Celebrity SAS star sobs after revealing Channel 4 series was 'torture'
Former Celebrity SAS contestant Maisie Smith broke down in tears on live television as she recalled her 'torturous' experience on the Channel 4 series.
Maisie, 24, appeared on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins in 2022 – and emerged as one of its four winners, alongside footballer's son Calum Best, TOWIE star Ferne McCann, and Strictly pro AJ Pritchard.
However, her time on the programme was a gruelling experience, as she recalled during an appearance on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch this weekend.
The former EastEnders star was in the studio to promote the stage production of The Talented Mr. Ripley, in which she appears opposite The Crown actor Ed McVey.
As she sat down for a chat with hosts Tim Lovejoy and Simon Rimmer, talk turned to her time on Celebrity SAS.
And, watching footage of herself powering through a desert with a heavy pack on her back, an emotional Maisie broke down in tears.
Quizzed about her time on the programme, Maisie revealed: 'It was worse than you could even imagine. When I watched it back, there's so much more that they didn't even show.
'When we had mic packs, when they'd change the packs, you weren't allowed to talk. It was severe. There was never 'cut, cast can chill for a bit.' It was intense. Brutal.'
Acknowledging that it was also 'the best thing I've ever done,' she described it as being 'harder physically' than mentally – recalling how she'd lugged 20 kilos of sand on her back while running through sweltering desert landscapes.
'For me, the physical aspect was torture,' she continued. 'But mentally I felt like I just couldn't quit.
After watching footage of herself on the show, Maisie broke down in tears.
'I was so young. I was 19,' she sobbed, as Tim and Simon looked on awkwardly. 'It was such a big challenge. I'm proud of myself.'
As the hosts appeared to flounder in the face of Maisie's tears, viewers took to social media to lend their sympathy.
'Simon looked awkward AF!' exclaimed DebbieGForLife.
'Both did! Full on panic!' the original tweeter replied.
'Well, this lass is the nicest person in the world,' commented MadKDog.
'Maisy [sic] is nice,' concurred Rosie12_1994.
Elsewhere on the show, Maisie talked about how she and boyfriend Max George experienced a lucky escape when the holiday home they'd planned to stay in caught fire.
Maisie met the 1975 star during their 2020 stint on Strictly Come Dancing, where they both appeared as competitors.

After being questioned by Tim over what she meant about the holiday destination being 'off-grid,' Maisie clarified: 'It was the South of France, it wasn't really off-grid, it's quite a common holiday destination. More Trending
She added: 'But there was a fire and everything was destroyed. The house we were supposed to be staying in, it was destroyed.'
Following the fire, she and the musician – who she also stars with in a stage production of War of the Worlds – ended up staying at a local AirBnB.

