FOX Sports names Notre Dame safety Adon Shuler a breakout candidate for 2025
Notre Dame continues to rack up preseason accolades. As the 2025 college football season nears, FOX Sports ranked its Top 10 breakout candidates, and Fighting Irish defender Adon Shuler made the list. The redshirt sophomore safety was a big part of Notre Dame's stout defense on its journey to the College Football Playoff national championship game. He became a first-year starter in former coordinator Al Golden's defense, and it was a unit that finished 11th in total defense, fourth in scoring defense and fourth in pass defense. Shuler, a former four-star recruit, played 768 snaps—third-most on the team—and recorded 59 tackles with three interceptions, including a Pick-Six against Georgia Tech. The safety will now be a veteran presence in the secondary under new DC Chris Ash, especially with Xavier Watts and Jordan Clark now in the NFL. This is a Fighting Irish secondary that expects to be among the nation's best this fall. Notre Dame makes offer to wide receiver/cornerback Duvay Williams
The Fighting Irish could use Williams' ability to play more than one position Duvay Williams has received an offer from Notre Dame. The cornerback/wide receiver is class of 2027 out of Junipero Sierra in Gardena, Ca. and he stands six-foot-two and weighs 170 pounds. He's been a Polynesian Bowl All-American. He's also a five-star recruit. Notre Dame has been recruiting hard this offseason, with some exciting commitments. A run to the national championship game will do that. And while this is just an offer, not a commitment, the Irish could probably use a player with two-way skills like Williams. He could either bolster the passing game -- which probably does need bolstering -- or be a part of a defense that has been lockdown of late. We'll see what he chooses. Collin Morikawa Explains Why He Split From Caddie Joe Greiner
Collin Morikawa Explains Why He Split From Caddie Joe Greiner originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In October 2023, Collin Morikawa won the Zozo Championship, a tournament co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour and Japan Golf Tour. It marked Morikawa's first win in 27 months. Advertisement That victory turned out to be more of a short respite than a true shift in fortune. In 2024, Morikawa had zero wins in 22 events with a pair of runner-up finishes and eight top 10s. It has been more of the same in 2025 across 13 events with no wins, two runner-up finishes and three top 10s. Perhaps the inability to secure wins pushed Morikawa to seek a change because on Wednesday it was revealed the 28-year-old golfer is splitting with longtime caddie Joe Greiner, just two months after the pair came together. When asked about his decision, Morikawa explained what "didn't feel right." "I think Joe is an amazing caddie," Morikawa said. "We were just a little bit on a different page. That doesn't mean it's right or wrong, but for me it just didn't feel right. I have to explore other options." Advertisement Brian Kirschner of Inside Sports Net noted the two-time major winner has been tinkering with many parts of his game. "Collin has spent the last three years tinkering with his caddy, putter, swing feels and glove on and off. Just truly incredible stuff, and I cannot think that hasn't had an impact on his play," said Kirschner. He has not yet found a long-term replacement. At last week's Travelers Championship, Morikawa finished T42. Since starting the season with two top 10s and four top 20s, he has dealt with a bad streak of underwhelming finishes, including a T54 at the RBC Heritage, a missed cut at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and a T50 at the PGA Championship. Advertisement Morikawa remains one of the best golfers in the world and stands at 17th in the FedEx Cup rankings.
