Luis Robert Jr. returns to White Sox lineup after missing 2 games because of adductor soreness
Robert was the designated hitter for Sunday's series finale against the crosstown Cubs, batting seventh. The center fielder wasn't part of the team's original lineup.
'The initial evaluation, he came in feeling better but still not in a spot where he could get out there in center field,' manager Will Venable said. 'We wanted to keep him plugged in and give him the opportunity to run around more, and he did. We talked about it, and he really talked his way into the lineup after that. We agreed that maybe center field wasn't the best thing for him but that we could utilize his bat and that he was good to go to DH. We ended up making the change.'
With the rebuilding White Sox in last place in the AL Central, Robert could be on the move ahead of Thursday's trade deadline. After a miserable start to the season, he began the day with a nine-game hitting streak.
'He's going to go out there and compete and play the right way, and if he's not able to do that, we wouldn't have him out there,' Venable said. 'At the same time, I'm probably not going to ask him to steal third base. That's fair. But he's going to be out on a major league field and running around, not to the degree we're used to, but he'll be out there.'
Robert, who turns 28 on Aug. 3, entered with a .206 batting average, 10 homers and 41 RBIs in 84 games.
Robert felt the injury when he stole second in the ninth inning of Wednesday's 11-9 victory at Tampa Bay. The White Sox were off on Thursday, and Robert rested during the first two games of the series against the Cubs.

GIANTS 4, PIRATES 2 PITTSBURGH (AP) — Dominic Smith hit a go-ahead double in the ninth inning, and San Francisco rallied for a win over Pittsburgh. Jung Hoo Lee hit a one-out double down the right-field line off Dennis Santana (3-4). The Yankees (61-54) avoided being swept in Texas for the first time since 2010, and kept the Rangers from moving past them for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. David Bednar goes longer than expected for his 1st Yankees save to end their 5-game skid
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — David Bednar got his first save for the New York Yankees after going a little longer than expected, and ended their five-game losing streak before going home. Bednar got the final five outs, all on strikeouts, in their 3-2 win at Texas on Wednesday. The game-ending one came with two runners on base after manager Aaron Boone had gone to the mound with the intention of pulling the right-hander that New York acquired from Pittsburgh at the trade deadline last Thursday. 'I said, 'I'm going to take you here.' And he gave me a look like, no you're not,' Boone said. 'He absolutely wanted the ball and, you know, felt like his stuff was still there. … What a great, gutsy effort.' Bednar's 18th save overall this season came in his third appearance for the Yankees (61-54), who remained ahead of Texas for the American League's third and final wild-card spot. They have a day off before opening a three-game series against AL West-leading Houston at home on Friday night after Bednar's first two series with New York were on the road. Bednar had two strikeouts to end the eighth and two more to open the ninth before Corey Seager walked on six pitches and Marcus Semien grounded a 3-1 pitch through the right side of the infield for a single. Bednar, already at a season-high 36 pitches and with cleanup hitter Adolis García headed to the plate, initially didn't see his new manager walking toward him. 'I was just kind of getting my mind right to face García,' Bednar said. 'I told (Boone) I wanted him and, you know, he agreed. And I just wanted to bear down and get that last one.' LOS ANGELES (AP) — Son Heung-min has arrived at Los Angeles FC with great excitement and even greater ambitions for the next stage of his groundbreaking soccer career. 'I'm here to win, and I will perform,' Son said at a packed news conference. 'I will definitely show you something exciting … are we calling it football or soccer? I will definitely show some exciting football, and we definitely will have success.' LAFC formally introduced its new forward Wednesday at BMO Stadium, where his likeness already looms over the main entrance gates and on video boards surrounding the stadium. The 33-year-old South Korean superstar is back on the Pacific Rim after a professional career spent in Europe, including the past decade at Tottenham. 'What can I say? Dream come true. LA, what a city,' said Son, who will wear No. 7 in black and gold. Son had suitors from around the globe after he decided to leave Spurs, and he said the decision to join LAFC initially wasn't obvious. He came around to the idea of moving to MLS after conversations with LAFC general manager John Thorrington, who sold Son on the 8-year-old club's ambition to be an international brand and the most successful club in North America. 'If I'm honest, it was not my first choice,' Son said. 'But (from the) first call when I talked to John after the season finished, he just changed my mind. He changed my heart. He changed my brain.
