Saiyaara Actor Rajesh Kumar On Being In Rs 2 Crore Debt: 'I Had No Income'
Last Updated: Actor Rajesh Kumar, known for Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, faced Rs 2 crore debt and near bankruptcy from farming. Actor Rajesh Kumar, best known for his memorable role as Rosesh in Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, recently opened up about one of the most difficult phases of his life. He talked about his staggering Rs 2 crore debt and how a foray into farming left him nearly bankrupt. While Kumar is currently riding high on the massive success of Saiyaara, in which he plays Aneet Padda's father, his journey hasn't always been easy. The film has emerged as one of 2025's biggest box office hits, raking in Rs 284.75 crore in just over two weeks. But just a few years ago, the actor was in a very different place financially. Speaking candidly on the podcast Meri Saheli, the 50-year-old shared, 'The incoming and outgoing flow had gone for a toss. There was no incoming, and I had exhausted all my reserves because of the outgoing. I went under debt of Rs 2 crore. Bankruptcy is a big word, but definitely, I had that feeling with me for a long time. I was not able to generate money for survival." The financial strain began when he attempted to pursue farming, a venture that quickly proved unsustainable. Despite putting in his own savings, the lack of income forced him to rely on his family for support. In another emotional revelation during an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, Kumar recalled the heartbreak of returning from a UK shoot unable to bring anything back for his children. 'I had Rs 2,500 in my bank account when I was in the UK. I travelled back and forth twice during that 24-day shoot, but I couldn't bring back even two chocolates for my kids," he said. Rajesh Kumar's career spans over two decades across television, film, and OTT platforms. First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
