaro. Outbound Sundowns striker, Ighodaro is currently training alone. As things stand, Chiefs are still interested but the striker is contemplating his options. Hence, the need to train alone, to reflect and make this career-changing decision. Meanwhile, Nasreddine Nabi has expressed interest in signing Zajmovic. 'I don't want to comment on the striker from Galaxy. I'm not sure if he's part of the club's plans or if his administrative issues have been resolved. But if the opportunity arises to recruit him – especially if he has residency – then yes,' he stated on IOL . Furthermore, they are close to securing a winger and midfielder from PSL rivals. Winger, Asenele Velebayi and midfielder, Luke Maartman have both agreed personel terms with Chiefs. Therefore, they will both join Amakhosi if the legal dispute is resolved. Reddam House Bedfordview's Mackenzie Mackay's global debut filled with flips, focus and pride

Mackenzie Mackay, a Grade 8 student at Reddam House Bedfordview, has returned from her first international gymnastics competition with unforgettable memories, new milestones, and a message of resilience and perseverance. Mackenzie competed in the Turin Acro Cup in Italy, an elite international acrobatic gymnastics competition. Representing Masters Gymnasts Club, she formed part of a trio in the 12–18-year-old age category, delivering performances that placed her team second after their first two routines. This allowed them to qualify for the final round, which was their ultimate goal for this competition. 'It was my first time competing overseas, so I was really excited, but also nervous because I didn't know what to expect,' Mackenzie shared. 'But when I heard the crowd cheering for us, it calmed me down and helped me focus on what we had trained so hard to do.' The team trained rigorously for months leading up to the event - often six to seven days a week - fine-tuning their routines under the guidance of their coach. 'I felt as prepared as we possibly could be, which gave us the confidence to perform,' she says. Mackenzie says the first two routines were her proudest moments. 'We were in second place after those, which was a huge milestone I never imagined reaching.' Although their final routine came with a few stumbles, she and her teammates pushed through with grace. 'We didn't give up or walk off. We carried on to the very end and I'm extremely proud of that.' Beyond the competition floor, Mackenzie says the trip offered a wealth of learning opportunities. 'I loved meeting other gymnasts and seeing how they train. Watching and learning from them is something we don't often get to do back home.' She also fondly recalls the food and scenery, calling it 'an experience I'll never forget.' A passionate gymnast and top academic performer, Mackenzie is one of two South African recipients of the prestigious Nsouli Scholarship, a global initiative by Inspired Education Group that supports outstanding young students through full scholarships and mentorship. She credits her school and the scholarship with helping her balance her academic and athletic commitments. 'Reddam House has given me the time and support to focus on gymnastics,' she says. 'Everyone's been incredibly encouraging throughout this journey.' Looking ahead, Mackenzie and her team are already preparing for next year's World event. She also plans to speak at her school assembly to share her experience. 'I hope it inspires others to follow their dreams too.' Her advice to fellow young athletes is heartfelt: 'Work hard and chase your dreams because anything is possible, as long as you give your best.'
