Okay, let's talk about those alleged Avengers: Doomsday leaks

Yahoo02-03-2025
[This article may contain spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday—although, since that movie hasn't even been filmed yet, god only knows, yeah?]
Earlier today, the Marvel news ecosystem flew into a veritable tizzy—possibly even a kerfuffle—over allegations that concept art for next May's Avengers: Doomsday had leaked out onto the internet. Per Comicbook.com, an artist named Mushk Rizvi (whose social media and LinkedIn lists them as a concept artist for Marvel Studios) very briefly posted several images that were alleged to be concept art for the as-yet-unfilmed movie, and while these posts were quickly deleted, it wasn't quick enough for the internet. Now the images are floating around all over the place (we're not going to post them here, but even the semi-lobotomized Google of recent days will bring them up with a simple search), sending the speculation machines into overdrive.
The upshot of all this is that—as might be expected, given that the 2027 Avengers movie is literally named after it—it's looking increasingly possible that this new duology of films, directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, will take major inspiration from 2015 event comic Secret Wars, in which Marvel villain par excellence Victor Von Doom finally managed to conquer reality for good. (I.e., for a couple of months a decade ago, until the status quo reasserted itself.) Among other things, the art shows Doom looming on his throne with Stephen Strange at his side, while the presence of 'Sheriff Strange' was a major part of comic-Doom's rule of 'Battleworld,' the small corner of reality he kludged together to rule over after the various members of the Marvel multiverse managed to blow each other to hell once and for all. Other images seem to also reference memorable bits of Secret Wars, including a medieval village filled with Hulks that seems reminiscent of the comics' concept of 'Greenland.'
Other pictures reference a possible line-up of Young Avengers (including Kate Bishop Kamala Khan, and Billy Maximoff), although, if we're being honest, that particular picture is the one that makes us the most skeptical of this whole art dump, because it's hard to imagine Marvel attempting to reclaim its top position atop the box office heap with a movie that prominently features weirdo X-Men mascot character Doop. There's also a very odd image that shows what would appear to be a re-cast Black Panther, one where Star-Lord and Vision are roommates, and some shots that seem to show Pedro Pascal's Reed Richards on his knees before Doom.
All of this, obviously, needs to be taken with huge, skyscraper-sized grains of salt; even if this concept art is real, it's just that: Concept art, suggesting possible ideas Marvel is exploring for the film, with no commitment to pursuing any of them. It is odd to note, though, that Secret Wars was essentially a massive finale, paying off, after decades, the idea of Doom finally triumphing over the rest of the Marvel universe. Using it in what's expected to be Robert Downey Jr.'s first major film in the role feels very odd, although the Russos have said they expect the film to 'challenge' audiences—and starting off with Doom suddenly in control of reality, and working back from there, would be a pretty hefty challenge for viewers to cope with.

Chris Pratt talks hanging out with Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 'I love him'

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has a fan in Chris Pratt. The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star, 46, spoke with Bill Maher on the "Club Random" podcast about his relationship with the U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. "I've spent a number of occasions hanging with him, just in a strictly family dinner kind of vibe, and I really got along with him well," Pratt said during the episode released on Aug. 18. "I think he's great. I think he's funny. I like him. I love him." Pratt's wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, is a member of the Kennedy family. She is the granddaughter of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, a philanthropist and sibling of Robert F. Kennedy. Pratt also told Maher that politics is a "nasty business," and he has seen "how the person you are can be such a contrast to the person that people are being told that you are." Chris Pratt and Katherine Schwarzenegger welcome their first son together Kennedy, who endorsed Trump's 2024 election bid after dropping his own campaign for president as an independent, has been criticized for his history of promoting false or misleading claims about vaccines. "When you jump on the bandwagon with the most divisive president ever, it makes sense that you're going to be made to look terrible," Pratt said. "So I don't know what to believe. It's not like I sit with Bobby and go, 'So hey, let's talk about this.' We're just playing cards or playing Mafia or having fun or having dinner. I'm not going to pick his brain to find out exactly which of those things are true. I just kind of assume that none of them are, and for the most part, I wish him well." Pratt argued that even critics of the Trump administration should be able to root for its success in some instances. "I'd hate to be so mired in hatred for the president that any success from his administration is something I'd have an allergic reaction to," he said. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. declares 'loyalty' to Trump, rules out a 2028 presidential bid The "Terminal List" actor did not endorse a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, even as several of his Marvel costars rallied around former Vice President Kamala Harris. In an essay for his mother-in-law Maria Shriver's Sunday Paper before the election, Pratt wrote that he was "trying to make sense of the election through the eyes of Americans on both sides." "I've been thinking a lot about where we'll be as a nation on November 6th, how we can attempt to move forward after so much division, and how some of the lessons that sports teach us may be just what all of us need as we chart a course forward," he wrote. Pratt went on to add that after the election, Americans should exercise their "civic duty" to "accept the results and focus instead on showing up for each other." The Punisher and Spider-Man Face Off in New SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY Set Photos — GeekTyrant

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially wrapped filming in Glasgow, Scotland, and a new batch of set photos might be the most interesting yet. Not only do we get more comic-accurate poses from Spidey, but there's also a tense moment that teases a fiery clash between the wall-crawler and Frank Castle himself. Among the final photos, the most attention-grabbing shot shows Spider-Man perched on the hood of The Punisher's Battle Van while Frank Castle, gun drawn, sits behind the wheel. While it's unclear if that's actually Jon Bernthal in the driver's seat or a stand-in, the imagery is straight out of the comics and confirms that these two vigilantes are not going to be allies right away. These Glasgow scenes, doubling for New York City, offer a glimpse of the gritty street-level vibe director Destin Daniel Cretton seems to be aiming for. Spidey's suit looks fantastic, and the photos really show off the practical approach this film is taking. Tom Holland is clearly hyped about returning to the role. Talking about his first day on set, he shared: "I feel good, man. It's day one, my fourth ever day one on Spider-Man. You know, it's funny, putting the suit on, it feels different this time, somehow. It's also the first time we've ever had fans on set for day one, so it's really exciting to share this with them." He added: "Now, we're really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we're starting in Glasgow and we're gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we're putting together. So it's gonna feel like making [2017's] [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again." And he finished with: "It's been such a long time since I've done it, it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together." With The Punisher now part of the story, fans can expect some hard-hitting moral conflict mixed into the classic superhero action. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is being helmed by Shang-Chi director Destin Daniel Cretton, with a script by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Alongside Holland and Bernthal, the cast features Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Michael Mando, and Liza Colón-Zayas. The film is set to hit theaters on July 31, 2026, and while shooting is expected to continue elsewhere in Europe, it's unclear if we'll get more behind-the-scenes looks. Either way, this final glimpse from Glasgow has definitely raised the hype.