I was completely charmed by the celebrity couple last year when I interviewed them for the first season of the long-awaited UK spin-off of one of Netflix's most popular reality shows. They were endearingly nervous about their debut as a married couple helming a show about finding love, shared playful quips about what to order for lunch and had a quiet confidence that proved their real-life and on-screen chemistry. When I met up with them again this year for Metro to discuss season 2, which launches today, the nerves had evaporated, but all the charm had, happily, stayed. For those not in the know, the premise of the hit reality show is all about proving that lasting love is so much more than skin deep. So, 30 people ready for marriage date each other in 'pods' for a week, getting to know each other from behind a wall without seeing each other, and the lucky couples who make a connection get engaged. By the end of the experiment, after meeting one another in the flesh and spending time together in the outside world, they must decide whether they will say 'I do' at the altar. Throughout the process, our trusty co-hosts jet in and out to guide them through from one stage to the next. As we kick off our chat about their return, the 17 years of marriage between the Big Brother presenter and Busted star shines through when I point out their matching blue clothes. 'Last year, we were quite nervous. This year, we were much more relaxed,' Emma says about returning to the show. They were well aware of the tough task ahead of them when launching the latest spin-off (there are currently eight international versions). 'We really wanted the UK one to be as good as all of the others and I think it surpassed our expectations, because it had everything. 'It had heart, it had a very British sense of humour,' the TV host adds, with hopes that season two meets the high standard season one set for fans. The British power couple, who share three children, have had their ups and downs over the years, but if hosting Love Is Blind has made them 'grateful' for one thing, it is that they met in the early 2000s before online dating took off. 'The one thing I've taken [from hosting the show] – and it's not so much a reflection on our relationship, but a reflection on the world of dating generally – is, I'm really glad I'm not single,' Emma says. 'I wouldn't want to be on dating apps. I know a lot of people on them, and they just moan about them all the time. I think I'd get so frustrated with doing everything on a device.' The idea of meeting organically (a more and more foreign concept for Gen Z) is what attracted them to this show in the first place. 'I think that is a whole world better than trying to navigate [the] beginning of a relationship through a phone, which must be so difficult,' Emma adds. Matt agrees: 'Absolutely, I think messages can get so misconstrued.' When I ask them about their dating app green and red flags, we briefly go on a side tangent about the turn-off factor of posting a photo of yourself holding a fish (it's a whole thing) to a completely baffled Emma. As such, Matt decides a fish picture 'doesn't sound cool' while Emma ponders hers would 'probably be an overly posed picture'. 'I think if it were someone in a pair of shorts and nothing else… I'm getting the ick just thinking about it,' she jokes. So, naturally, I ask if the show had been around when they were single, would they have gone on it – and their answers explained a lot about why they are such a perfect fit. 'I don't know if I could get married after six weeks because I'm a chronic overthinker and I like to know everything,' she admits with a wry smile. Matt, on the other hand, is ready to leap headfirst, joking, 'I could. I'd be like, 'Let's do it.'' He shares: 'I think it'd be really fun to see what that experience is like, talking to someone and doing the experiment. I think it'd be such an exciting thing to do.' Lucky for them, neither has to worry about getting hitched to a near-stranger in six weeks or navigating the treacherous world of Tinder. They'll happily watch on, however. Season one saw plenty of highs and lows, with fan-favourite couple Bobby and Jasmine recently announcing they're expecting their first child. It's clear both Emma and Matt are delighted, with the former recalling that the loved-up pair were 'hook, line and sinker from the beginning', and she could tell they were 'totally smitten' right up to the reunion. Matt adds he's 'so stoked for them'. Of course, the premiere season also included some controversial characters, not least Sam, who was briefly engaged to Nicole (now married to Benaiah), who became the latest 'toxic' reality TV man to spark concerned fan discourse. Viewers can expect different things from the new episodes, Emma teases. 'I think they're a really likeable cast. There's not really any divisive characters, I don't think. Obviously, Sam last year was quite a divisive character. I don't think we have a Sam,' she says. Love Is Blind marks the latest show the pair have jointly tackled in recent years, in addition to their candid therapy docuseries, Change Your Mind, Change Your Life. While working together might be out of the question for some couples, that's not the case for these two. Matt explains: '[I love] everything about [my] job, but then I always have to be away from Emma, away from the family. So the chance to work with her is brilliant. 'I've always been jealous of her job. I've been in a sweaty tour bus with stinky boys. This is way more fun, got a glam squad now, love it.' As for what's next, Emma is clearly enthusiastic about the future of their professional partnership, saying they're ready to do 'eight more seasons' of Love Is Blind. But they have other ideas brewing as well. 'I'd like to do something adventurous. I don't know if it's a travel show – just some kind of adventure. I love shows like Race Across the World. I think that's so much fun, but there's a point to it,' Emma says. More Trending As in sync as ever, Matt agrees. Who knows what's next for this dynamic duo, who are proving themselves to be a formidable force on British reality TV. Ozzy Osbourne 'was having fun' with daughter Kelly in poignant moment at funeral
Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has shared his reflections on iconic Black Sabbath frontman Ozzy Osbourne's funeral. Last month the musician – whose real name was John Osbourne – died aged 76 following a long period of living with Parkinson's and other health problems. His death certificate listed his cause of death as 'acute myocardial infarction' and 'out of hospital cardiac arrest'. Osbourne's funeral was held the following week, with an emotional funeral procession through the streets of Birmingham where his widow, Sharon Osbourne, was seen sobbing alongside their children. In a private service, Osbourne was buried on the grounds of his mansion and Trujillo has now said he believes the late rocker was 'having fun' during the funeral. The Metallica bassist was among the attendees at his late friend's private farewell service earlier this month and he reflected on the extreme weather changes throughout the day – including a sudden gust of wind that swept through as Kelly Osbourne sang for those gathered. Trujillo, who was a longtime member of Osbourne's backing band, told SiriusXM's Trunk Nation: 'It had been raining at the beginning of the service and then as it sort of progressed through the service, the weather would change and different things would happen. It was almost like Ozzy was having fun with her.' Then when Osbourne's Black Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler delivered his eulogy, the sun suddenly came out to shine on those paying their respects. Robert said: 'Geezer broke down in tears. He had a hard time, obviously, speaking. And then he came back up and he delivered an amazing eulogy. 'The sun actually came out, and then it was beautiful from that moment on.' The Enter Sandman hitmaker said there were many 'very magical moments' and a lot of laughter despite the sombre occasion. He said: 'It was a small group of people but it was very, very beautiful. It was very sad, but at the same time, some of the speeches were, as you could imagine, pretty funny. Season 2 of Netflix's 'ghoulish delight' lands 50,000,000 views in just days

The supernatural mystery drama premiered on August 6 with the first four episodes – the rest of the series will be available to stream on September 3. Jenna Ortega reprised her role as the titular character, returning to Nevermore Academy for another year and 'fresh foes and woes' alongside fellow students Enid Sinclair (Emma Myers) and Bianca Barclay (Joy Sunday). 'Wednesday must navigate family, friends and old adversaries, propelling her into another year of delightfully dark and kooky mayhem,' the official synopsis reads. 'Armed with her signature razor-sharp wit and deadpan charm, Wednesday is also plunged into a new bone-chilling supernatural mystery.' Despite a three-year wait, season two has unsurprisingly soared up the charts on the streaming platform. In fact, Variety reports that the first batch of the season has earned more than 50million views so far. According to the outlet, this matches the numbers that season one premiered with in 2022 – but for only half the number of episodes, meaning the figures could get even higher when the rest, which include Lady Gaga, hit our screens. Critics and fans alike have heaped praise on Jenna and her star-studded castmates, including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Fred Armisen, Luis Guzman, Billie Piper and Gaga. It currently commands a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, and has been branded 'spookier than ever'. Variety's Aramide Tinubu praising: 'Full of zing and depth, the season remains just as thrilling as the first.' Lorraine Ali of the LA Times, agreed: 'It's really the performances, casting and artistic flourishes that make Wednesday a ghoulish delight.' Mashable's Belen Edwards penned: 'Ortega remains the cold, dead heart of the series – and I mean that as a compliment in tribute to Wednesday! 'With one deadly glare and a dry putdown in voiceover, Ortega's Wednesday is still a force to be reckoned with.'
