‘India doesn't provoke': Shahid Kapoor lauds Operation Sindoor with a powerful message only to change it later
In the early hours of May 7, Indian Armed Forces carried out Operation Sindoor — targeted strikes on nine terror hideouts, four in Pakistan and five in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). This was in response to the heinous terror attack which took place in South Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22. Around 26 innocent men were shot to death after being asked their religion. Soon after the report surfaced on news channels and the internet, many Indian celebrities lauded the Armed Forces. Kangana Ranaut wrote, 'Jo hamaari rakhsha karte hain, ishwar unki rakhsha kare. Wishing our forces safety and success #operationsindoor,' whereas Akshay Kumar shared, 'Jai Hind 🇮🇳 Jai Mahakaal 🚩.'
Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor was also in the list of celebrities who reacted to Operation Sindoor on social media. His message, along with a picture of a fighter jet, was impactful and powerful. However, Shahid later changed the caption and even turned off the comments under his post, leaving the internet puzzled. Earlier, the caption of his post read, 'India doesn't provoke. But India never forgets. #operationsindoor.' Now, the post simply says, '🇮🇳 #operationsindoor.' The comment section is not visible as it has been deactivated, which is why it's not clear if trolling was the reason that forced Shahid to take this decision.
Last month, after the Pahalgam terror attack, Shahid had tweeted, 'Innocent lives lost in Pahalgam. Nothing but pain comes out of such cowardly acts of terrorism. This is not what anyone's god would ever accept. Jo jo karam karega tu use hi hoga bharna. Praying for the families dealing with the immeasurable loss. 🙏🏼.'
On the work front, Shahid was last seen in the action thriller film Deva alongside Pooja Hegde. Up next, Shahid is all set to reunite with his Haider (2014) director Vishal Bhardwaj for Arjun Ustara, which is also an action thriller.

Kattaikkuttu Sangam opens doors for Diploma in Tamil theatre
: In the quiet village of Punjarasanthangal in Kancheepuram district, the Kattaikkuttu Sangam has been keeping the flame of Tamil heritage theatre alive for decades. Best known for its Kalai Thiru Vizhaa, where theatre troupes across the country perform alongside its own Kattaikkuttu team, the Sangam is turning a new chapter by introducing its first ever Diploma in Kattaikkuttu. The founders, P. Rajagopal and Hanne M. de Bruin, who have been running Kattaikkuttu Sangam since the '90s, say this has been a long time coming. 'There is no official institution where you can train as a Koothu actor in Tamil Nadu, and when it comes to rural women performers, the odds are stacked against them because of societal and family pressures. But women need to find a place to train and a voice on stage,' says Ms. Hanne, adding that making Tamil theatre accessible was the need of the hour. The diploma course begins on October 2, 2025, and includes ten months of immersive theatre training. Students will end the course with a presentation, two all-night performances, and one shorter play, each a chance to put their skills to the test. Since the theatre form hopes to reach the hands of the younger generation, the doors are open to anyone 18 years of age, and above. While prior theatre experience is a feather in the cap, it is not mandatory. 'There will be seven hours of immersive workshops every day,' says Mr. Rajagopal, who will also be one of the six teachers at their centre — Kuttu Kalai Koodam. 'We will cover everything from playing the harmonium to the many moving parts of Kattaikkuttu. It is not easy to pigeonhole this Tamil heritage theatre form; there is a lot of instrumental music, singing, storytelling of Indian epics, costuming and intense ensemble work,' he says. The founders say this form is at risk and needs support. 'Most parents want their children away from traditional arts such as Koothu because of the stigma and fear that it leads to financial concerns and little respect,' Ms. Hanne says. 'We have knocked on the doors of government bodies for funding and support, but it has not been fruitful so far,' she adds. Take Bharathi A., a 23-year-old artiste from K. Velur. Having grown up in the gurukulam at Kattaikkuttu Sangam, she has seen the highs and lows first-hand. 'Many women I trained with stopped performing due to familial obligations. But for me, this path has opened several doors — I have travelled, performed, and even received the Inlaks Theatre Award 2025 and other grants. This diploma course is going to make Tamil theatre a lot feasible.'

Legendary filmmaker Mani Ratnam has thrown his weight behind calls for improved work-life balance in the Indian film industry, specifically endorsing actress Deepika Padukone's reported demand for an eight-hour work shift. Speaking to NDTV during an interview about his film Thug Life, starring Kamal Haasan, Ratnam addressed the challenges faced by working young mothers. "It's fair if she's a young mother and needs to take care of her child, and she chooses something that will allow her to do so without any hindrance," he said emphatically. Ratnam also praised Deepika's assertiveness, "I think it's nice when women ask for what they want and get what they want. It's a very healthy sign." Ratnam's comments come days after director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, in what was seen as a jab at Deepika Padukone, accused her of being 'unprofessional'. Industry insiders said that Deepika Padukone, who was to work with Vanga on his upcoming film Spirit, had asked for eight-hour shifts so that she could spend time with her daughter, Dua. Reports mentioned that Deepika's insistence on eight-hour workdays led to Sandeep Reddy Vanga replacing her with Triptii Dimri, who he has worked with in his previous film, Animal. Padukone, a new mother, has been vocal about prioritising her family. When asked if the industry should actively accommodate such requests, Mani Ratnam responded affirmatively, "I think so." The filmmaker went on to offer a pragmatic solution, "If it doesn't fit into your film, move on. But they should be respected for what they are asking. They are making a very fair demand, which is absolutely necessary, so we should acknowledge it and see how to live with it."
